Anyone who is on the fence about this who is not going to starve, miss medical bill payments or get anything repossessed by splurging $85 (plus shipping) on this thing should just do it. The material alone is a major feat of conceptual songwriting and even though I'm not in love with every song on the whole set, there are more than enough amazing songs and the presentation of the colored vinyl in relation to the EP's color concept is just awesome. Yes, I know I'm Mr. Black Vinyl but the exception to that, if there could only be one, is when some crazy motherfucker writes 4 song EP's called The Color Spectrum and puts them on 9 corresponding colored vinyl 10" records. This set is classic. When this was first released I really expected it to be over $100 before shipping. The price is pretty fair and if you ever do get into financial trouble and need to sell this thing that you didn't need that bad, you can get at least your money back on the aftermarket provided you don't shit all over the set or let an unruly toddler/cat/puppy have its way with it.

I don't think its a criticism of collectors in general more just a criticism of the attitude that the guy feels he deserves one as a result of his previous collecting habit or that they shouldn't have done it at all to save them from going to non variant collectors. Ultimately doing an under 200 run on a variant for a band this size was bound to ruffle feathers as inevitably people who got lucky may not be "ultra fans" and many non completists who get their hands on this would inevitably wind up flipping it because of the crazy prices the after market is producing. I mean if I got a record that I already own that people were willing to pay 500 bones for free of charge I'd have a hard time justifying not selling it. I feel for those of you who missed out because it is undoubtedly annoying when you have one missing piece from a complete set but ultimately a band you love did something nice here, the idea that your collection being incomplete is an injustice is silly. I'd wager everyone on here has missed out on at least one item and felt the frustration of exorbitant after market profiteering. It goes with the territory of collecting. Being disappointed that a band even made this little special thing just because it disrupts your complete collection is just petty.

Mine just came. It looks beautiful. Standard weight, standard jacket and spine width. BLACK AS FUCK (). If this thing sounds as good as everyone says their copies sound, I'm going to be a pretty happy camper.

Let's face it, Johnny knows he's taking in losses when he does this awesome stuff. They literally gave out copies of After Dark 2 on vinyl and were signing them all night long after an epic LA show. He must make some huge amount of dough from either some crazy fashion deal or the Drive money is still kicking in. Goes to show how awesome he and the label are.

The sound is really the most important part but even if this had been in a hardbound slip case a la the Melon Collie & The Infinite Sadness re-press/master/issue, $80 would still be steep. Proper mastering on 4 LP's shouldn't cost $80. One gatefold jacket over 4LP's should not cost $80. That's insanity. This should have been a $40-$45 release, maximum and as far as I'm concerned, that's pushing it.

I was able to score tons of good crap (Get Up Kids, Mineral, The Violent Femmes, Ryan Adams, etc.) with the 40% off clearance sale, all for $6 each. Remember, if it "looks out of place" on the shelf (old, missing shrink, even if it isn't in their "clearance bin") or ends in the number 9, it is on clearance, whether the store has marked it as such or not.

Watched 13 Cameras tonight and mostly liked it a lot. Has an awesome creepiness to it and a very good final 20-25 minutes. The biggest issue is that material between the main couple is sooooooo boring and cliche and poorly done. Makes it really hard to give any shits about them. I think that's really what kept it from being a great movie. I'd still strongly recommend it even with that major flaw though.

Have you heard the Basement Session of TKOL? Shit's incredible. I do think the studio album is stark, kind of lifeless, and a little cold, but that Basement performance makes up for it for sure. AND they play the Daily Mail, which is like Top 3 Radiohead songs for me.

This makes no sense. Why would you pay the Discogs' fees just to "drive up the market value"?? Then there's the risk of sitting on your new highly valued record for an undetermined amount of time until someone buys it. People like that are idiots.

Awesome write up, can't wait to come to this place when I head up to NYC for vacation.

Because they are the National, they dipped their toe into that sappy arena ballad pool and knew better than to keep going down that road but, for any other band, a song like Vanderlyle or England is the pre-cursor to having a college marching band on stage with you for your encore and the lead singer wearing a band leader costume or like a cape. Thanks to some course correction with Trouble Will Find Me, the songs are fine and just minor blips of concern to some fans and not the glaring beginning of the band's descent into persona self-parody. The slow ballads before and after High Violet are all aces (About Today, I Need My Girl, this new one...I didn't dig Heavenfaced but it's not as bombastic or anthemic so I just let it pass when it plays).

I'll order this soon, pretty excited to have a all the tracks in one place. Gilead Media is doing 2xLP re-issues of Tyrant and Summit too. Also, don't think the Seattle show is All-Ages. Almost 100% certain that venue is always 21+

No one said it was unusual to talk about vinyl here. Variant collecting is a money hole, and you knew what you were getting yourself into when you decided to variant collect for one of the most popular bands on earth. Don't be pissy because they did something really cool for some lucky fans and you weren't one of them. You aren't entitled to shit because you decided to throw a ton of money into a hole.

I entered to get one, but never heard anything or got anything. I just assumed I missed out.
