  1. Y'all are dumb they add a new variant because of high demand and make it a different color while pressing more making it less rare and you still complain. If a label is charging $21 shipped for their LPs hop the fuck off of them!

  6. It's hard enough for smaller labels to make money off of vinyl these days. If more color gimmicks work then bring them on. More money for the band/label, more options for the consumer.

  7. I don't think it's about the label misreading the demand for this album. I think it just might be smart business. I wouldn't fault Saddle Creek at all if they took a look at what Painted Shut was selling for on Discogs and said, "You know what, why shouldn't we be the ones making money off of our own releases". For those saying "it should be about the music", I agree. However, to act like some people didn't pull the trigger on this solely because of the value of Painted Shut is absurd. Bottom line, good for the label and the band. They should be the ones benefiting off the album, not the secondary market.

  9. My guess is they saw that 200-300 people bought the 500 copies and wanted more people/fans to get in on the color train. Good job to them for changing the color and noting it as a 'second press' instead of adding more copies or advertising a new third 'first pressing' variant.

  10. Also a brown guy. I think liberalism and the left and whatever else you want to call that 'side' deserves a ton of pushback and scrutiny, even when it's uncomfortable or confrontational. But I disagree that said push back should be delivered in the form of playing devil's advocate for groups that promote hate or racist ideals or even attitudes that are less sinister/intentional but built on the framework of racist ideals. I'd love to see young, frustrated males on the internet tear Democrats apart for benefitting from corruption and economic inequality while pretending to care about everyone and bring about change in that area. It's a bummer when that passion and frustration is channeled into fighting peers who advocate for minority groups and communities and to perpetuating the idea that empathy is a weakness and flippancy and a lack of empathy is an intellectual strength. Making it safer to be outspokenly racist or rude and safer to perpetuate less overt racist/rude ideas without any challenge will definitely disrupt and frustrate your peers, such as fellow VCers, but it will also lead to a lower quality of life for disadvantaged groups and do absolutely no harm to the people at the top who are truly benefitting from our current system. That said, this is the internet and we are males, so fighting and dick-measuring is going to happen but I hope, at some point, we can find similarities and aim our toxic venom upward at the corrupt instead of at each other all the time.

  11. Shout out to the person that said "Do your own research you clown" in the notes section All I have is my own experience with selling used records. How else would I do this research without the help of others? Trolls gotta troll I guess... Oh and to anyone that does want to BS and troll the survey I can just delete your submission with one click. Yawn

  12. we fixed that! expect an email from the store if you haven't yet. we're actually doing two different pressings, same plates but our split variant is limited to 300 and has dine alone logos on the jacket, labels, etc.

  14. Can a brown guy chime in? Unpopular opinion: I don't think being racist is the worst thing a person could ever be (I.E. a rapist or murderer is significantly worse). I also don't think people exercising their freedom of association makes them inheritly evil. People tend to gather with other people who look like them, and making a law that insists they need to interact with other people isn't going to curb any ill will they may have towards individuals of different ethnicites. I also have absolutely no problem with someone using their "privilege" to their advantage, inherited or not we're all different people with completely different backgrounds and situations. Some people's lives suck a lot more than others. A poor family on welfare in the US still lives significantly better than a poor family in Sudan does. You can be white and poor, in fact in '07 PBS put out a study that said 41% of the homeless population is white, with the second highest being African Americans at 40%. Since I'm talking statistics, it's worth mentioning that Asian people in American are far better off than most white people (they excel in wealth, education, and even live longer). Does that make them racist? I don't think so (or really care). And yes, you can absolutely be racist towards white people. Demeaning any individual because of the color of their skin is what racism is. You can't just change the definition of a word to fit your agenda. If this level playing field you guys speak of based on the idea that the state should forcibly acquire another individual's property to disperse amongst people who have less then that's terrible. You're advocating for theft via the threat of violence against peaceful individuals. If the level playing field is that everyone in America has the same individual rights and their own personal actions determine what their quality of life will be, then I would agree and also argue that playing field is already in effect. The things that set this off balance are usually products of the state, like The War on Drugs, artifical prices on labor, housing, low incentives for high skilled workers to enter public services like education, etc. You guys really should stop pointing the finger at your neighbor who has little to no power over any of this and start questioning your goverment. If the Puerto Rican guy across the street doesn't like Asian people that's not going to effect anyone's life, but a cop throwing a black or brown man in a cage and taking him away from his family because he had too much of a plant they didn't want him to have drastically impacts his and his family member's lives.

  19. I love how conservative snowflakes cry and moan over everything changing yet someone wanting equal footing in life is a pussy. This exactly. As someone from a populated city I've noticed racism truly doesn't exist in rural/mountain areas devoid of PoC that's why it's such a non issue to them though /s Seriously though my sister is half black and I'm as white as you get the things I hear when I take her places would seriously confuse some of you that don't see color. Keep on with your ostrich mentality though.

