  1. But for real. It would be a shame if these accusations are proven to be true, but I guess that just means we can't be supporting Brand New releases in 2018 and onward. On paper Jesse seems stable enough – he's a guy who's married and has a kid of his own, right? – but that doesn't necessarily rule out shit from his past. To play devil's advocate, someone did dig up the girl's Tumblr and (for what it's worth) she's apparently been wrestling with a bipolar disorder, OCD, and a panic disorder for a while now. Not that any of these things discredit her accusations. But if her reputation is truly on the line and she has access to proof in the form of Skype logs or whatever, but refuses to dig them up because of the discomfort they cause, I can't not raise a brow, personally. If you're going to make accusations and have the means of validating them, fine. But if your proof is down on an old hard drive in your basement, and you don't feel like going down there to retrieve files that indisputably prove your case, you may as well be grasping for straws and slandering. That's how I feel about it, anyway. Guilty or not, the whole situation will definitely lose Brand New some fans. There's always going to be a group who insist that newfound details of one member's personal life somehow negates everything the band has ever done, and dismisses a decade or two of your enjoyment of the band. I'm not here to call out anyone who's unable to separate the art from the artist, but burning your records or selling merch you've purchased in the past doesn't seem like it accomplishes a lot, in the present. Not to me, anyway. But I do encourage that crowd to cancel their deluxe Science Fiction orders since they technically haven't shipped yet. PayPal should be able to set that up nicely.

  3. Good example. I still have my Whirr albums and enjoy revisiting them, regardless. And the Gira accusations – which were never proved, but defended by several people include his ex-wife – didn't detract from my ability to enjoy Swans, personally. I totally get sticking to your moral guns and opting to not support a band because of one individual, but by all means... do that by opting to not see them in concert. By not pre-ordering their new albums. By not wearing their merch in public, if you want. But like in the case of Whirr... Distressor still holds up well for me. And when I'm listening to it – as I've heard it many, many times before all the Twitter fueds – I am not hearing the walls of guitar and thinking "hmm. Somewhere in there is Nick Bassett, strumming along. That homophobic piece of shit. Completely tarnishes this album for me." It could be a stretch, but I guess I can understand allowing allegations to effect how you feel about future releases. Like it may be tough for some people to differentiate the vocals from the artist, going forward. But for albums that've been with you for years? I'll never get that. If these Lacey allegations are proven true, I don't think I'll ever revisit TDAG and think to myself "wow, I can't believe I've never noticed how much of a pedophile Jesse sounds in You Won't Know. Guess I'm done with this record." This whole scenario may be different if Brand New was a solo project; written, fronted, and performed by Lacey. But I think it's a serious disservice to completely throw out everyone's contributions over something that may or may not have happened X years ago. Accardi's songwriting and parts – especially on Science Fiction, where they're next level – shouldn't have to be cheapened because of that. I am hardly a Brand New fanboy and I'm viewing this whole scenario with as little bias as humanly possible. Just my 2¢.

  6. this is the demographic of most people who bought this. 90% hype buyers who have no idea what the fuck it is and hope to resell it one day, paired with the 10% of actual vapor fans that actually know why they want it. no, you aren't boldly discovering new music on a forum, you are giving into hype because you are mildly interested in flipping your purchase.

  10. No you’re usually just an all around asshole to anyone on the boards. Obviously Jhulud is one of the nicest dudes on here and he’s clearly not joking about pedophilia but apparently you think we all need to know how much of a self righteous prick you are.

  11. There are some good conversations about this happening on less HARDxCORExLOLxBRO forums if you poke around. Really sad that so many people who hold positions of respect and admiration have used those positions to do these things but glad there are finally consequences.

  13. Thor was fucking awesome. I’m a Waititi mark and was glad to see they let his style shine throughout the film. I was a little worried after the Edgar Wright fiasco that he would just be strongarmed into making a standard MCU movie.

  15. Jesus christ, that statement is arguably worse than just having stayed silent on the whole issue...why would he make no mention of the fact that the allegations are in relation to sexual abuse of a minor?
    1 point
  16. He sure does seem to think it's subtle how he tiptoes around the issue with her being a minor. Now I just think he's a bigger scumbag, not only is he being creepy with minors but he claims to have cheated in most-if-not-all his past relationships, including the current one with his wife, whom he has children with. I don't want this to read out like I'm implying the cheating thing is worse, because it isn't but stacking it on top of the pedophile situation definitely isn't making his situation or reputation any better. Fuck him. Still gonna listen to Brand New, though. Good music.

