  3. I was going to put this in the poetry thread, but I thought that it wouldn’t hurt to have a separate thread. I teach 3rd grade in a high poverty urban area. In my classroom I teach the kids the craft of poetry, even though it is not a part of our curriculum. I feel it’s an important avenue for them to express their views and to realize how powerful they can be with their words. This allows even the lowest achieving students to realize success because the focus is on expression rather than mechanics or correct grammar. One of the experiments I started doing was to play them music by Explosions In The Sky while they were writing. I’d give them the title and let them use the music to influence their writing. Through the years I have collected some good ones and decided to make an anthology of these titles to give to the band. This is the email I got from them: Hey there, This is Chris, the drummer from Explosions in the Sky. Sorry it's taken so long to send you a message, but we just got back from tour recently and there are always a million things to catch up on once we're home. Anyway, I just wanted to thank for giving us the copy of The Season of the Waterfall. We all read the poems and were deeply moved. Not even sure what to say other than that i'm glad that there are people like you helping out and doing things like this. Reading them was not easy. They were beautiful but also incredibly heartbreaking. If there is some way for us to help out, please let me know. Even if its something dumb like sending you a bunch of CDs or something to give to your class. I'm not really sure 3rd and 4th graders would have any interest in meandering, long winded instrumental rock music, but I can't really think of anything else. A lot of people have given us stuff over the years but nothing has compared to this collection of poems. Not even close. Thank you. Sincerely, Chris explosions in the sky Here are some of the poems. Please keep in mind that I teach them the craft, give them the tools, but this is 100% their writing. I wish I could take credit for what they write, even sometimes steal some of the lines for my own lyrics. I’ve had mothers and fathers in tears as they read their child’s poems. It amazes me every time I read a new one. These are all using titles from EITS songs. The Birth and Death of the Day Death is in the sky and Light is in the ground. When people say be gone death death stays. It never went and now it disappeared like fallen warriors. Light has come back to the sky. -Jorge Our Last Days As Children We used to go to the park together then it was time to grow up. You are a fashion designer and I am a doctor. We get off work at 3:00 and see each other at the buffet and eat and talk about when we were little and remember times like when we ate chocolate mint ice cream on Saturdays, when we played with each other, when we were friends forever when we played Bratz and you used to be Sasha and I would be Cloe, when we went to each other’s houses and watched Disney movies, When we used to talk about ourselves and what colors we liked. You liked red and I liked pink. When we played dodgeball and we would be on the same team and we would run or jump so we wouldn’t get out, but we would catch the ball and get other people out, when we painted each other’s nails, when we colored each other’s drawings. when we played soccer and we would win, during recess we would play four square and you would be in the A square and I would be in B. After we talk we start to cry. I miss those things. -Lilibeth The Only Moment We Were Alone I feel dead dead like nothing People just pass by like Nothing Ghosts being nothing Laying down being a jerk Biting ghosts one at a time Water from God biting water forever. -Juan

  4. So unless Copeland owns their own music (which is plausible), it appears that EMI is willing to license out old Tooth & Nail titles under certain circumstances. Does SRC care to comment? Also LOLOL @ being worried about "boring" color options.

Peregrine is remastered specifically for vinyl finally. Maria, who did the art for Casket Girls and Marshmallow Ghosts, did embroidery based on the original art. It looks really fucking pretty.

  19. Being in the same scene as these guys, I can honestly say I've never seen a scarier and more terrifying performance. I seen them at their first US Show ever when they entered Machine Shop. ive been hooked ever since. These guys are the real deal and have brought it to a new level. I've been a fan since the first EP and I was let down with the lack of technicality and the amount of chugs, but hey you gotta do something to sell records. They've sold over 10,000 copies in the US alone, and they are from Australia. Numbers dont lie, These guys are making a huge impact so get used to them being around. And I'm stoked to get this variant to add to my collection.

    Shit on bands here

I'm glad others have said it, but all that indie pop bullshit (basically, most of what plays on Sirius XM's Alt Nation and seeps onto mainstream stations: Imagine Dragons, Young the Giant, etc) going on right now. As said, it's just kind of forced and uninteresting as all hell. Just some kind of chorus and not much else, structurally.

Some people prefer first presses, or rarer presses of albums, variant collect, or sometimes would rather 180gram black because black is supposed to sound better than colored vinyl, etc. etc. so I thought I'd give someone on the boards an opportunity to get this album rather than ebay - but regardless, who are you? (don't really answer that cause I don't actually give a shit)

  24. In my opinion Suns and Lovers sounds more post punk and Downward feels like the shoegaze sound they went for and Guilty feels the same except heavier. All really great albums though.

  33. Here's the update! https://www.facebook.com/tinyengines/posts/10152552311979726?utm_content=buffer088d9&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer Basically what happened is that Hotelier, Dikembe and Somos re-presses were late, Mediumship was early and Frontier(s) was right on time. Now there's a giant log jam of mail order at Tiny Engines HQ. We'll get through it as quickly as possible though! If you have something that needs to be changed or you ordered any of the previously mentioned records separately and want to combine those orders, let us know. And the moral to this story? Manufacturing turnaround times are virtually impossible to predict these days. Blame it on the increasing demand for vinyl (good) caused by bullshit that should never be pressed on wax in the first place (bad). Jurassic Park Soundtrack ... I'm looking at you.

  34. It's alright and was more for nostalgia and putting on when I have people over. Sound quality isn't anything special but the splatter itself is really rad. All and all this should have been a $15 dollar record. It doesn't warrant a $26 dollar price tag. It's extremely obvious at this point that sound quality is not paid attention to when these hot topic exclusives are put out. I'd rather SRC do these nostalgia records for $29.99 and have them done correctly.

  46. tooth and nail can no longer release vinyl of old releases. they don't own them. capitol can, but let's be honest, probably won't. tooth & nail is relaunching as an independent label and can release whatever new records they want. not that i really care, but why would this be a good thing for old releases? it probably really sucks for all the artists too... having their old music sold to a major that'll probably just sit on it or hold it for ransom. also, this is the reason broken circles wasn't able to press records he already had in the works. so more vinyl... no.
