  3. I find a flat surface parallel to the Earth, and then I look for a spot with another surface running perpendicular to it. I then place the top of the record against the perpendicular surface with the bottom against the parallel surface. So that the line formed running from the top of the sleeve to the bottom of the sleeve form an angle of approximately 25 degrees to the parallel surface. I lean it...on a shelf...up against a wall.

Run, Forever - Close To The Sun You ask if I wanna' go out but I stay home and soon I know I'll grow to hate this house Because when I said I'd be better by myself what I meant was help I remember the sound of waking up by water and how that summer felt like a movie Before the first time I saw my friends cry Now I quit coming by The closer I got to the sun the further I withdrew from everyone

    Fuck you, Judy

Haha, nah, just don't need the credit card companies tracking my moves. Was kind of joking; I mean, the government definitely knows I have a gun because I have my concealed handgun license, which I had to go through the state for. Also because when I bought it they went through a background check (which doesn't necessarily mean you went through with purchasing the gun and supposedly only stays on file with the gun shop), but the credit card companies don't need to know what I spend my money on. I'm sick of targeted advertising and people sharing information I don't necessarily want out there with everyone, which is what the cc companies do.

  35. I posted about this in the main vinyl section too, but it's relevant to this thread. Temporary residence just put up about 100 copies of the 9xLP box set of William Basinksi 's The Disintegration loops with with external box damage for 100 off original price, so $125+ shipping. It's a great deal and probably the last time you'll ever see a shop selling these. Just a heads up!

  37. Same way everyone who's ever done a cover song has been legally allowed to sell it. A mechanical license (the type of license needed to legally manufacture/distribute a recording of someone's composition) may be granted to anyone who pays a fee of 9.1 cents per song per copy manufactured and sold. This is generally done through a rights management firm like Harry Fox Agency, who have a very streamlined process for the whole thing. This is a compulsory license, meaning the composer cannot refuse to grant it and doesn't even have to be notified that it's happening. In this case: Flaming Lips license the 13 compositions on Sgt. Pepper's at a cost of $1.183 per album, times however many copies they are making, let's say 5000 (I don't know how digital licensing works, but let's pretend it's physical-only) for a total cost of $5915. This money goes into the Lennon/McCartney fund (minus 1/13 to George's estate for "Within You Without You") and Paul & Yoko don't ever have to know about it unless they choose to investigate why there's a tiny boost in their boat funds that quarter, since that payout includes every sale of every Lennon/McCartney composition, including the original recordings by The Beatles.

  42. I went through about 5 copies of WYWH on vinyl... All "mint" from the looks of them... All from the 70s... All noisy as hell in the quiet sections. (Which is about half the album.) Eventually I bought a used copy of the new reissue. Super quiet, sounds fantastic. And this "overpriced bullshit" cost me exactly the same used as buying an OP, with twice the listening enjoyment. Just because millions of people bought PF albums in the 70s doesn't mean that millions of people kept them in mint condition, clean and quiet and scratch-free, just to resell them in 2014. For that reason alone the reissues fill a valuable hole in the market and negate your entire argument.
