This season blew ass. In the whole first 3 seasons, I can only think of 2 memorably weak episodes: Abed-as-Jesus and Model UN. But I would rank those 2 over any of season 4's episodes. Last week's origin story episode was the biggest wank fest ever, even for a show that's always been up its own ass a little bit. The entire episode seemed to be constructed to jerk off the segment of the Community fanbase that edits their own shipper videos set to Snow Patrol songs and makes [shudder] fan art. "Yeah, congratulations on remembering details alluded to in season one, look we actually filmed them for you so it's easier to make gif sequences for your Tumblr". And then they casually create massive continuity issues like Troy breaking his leg instead of his shoulders, and a dollar theater showing Phantom Menace in 2008. Nothing was improved by making these old stories come to life and stringing together some fabricated connections, they would have been better off left to the imagination. It's fitting that there's a Phantom Menace storyline, because I got the exact same feeling watching that episode as I did watching the Star Wars prequels. Don't even get me started on the finale, where they simultaneously beat the Darkest Timeline shtick to death and dig up the cold body of paintball only to hump its corpse a bit. It's a perfect encapsulation of just how badly the new writing staff doesn't get why people like the show. They've tried so hard to reference every popular thing from past seasons (Darkest Timeline! An Inspector Spacetime convention! The Dean just cross-dresses all the time now! Bring back the German foosball players!) but missed the fact that the show was great because (at least at the beginning) it was about exploring interpersonal relationships and the human condition, through 7 super fucked-up characters, the most normal of which is a socially underdeveloped pop culture obsessive with Aspergers. Of course, Chevy Chase's unwillingness to cooperate and eventual quitting hasn't helped, and the resulting lazy and awkward write-outs and write-arounds have been a massive distraction this year. All I know is that I'm done. This show doesn't interest me anymore, the characters have been sucked dry and I'm completely uninterested in the direction the show is going. Season 5 might be better, it might be worse, but the magic of the earlier seasons is gone and it's just another sitcom.

So the band posted this image on their blog today. They've been very sneaky about it - no updates or anything - but they included this with the image: "Separation came out 2 years ago today. LP2 is finished. We'll see you in the fall". This is definitely my most anticipated for the year as Separaton for me was easily the best of 2011 and still gets a play a least once a week. From the photo it looks as though Will Yip recorded the album, which given his involvement with the Braid split makes sense. The different sounds he has got so far for Floral Green, Magnolia and Jar (to name a few) have been superb and I'm keen to see what direction both the music and production have gone in for this album. Thread will be updated with more info when available.

I have a lot of respect for Turnover because they turned down playing Warped Tour this summer in order to tour with Koji and the other bands. Seems like they're in it for the right reasons.

I'm ok without the boobies thread, to be honest. It seems as though the majority of the folks on the board would rather be without it and I certainly don't want alienate any women or anyone that may find the subject matter objectionable. The Internet tubes are clogged up with easily accessible naked ladies, so I don't see it as a HUGE loss to the board/community. Although I enjoyed the "you got your chocolate in my peanut butter" excellence of boobs + records, if its not for the majority of VC, I'd rather it goes the way of so many Moonbeams threads and dies the undignified death it deserves.

Went to a couple record stores today. The first was a store that's moving in a few weeks so they're trying to get rid of as much stuff as they can so they don't have to move it. This is one of those stores that is just stacked with boxes full of albums (mostly older stuff). They had just put out a bunch of boxes from storage that they hadn't looked through yet. I was lucky enough to stumble upon a box filled with Beatles albums. Here's my haul from the first store. They were all $1 each. With a little bit of cleaning, they'll sound good. The Ella Fitzgerald album was released in 1949, which makes it the oldest record in my collection. The Superman record was an interesting find. It'll be a fun listen once I get my new turntable in the mail. Picked these up at the second store Spiritualized - Ladies and Gentlemen, We Are Floating in Space 2xLP used for $15 Craig Finn - Honolulu Blues 7" new for $.99 Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band - Plastic Factory 7" new for $.99 All in all, a pretty good day

We've seen situations like this on dateline. A dum dum approaches a dude, posing as a cop, and asks them to kill their significant other. The only difference between this and what I've seen on dateline is that some people like this guy's music, and we don't get to see the hilarious part where the cameras come out and tell him that he asked a fucking COP to kill his wife. Anybody ever see the one where the wife approaches the murderer for hire (a cop) to kill her husband? She gets home from work the day that she thinks the deed is going to be done, and there are police and an ambulance at her house. They tell her that her husband has been murdered by somebody and that they want to bring her to the station to ask her a few questions about who would want to do is to him, Then they have the murderer for hire (the cop) come in the room, and she knows she's busted. THEN they have her not-deceased husband come in the room. Great TV, you guys.