  23. You do know David Bowie also deflowered a 14 year old girl as an adult though, right? Like...it's not a secret. So it's perfectly fair to compare him in this case. And Steven Tyler was living with a 14 year old girl when he was 27.

  24. That's fair. I'd just encourage you [and everyone else] to keep their wits about them until we get some concrete evidence. No need to regret Brand New tattoos or wall murals or eBay splurges until we can get some confirmation that what happened actually happened. Of course their reputation is unfortunately tarnished to some degree, regardless of the outcome, but at the end of the day it's hearsay until something concrete surfaces. (See: Conor Oberst accusations.)

  25. I think it's just because people can't think for themselves. If it's true I'll still consider them one of my favorite bands, almost unrelated but I still listen to Whirr too and they lost an entire fanbase from a single tweet.

  26. Someone please explain the "welp there's new allegations about a band member so now I guess I can't enjoy this album held in classic regard for the last 11 years" meme to me. Because I feel like I'm missing something.

  27. Yeah. And the Automatic bonus songs seem way better and less redundant than the Out of Time duplicate demos they put on the 3xLP edition. Maybe the OoT deluxe didn't sell too well?

  30. I mean, if 2018 is the end then no one else has to support Brand New. You aren't giving them money by spinning their records. Play on. I still listen to Bowie, GnR, and other folks who have done some heinous shit. I just don't GIVE them any more of my dollaz. I just hope it's a. not true or b. justice is served. Probably b, if we're being honest. But Conor Oberst was an exception, so we'll see.

  32. I was cataloging my entire beastie boys collection on Discogs a few months ago, and I was stunned to discover that it wasn’t the old records, the 80s rarities, that were worth the most, but TT5B and Hot Sauce. Couldn’t believe it.

  36. Yeah, it's pretty wild to see Jeff Cobb, Chuckie T and Sami Callihan in NJPW. On top of that, they added Scurll, Rhodes and ZSJ to the roster and got Suzuki-gun, Hiromu, RPG 3K and Ibushi back this year, which made so many fantastic match-ups possible (that Ibushi-Tana match from Power Struggle for example, holy shit). I gotta say, since losing Nakamura, three of the most important Bullet Club members and the NOAH partnership last year, the product has actually gotten even better and the match quality has never been higher.

    RIP Chuck Mosley

He wasn't an amazing vocalist, but he was unique and Introduce Yourself will always be one of my favorite FNM albums. https://www.theguardian.com/music/2017/nov/10/chuck-mosley-former-lead-singer-of-faith-no-more-dies-at-57https://www.theguardian.com/music/2017/nov/10/chuck-mosley-former-lead-singer-of-faith-no-more-dies-at-57 Chuck Mosley, the former frontman of seminal metal group Faith No More has died at the age of 57, according to a statement released by his family. The statement revealed that Mosley, whose full name was Charles Henry Mosley III, died due to complications related to “the disease of addiction”. The family statement read: “After a long period of sobriety, Charles Henry Mosley III lost his life, on 9 November 2017, due to the disease of addiction. “We’re sharing the manner in which he passed, in the hopes that it might serve as a warning or wake up call or beacon to anyone else struggling to fight for sobriety.” It went on to say that the family are accepting donations for funeral expenses. He was Faith No More’s lead singer between 1984 and 1988, recording on their first two albums We Care A Lot and Introduce Yourself. The title track from We Care A Lot became one of the bands best-known tracks and was described as a “brilliantly sarcastic funk-rock response to Live Aid and We Are the World”, which Mosley co-wrote. Mosley helped the band establish their “funk metal” sound, which was credited with melding early hip-hop, thrash and hardcore, before he was fired from the band in 1988 and replaced by Mike Patton. “There was a rough patch the first couple of years,” Mosley said of the initial split. “We were talking in friendly terms as early as 1990. Five years ago, they invited me up onstage in San Francisco. It has all been good for a long time.” After his time in Faith No More, Mosley continued to work in music and sang for the hardcore band Bad Brains, as well as playing in another funk metal outfit, Cement. Last year he toured playing his own solo acoustic material. He is survived by long-term partner Pip Logan, and his two daughters, Erica and Sophie.
