  1. All the bands I thought were terrible in the mid-late 90s and early 2000s.

Isn't this the same record that annefrankzappa said wasn't actually the OST and just remixed bullshit? Edit: Yeah after rereading the email it sounds awful. But this is obviously just my opinion.

  3. Dear and the Headlights also are a lot more rare/sought after than I expected. A member on here sold them to me if I mailed him cookies and to this day, it is the best trade that has ever gone down.

  11. LP mailers can get kind of expensive and I'm cheap as hell and have to much time on my hands. So as I'm looking at the entire shelf full of free boxes from the usps I started thinking to myself that I just may be able to cut them up and make my own lp mailers. After a few tries with different shaped boxes I figured out how to make pretty decent ones easily. After making a few it only takes me about 3 or 4 minutes to make one. Heres a tutorial for anyone who is as cheap as me. If anyone has the measurements for a 7" mailer I would appreciate it too, I didn't have one so I couldn't make one. 7" mailers would come out even better since they require less cardboard. What you need: There are two different boxes from the usps you should get, a big more thin one and a large thick cardboard one. You can pick them up at your post office or order them here for free http://shop.usps.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductCategoryDisplay?beginIndex=18&pageSize=6&langId=-1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10152&categoryId=13354 The two boxes you will want are: 12x12x8 and the other one is 12.5 x 15.5 x 3. They are the first and third boxes on the website. You'll also need an exacto knife or box cutter, tape, sharpie and a straight edge. Alright step one is deconstructing your two boxes. On the inside there is an overlap in the cardboard. These boxes use really shitty glue so just pull them apart with ease so the box is completely flat Next up we are going to lay one of your lp mailers on the flat usps box and trace it. If you don't have a lp mailer to trace the picture below shows the measurements and you can just use a ruler to get what you need. You can place your measurements just right so one of the folds is already on a fold in the usps box. Alright time to cut out your template. I just used my original lp mailer as a straight edge to make sure my cuts were straight. You can use a ruler or something else for this too. Now you want to use your guide box to mark were the folds will be on the cardboard. If you don't have a guide box the measurements are just .75" away from each other or smaller depending on how many lps your shipping, you can make it a little bigger too but not by much or the box won't close all the way. Once you have your guides pull out your straight edge again and perforate where the fold will be. This will help the fold be nice and straight plus it will help you fold it without bending the cardboard. I showed the guides I made but I did not put the second guide for each fold because well that was were a cut was so it was already a guide. Ok, now because of the way the box is made on one side there will be a slit in the cardboard. Just take some tape and tape this slit together. Once that’s done fold where you did all your perforating and the box will now be made. Alright, we’re almost done you just have to cut the padding out from the thicker cardboard box now. So Just use your template box or use the measurements 12.5 x 12.5 Now the easy part: go make some trades, put the padding in front and back of the record, seal the box up and write fragile on it. Hopefully some other cheap people will get use out of this. It will probably take you 10 or 15 minutes to make your first box but once you know what you’re doing you will fly through the process. Now that I finally have a 7" mailer I'm throwing in the measurements of that. Just follow the same instructions for the LP mailer just with these measurements instead.

  14. I'd say a lot of the 90s light alternative stuff like Counting Crows and Toad the Wet Sprocket. When I started really collecting I figured I could pick that kind of stuff up pretty cheap. Not so much.

  16. I wonder if the huge cost of some of these records has to do with nostalgia. I know Blink-182 albums aren't considerably more expensive than a lot of stuff posted in this thread, but I wouldn't have imagined that people would be lining up to purchase Take Off Your Pants & Jacket new for $50 13 years later.

  18. I have a few (Ryan Adams-Love Is Hell, Beck - Sea Change, and Weezer - Blue Album) and they all sound amazing. However, I have read that pre-2000's are hit or miss. If you're in the market for one, and it's a fairly expensive LP, make sure to check the VC or forums.stevehoffman.tv for reviews.

  21. I have received more fucked up records in mailers from people who don't know how to pack a record in a mailer properly than I have records being sent in taped up cardboard. Seriously, the old wrap the record in newspaper, slap between two 12.5x12.5 sheets of thick cardboard and tape up is a classic that rarely fails.