  20. You don't understand what racism is and that's ok. "I don't notice skin color!" and "What about when black people kill white people that doesn't make the news!" not only contradict each other, but work to try to erase the struggle of people of color. Historically and in present time. Which is a product of racism. Racism isn't just someone burning a cross or yelling "I hate [racial slur]s!" Racism is systematic. It's deeply ingrained in our society and assholes like you are part of the problem.
    2 points
  21. Nah man, the reason that "I don't even see skin color" is bullshit is not because it's inherently racist of the individual to have that stance, it's because it's willful ignorance. Racism exists, it creates an unfair power and privilege dynamic, and reasonable people don't just try not to be racist themselves but they also try to counterbalance that racism. It's not about fighting other people's battles, just SEEING skin color and realizing that there are things you can do to help the situation. It's great you're not racist, if you don't notice/see/believe that other people are and that it impacts those they look down on negatively then you're an asshole.

  25. The only minority I have an interest in defending is the smallest minority possible, the individual. I have no interest in collectivism or fighting shoulder to shoulder with people who want to expand statism and give up their freedom to a group of people who have a monopoly on violence for a false sense of safety. Talk to your neighbor if you want, give your monetary property to any organization you want, as long as it's voluntary and done between consenting adults nobody should care what you do with your time or property. If some dumbass in a flyover state doesn't want to sell cakes to people of color his business is going to fail, it's in his best interest to not be an asshole. Realistically all of our own self interests are what prevent us from being assholes. Fining the cake shop owner and throwing him in prison if he doesn't pay doesn't do anything. He's not going to suddenly change his mind. Now if that same business owner decides he wants to use violence or force against someone because of their ethnicity that's a completely different thing, and force should be met with force. Before you get in an uproar over things you can't control ask yourself, "Should someone be thrown in a cage for this?" Chances are the answer will mostly always be, "no." It's not difficult. Be an asshole and live a harder life if you want to, but don't violate anyone else's freedom or use violence unless it's in self defense. You guys make it sound like we don't live in a country where a Muslim cab driver will take a Jewish person to their front door in exchange for money. They both consented to a deal and overlook their hatred in order to get something they want. Voluntary exchanges are a beatiful thing and surpass all this nonsense, threatening violence does not.

  26. how do you know that? that's so frustrating! you should do both. you should stand up to your neighbors and talk with them about racism/bigotry AND question your governments policies and actions (be it local, state, federal). You can/should be doing both! why does it have to be one and not the other?

  28. I mean, I've felt this way my entire adult life, so well before this was news or Bernie was even a name anyone knew. It's just called empathy man, I try to see things from other people's perspective and act accordingly. Try it sometime, it feels good. And personally I don't think Bernie was a good option. Great ideals, but ideals aren't always practical. I didn't realize that was part of the argument, but whatever, literally no one is saying that we should let anyone and everyone in. But you do you.

  30. I default to this mentality with anything that sends blood to Gumbo’s lil’ gumby, and seeing Don post “yeah, I would’ve bought this a decade ago” basically reinforces that stance. You dig what you dig so there’s truly no “right” or “wrong” answers... but at risk of sounding too pretentious, it has way less to do with preferring “avant-garde” spins on the genre, and more to do with just being fatigued by the through-and-through approaches. You’re allowed to enjoy bands that do not push the envelope, but some of us have been listening to that formula for over a decade and struggle to find any real merit in it today. Burnt out.

  35. I had this same discussion with my sister and it ended with both of us screaming "Fuck you!" as loud as we could, over our cellphones. She was talking about all of these mythical freeloading welfare moms and telling me about how she pulled herself up from her dead end bartender job and went back to college to achieve more in her life. Now she lives in a million dollar gated community in Orange County and still feels like she needs a gun in the house for security. She is delusional about how much of a foot up we had over many other people. Of course, she forgot about how we were middle class, my parents bought us our first cars, we had full health insurance coverage, and always had some measure of security that we could borrow a small amount of money if we got in a really tight jam. Yes, we both worked hard to get where we are, BUT we had many advantages. People who can't see that are just fuckin' stupid.

Waiting on the following arguments from @vinyl addict: -My best friend/coworker/manicurist/frogsitter is black -What about all of the non-white people who are violent and addicted to drugs -How come liberal media only reports on racism and not on rich white guys like me who don't see skin colour? -It's not fair that all of you libtards are ganging up on me. I need a safe space -I really fucking love Kid Rock, literally the only musician who agrees with me on anything. -I'm one of those people who believes that every Muslim including Obama is out to kill us because Alex Jones told me so. -Shut up, that's why.
