  2. I know the guy is an asshole, but I think more impact would be made if he dies and fades into obscurity with only his family caring that he's dead. The more attention you give to these kinds of people, the more they seek. And of course the dictum is true: hate begets hate.

  4. This album is what, 15 years old or something? I think you can wait a few extra days for it.

Damn, Cowboys just put the NFC East on notice. Brandon Weeden signed to a 2-year deal.

  7. I really can't get much more out of this band than The Shape of Punk to Come, Songs to Fan the Flames of Discontent, and the song Circle Pit. I might add the Everlasting EP to that as well. The rest either tends to feel not very well done or is so far from the style I like. Definitely don't just blindly purchase without checking out the material first. It's all pretty different than The Shape of Punk to Come.

  8. They've been doing that more and more with "RSD First" releases. Released as you said, in about 500 on an exclusive to RSD variant before the widespread, usually standard black release a few months down the road. A good example would be At the Drive-In from last year or the Incubus reissues from a few years back. I'm torn about the One Direction release. The record snob in me wants to scoff, but there's also the side of me that is happy a new generation/demographic will be introduced to the magic of independent record shops. We all started somewhere, hell I know every word to the first Backstreet Boys album. But its hard to discover all the goodness of non-top 40 music when you're only exposed to the marketing of iTunes and commercial music mega retailers. There's just something about walking into a good record store that everyone should experience. I can't count the amount of times where I have lived out the "Beta Band scene" from High Fidelity- where something was playing on the speakers in the store and I asked what it was and then immediately bought the record. For every hundred teeny-boppers that come out on RSD just to have the latest One Direction single to frame on their wall, there will be a few that fall in love with record stores and I think I am ok with that. Plus it will be hilarious to watch the faces of these kids looking for a One Direction record who show up when the store opens at 10 and see the line wrapped around the block.

  9. Yeah, why does it matter that they are sealed? Oh, right - because for some arbitrary reason that increases their resale value on eBay.

  20. Paypal is a great and curious beast. I once paid for a copy of Dead to Me - Cuban Ballerina and immediately got an alert that my money was being held until I called Paypal to clarify my purchase. Apparently because the notes said "Cuban," I had to state what the item was because the US is not allowed to deal with items from Cuba. The guy told me that even purchases involving movies with Cuba Gooding Jr. get flagged if his name is in the description. Good times.

  21. So if every other webstore you found were sold out... You think someone here has 3(!) extra copies just in hand to get to you? Most folks here are going to have the same access to the same distros that you do. If they're sold out for you, they're sold out for us.

  23. i work downtown and all the bars opened at 7am for st. patricks day. throngs of people my age dressed in green already out drinking. didn't do a good job of hiding my disgust. DO YOU PEOPLE NOT HAVE JOBS?! GO TO YOUR JOB. pro tip: if you're out drinking before 9am, regardless of what day it is, i think you should probably stop and reevaluate your life.

  24. Sad but true on the latter. I am convinced that the issue here is with Columbia/Sony. Let's think about it: SSTB had a decent number pressed a few years back (due for a repress) and both Afterman records are readily available but yet IKSSE:3 only saw one run upon release. Every Coheed record released on Columbia has either never been put to wax or is harder to find by the day. But what about IKSSE:3? Well, though it was originally put on via Equal Vision the record was "upstreamed" (aka bought out) by Sony once the band started making it big. I'm sure if Sony didn't have their grubby fingers on that album we would have seen a repress ages ago..definitely by the time the 10 year anniversary hit. So long story short: apparently Sony is either allergic to money (which I doubt) or they're just oblivious to the demand of both IKSSE:3 and Good Apollo Vol. I on vinyl. No wonder the music industry is falling apart.

  26. lol Hey, I thought about it, and I can only credit this typo to being part of the Snoop Doggy Dogg/Dr. Dre era of the early 90's. Snoopy's big song was Who Am I (What's My Name?). Idk what the hell else would've made my subconscience write that. lol What's my age, what's my name...none of these guys know who they are.

  31. I was serious, and I do live in NOVA. I think it is something most people can do, and if you changed one with a headshell, you should be able to do this, just buy taking a title more care with the angles that you use when holding things. The cart itself is not fragile, so you can firmly hold it from the sides with the nuts (huh-huh. Yeah!) in place and drop the screw (uhhhh huh huh) in place and tighten it. But if you still don't feel comfortable, or want some assistance, feel free to send me a PM.

  35. We are excited to announce that Heavens To Betsy's classic album Calculated has been repressed on vinyl for Record Store Day! One of the classic KRS bands, Heavens To Betsy was Corin Tucker (later of KRS bands Sleater-Kinney, Cadallaca, and The Corin Tucker Band) on guitar and vocals and Tracy Sawyer (later of KRS band The Lies) on drums, bass, and vocals. Originally released on March 21st, 1994, Calculated has been out of print on vinyl for over 10 years and we look forward to a new generation of fans putting this record on their turntables this Record Store Day, April 19th. Click here for a list of stores participating in Record Store Day.

  37. I feel like Demi Lovato was a poor choice in the artist they could have had perform another version, she just couldn't hit the right notes at all. I was shocked that they even allowed that song to be released. My girlfriend and I both felt it was unbearable compared to the film version by Idina Menzel. Just my opinion.

  40. I like my Emotiva XDA-2 ($270) or as pointed out above, you can get the Marantz PM6005 ($700). Most of the recommended 'entry level' options fall in to the $300ish range (Cambridge Audio Dacmagic ($300), Schiit Bifrost ($360 and up). Price difference being basically a wash, I tend to prefer having a separate component, but others may prefer the integrated option. If you're looking for a cheap cheap cheap solution, I just bought a FIIO D3 ($30) to use in a bedroom system (PM5004 + Apple TV) and it works well enough that I will likely keep it around until I upgrade my living room DAC at some point and move the XDA-2 to the bedroom. I guess it is also worth mentioning that the PM6004 is mostly hard to beat because of its clearance price. I'm sure there are other integrated amps with DACs to consider in the $700 range.