  22. Tom Petty - Wildflowers. It was first on my list of records to get. After I got my Pro-Ject all hooked up I went online to purchase it...Little did I know it was out of print and going for over $250 on Ebay. Crushed all my dreams. Being a somewhat popular album I had no forethought to investigate pricing beforehand. Oh well, I'll wait patiently for the reissue....

  23. Let me start by saying that I actually really liked We Were Dead and Good News, but my favourite Modest Mouse "album" is probably Building Nothing Out of Something. I appreciate the range that they showed throughout all of their releases and while some songs on their newest records fell flat, there were still many great songs on WWDBTSES and GNFPWLBN. Anyway, fuck me! After 8 years of waiting, this was a huge disappointment. Here's why: - Pistol is definitely the worst song on the album. Don't try and tell me that "it's experimental" and "different and you don't get it" because fuck that, it's just not good. How does a song like that make it onto an album that's been in the making for 8 years? Ridiculous. - Lampshades on Fire is just boring. Sounds like it should've been a B-side for the We Were Dead... era. - God Is An Indian is pointless. Which is a let down because it's got the best title on the album and had the potential to be another Cowboy Dan-esque epic. - Wicked Campaign is fun but...is it really a Modest Mouse song? Sounds more like a Killers cover band. Where did the synth come from? And why is James Mercer wailing in the background? Also, why are they still rehashing old ideas and riffs (Lampshades, Tortoise, etc.)? And why are there so many songs on this album that they've been playing live for years? It's been EIGHT YEARS. You'd think Isaac and co. would have come up with more new material. There are 15 tracks on this album but only about 10 are actually new. Highlights: - Strangers to Ourselves. A nice introduction. Violins were surprising but they fit very well. - Ansel. Fuck yeah, island riddims! - The Ground Walks. Some good ol' dancing tunes. - Coyotes. Great buildup, nice guitar work and pretty harmonies. Lyrics are nothing special but Isaac's writing has always been most poignant when he's criticizing the human race - and that holds true here. - The Best Room. The outro is my favourite part of the entire album. "Don't you know it's hard feeling tired all the time" Fuck yeah, it is. Where was this emotion during the other 14 tracks? - the artwork is phenomenal

  25. I'm all about sticking it to the man whenever possible, but the reality here is that a proper mailer only costs some pocket change. I sure as shit would prefer that sellers don't try to get all crazy and Macguyver an LP mailer. Half of the people on this board can't use the proper form of "there" let alone understand the structural integrity required to survive a cross-country pummeling of the USPS.

  26. It's so hilarious to see how attitudes of people involved with record collecting have changed over the years. Like only ten years ago it was all about sharing and pooling information about the best and cheapest ways to ship/trade/sell records and the various common scams people were using (gluing stamps, etc). And now, when the costs involved with buying/selling/collecting records are higher than ever, it's all promo codes and lectures about how taking some cardboard from postal service is wrong.

Went to get booze and the dude on stage said, in reference to me, my girlfriend, and some random girl walking by "Oh just gotta wait for Charlie's Angels to walk by here." My girlfriend and I gave him synchronized middle fingers without turning around.

    BARGAIN YOUR RECORDS !

Waves, have you tried checking this album out on Popsike? http://www.popsike.com/php/quicksearch.php?pagenum=1&searchtext=beatles+help+orange&incldescr=&sortord=ddate&thumbs=&currsel= The most recent copy sold (with only one bid) for $76, but the majority of the copies of this are selling fairly recently from 25-50 bucks. The median price on discogs is $51 right now, and the median price on popsike is just $41. I assure you, no one is going to buy a copy of that album for $132. Just because the high end is currently $132, it doesn't make $66 a deal for someone that would be really into this album and looked into prices. Even with your bargaining system, it would be more accurate to look at what's sold and not what's listed currently. People are completely off on their listing prices on Discogs sometimes. For example, right now someone has the August Burns Red- Rescue and Restore boxset listed for $250 on discogs, when it's still up on their merchdirect site for $60. Doesn't mean it's worth that. I do appreciate your enthusiasm for your business, but this is like opening a mini mart in Walmart's home town. You have to have excellent prices or some other unique incentive, or people are just going to head off to Discogs and buy that copy that's 5 dollars less, or add the item to their wantlist and wait until they find one in a better price range. Edit: Read it wrong, that actually is sold out. Sorry guys. Haha.
