It really says something about the Flaming Lips when they put beer inside their record and that’s only the second weirdest liquid they’ve filled a release with.

This is exactly where I am now with new purchases. I don't variant collect and I don't care about pressing numbers, I just want something that looks good when matched up with the album art. Some of the best recent ones I can think of are the Translation Loss issues of We Lost the Sea's Departure Songs, some of the variants of the new underOATH record (the art direction is arguably the best part of Erase Me), and something as simple as the deluxe version of Lorde's Melodrama on opaque royal blue. The hue just matches perfectly with the album art. So something as simple as an opaque color will do it for me if it's appropriate. But c'mon, how hard would it have been to throw up a cloudy clear w/ some combination of green/yellow/pink/blue splatter out of like 300 and maybe a silver/grey and black marble/merge out of 500. Then give DW 500 clear, and throw the rest of the 2,000 batch on some tour variant along with standard black and call it a day?

VC Clear Crew representing. There are a few of us. After seeing the unimaginative variants for New Bermuda, I wasn’t holding my breath for anything crazy, anyway. I’m not a huge fan of the cover art and don’t really care all that much about insane color combinations for the vinyl itself; if it matches and has a cohesive aesthetic, I’m game. And fortunately clear wax looks great with almost every black-and-white jacket I’ve ever seen. Anyone read the writeup on the product page? Interesting that Chelsea Wolfe makes an appearance on the album.

Pure Comedy had some great material and some really fillery material, so I'm hoping the 10 tracks / 38min runtime stats on this will lead to a more focused album. Gonna bite and PO probably.

I actually really enjoyed this album. As someone who kind of fell off of them after “Define The Great Line,” this seems like a pretty good transition from that. I can totally see why you wouldn’t like this though if your were use to them being “heavier.”

I think "Half Light" is excellent. I just prefer "Mother And Child Divided" between the two and think it flows better with "So Called Friend" which would be the preceding track. I tell you what, that's not a terrible idea in of itself. But what kills this particular song for me is the tempo. PT sounds awkward and feels uncomfortable at this type of fast tempo. I personally think the fastest they should go is something like "Arriving Somewhere..." or the title tracks to either Deadwing or Fear Of A Blank Planet-all three are relatively fast, but a bit slower than "...Master Tape". It just feels weird when they tried to play fast tempo material, at least to my ears, and "...Master Tape" might work a lot better 10-15 BPMs slower. Of course, I am talking of the "band" albums, as there is faster tempo stuff on the early "solo" albums (think "Linton Samuel Dawson") that works because it fits with the psych/krautrock pastiche vibe of those records.

Unsurprisingly Truth or Dare was shit. Could have been fun, but they reaaalllly aimed it for the PG13 crowd. Not just in the PG13 friendly gore, the whole thing is like a teen soap opera. I don't know a current one to reference. Dawson's Creek?
