  3. When the Swingin’ Utters released Here, Under Protest last April after an 8 year wait, we were stoked. Then, they started touring again and we dreamed, oh but a little, that they would keep going. Lo and behold, they just finished recording another new full length record, due out early next year! While that isn’t quite ready, a brand new two song 7” is! The Librarians Are Hiding Something will be out on November 6th, and what’s particularly cool about this single is that the A-side is a nice precursor to what can be expected from the full length. It’s the first appearance of new bassist Miles Peck on an Utters record AND marks Jack Dalrymple’s debut as a songwriter for the band, as he and vocalist Johnny Bonnel co-wrote Librarians. We really should be calling this a Double A-side record, as the flipside, Rude Little Rooms, is a classic Darius Koski composition, but only available on this single, while a new mix of The Librarians Are Hiding Something will show up on the upcoming full length. Additionally, this is a limited edition pressing. Stay focused folks, the operative word is “limited edition”. We are not pressing a lot of these. Keep your eyes peeled for our pre-order, we’ll be announcing it soon. Cool stuff. I really enjoyed the last lp. That + Jack make this a definite buy.

That's awesome. I don't listen to this band but those sound like they are pretty hard to come by. I picked up the Black Dahlia Murder Unhallowed and Deflorate a few weeks ago. They were both on my list although I know they aren't super hard to find.

  13. I think if there were a way to merge what Vinyl Junkie has been (Huge obscure catalog, used items) and what IVWT was (great pricing and customer service) then it could be a successful thing for everybody.

  14. 1. Just ask them. If you are a legit label, and are ordering multiple copies of things, many labels will give you wholesale prices. Unfortunately, over the last few years the scene has changed and lots of small startup labels already have "exclusive distribution" and stuff (which in my opinion is a pile of horseshit), which makes it hard for a small distro to deal directly with the label. Alternatively you can can get the records wholesale through distributors. For small releases there are places like ebullition, ILD, no idea, deathwish. For more major label releases there are a slew of places like cobraside, redeye, super D. 2. With labels it will usualy depend. You will need to order multiple copies of several items (no one is gonna give you wholesale price if you order one copy of 3 records. then you are just a consumer looking for a deal). Some places have limits, like at least 3 copies of each record, or 100$ minimum, etc. With larger distribution places, they require you to set up an account with them and show you are a legit place, and some smaller/diy ones then have no minimum, and some of the major label ones may require you to buy $1000 a month or more. 3. It doesnt. Generally limited/sought after stuff screws over a distro/store. Granted, the whole purpose of a record label is to sell records, and if they can do so without outside help, then i guess they are serving their purpose. And thats why its hard. No label wants to wholesale their LP for 7 bucks each, when they can sell all of them in presale for 12 bucks. Some places make deals. They are friends with a guy who runs this label, who is nice and wholesales them a limited color. or they are big enough where they can afford to go in on a pressing and have their own limited color. When i first started my distro labels always sent a few limited copies in with, cause they liked the idea of kids out there being surprised and finding limited editions in different places. Towards the end of the distro i was getting limited editions maybe 5% of the time, if that. Part of that is internet culture and other places ruining it. other distros got limited stuff and immediately ebayed it for big money instead of passing it on to a buyer. in other instances its that now a lot more labels are ran as a "business" to make money, and not as a diy labor of love so the label holds on to everything that can get them the max return. You will probably miss out on most all limited edition stuff until you grow bigger, and can get in on releases earlier, and show you are an honest distro and start to make some long lasting relationships with the labels you work with.

  19. neither IVWT, or vinyl junkie are closing because no one bought records, and they went out of business. Both closed because of a change in life direction with the owners. Vinyl Junkie was doing better than ever, and making more than ever when the decision was made to close up shop. I dont know the books for IVWT, but from what Brian has said, its not cause no one bought his records, its for other reasons. dont let it scare you that places are closing when its by choice, and not by necessity.

  23. There are a whole bunch of programs out there, Couch to 10k being a pretty popular one right now. I'll skip the content of those since you can easily find and adapt them to suit your needs. Here are a few things I found to be true that aren't covered in a logistical plan. I've always been fairly active but this year my wife wanted to train for a leg in the marathon. At lot of this is derived from that process. The one fitness related thing I'll say is consider mixing in some moderate interval training, or really hilly days, to help set some context if your not super active. I think a lot of first time runners don't have a lot of context for when they are pushing to hard or not enough. Some intervals gives you that context and allows you to better understand the effort your putting in and how long that particular effort can be sustained. If that makes sense. Plus they help lower your recovery time. 1. Get a pair of good shoes. Have someone help you find the right shoes for your feet. 2. Don't do distance every time. Make the weekend, or a time that works for you, the time to gauge progress. Mix in shorter runs during the week, at a quicker pace if you can. 3. Time those shorter runs, over a long period progress can be hard to gauge. I remember how proud she was when a three mile run felt really hard one day, but it turned out we ran it three minutes faster than normal. Didn't feel like she was getting better often, but clearly she was. 4. Find a friend. It'll be windy, 55 degrees and a light drizzle in Chicago. You won't want to go. Having a partner makes it much easier to motivate. 5. It's ok to walk. Some days are going to be easy, some are going to be really hard. There won't be a lot of rhyme or reason to it. You'll crush five miles and struggle on 3. The mental battle is way harder than the psychical for a lot of people. Do what you can, keep at it, and don't worry if you don't have it some days. Stay positive. 6. Eat enough. I think people get tempted to under eat and over work to double your weight loss effort. If you feel gassed on a lot of runs you probably ain't eating enough. 7. Learn to breath. Specially deeper breathing. Don't focus too much on syncing your footfalls at the start, just get your breathing right. It'll all work out. If you are breathing really ragged you going too hard for now. Slow down, you'll get there eventually. http://www.marathonguide.com/training/coachmindy/everybreath.cfm 8. The first mile always sucks for me. Even if your doing five consistently. You'll want to stop, just keep going. Lastly, if your running a larger, organized race don't get too nervous before hand. You'll be surprised how much the race atmosphere boosts you. Good luck buddy. My wife went from not being able to run a mile to knocking out 6'ers pretty easily but it took a while. Pretty much a year. But totally can be done. EDIT: We originally had the same plan but felt some weeks we could add more distance so we did. Once you hit the 3 or 4 mile mark it becomes easier. If you can do 4 you can do 5 and so on. Generally speaking, a 1/2 mile a week increase was achievable for us.

  30. Why do people continuously question a record being repressed as if people are out to steal their money? This record isn't going to be out of print anytime in the next 5 years, and it makes a lot more sense for a small label like Pure Noise to press it in multiple 1k-2k quantities than to press 5k and store them for the next 3 years. It seems obvious to me, but records aren't pressed to suit collecting needs, they are pressed to keep a band alive and to provide people with music they want to buy and listen to, and until people don't want to listen to this record any more, it's going to be continued to be sold.
