    Record Store Day 2018

I know that there are a lot of new faces in this thread due to general RSD hype, but it should be noted that absolutely nothing Tug has said on this forum has ever once proven to be true. His account is typically banned 50% of the time, or more. The lack of affection from his parent(s) and general poor life decisions have led him to crave attention on message boards, and it's best to just not feed into it.

  2. Craziest thing I saw was someone buying the Stone Sour release, I didn't know they had fans.

  3. RSD was awesome for me, I've been on both sides of the counter but this was my first experience managing a record store for RSD. We gave out donuts and coffee for the morning crowd, had local artists perform from open until close. Raffled off concert tickets, new cds, new and used LPs including a gold copy of the Drive soundtrack, brushes and cleaning fluid, a carrying case for 45s filled with rare 45s, some rare Linda ronstadt records (it's an inside joke unless you have been to my shop, we got a collection containing every Linda Ronstadt record or single on any format including 8 track and also variants on just about every country of release from Japan to Argentina, so we did a test pressing and an import picture sleeve and a picture disc LP for the raffle). It was humbling to see that many people having a great time and buying physical media. Sales were up a sizable amount from the previous year, so I'm beaming with pride. I oversaw all the ordering and spent countless hours prepping and it was well worth all the effort, and my staff was on point the whole time and leading up to the event, I could not have done it without them. I rewarded them with gourmet pizza. I in turn was also rewarded because at the end of the day I was still able to grab the Tim Armstrong, Dessa 7" and The Grant Green Slick set. I did snipe one thing and it was the Sundays but I had the other 2 and I was damned if I was going to miss this one but I paid sticker price. Luckily the other local had a Bert Jansch, so all I missed out on from my list was the Gene Clark and I think I have a line on a leftover. Fantastic experience all and all but I am exhausted.

  4. The only thing that could make that site better is if one copy cost $25, two cost $60 and three cost $100.

  7. The guy in front of my girlfriend and I bought a fuckton of stuff. Turns out he was just a super-friendly dad and this was his first RSD. He works at a different record store that wasn't participating. Half of what he was buying was non-RSD stuff and he was just happy to be partaking. It was really wholesome in the sea of grody peeps

  21. Yet another reissue - Sexy Boy. By the accounts I’ve read online, nearly the whole batch was shipped with warps because they tried to be fancy and make it a shaped picture disc.

  24. The most ridiculous thing I saw yesterday was Escape-ism live at Third Man Records in Detroit. Ian Svenonius is an experience (and I mean this in the best way possible). The Cass Corridor location had all of their exclusives (including the Sleep album on green) in stock as of 5pm Saturday, which is also ridiculous because I always equated Third Man with the most limited availability of releases.

  27. Numero Group released their Savage Young Du boxset on "Skittles" colored vinyl limited to 100 yesterday at their pop up shop in Chicago. I was able to snag one, but if anyone's interested, they released their remaining stock online. It was $80 at the pop up and their selling it for $100 online... https://twitter.com/numerogroup/status/988123355365683203

    Record Store Day 2018

As a few others have mentioned, I would say it's in your best interest to just "wait it out". A 10,000-press is truly massive, and I foresee many copies oozing up through tiny shops and distros in the coming weeks. As it was debated yesterday, you can maybe find a deal on one with diligent eBay searching, but I personally don't think that'll be the case at any point in the next 48-72 hours. I haven't been monitoring that one on Discogs but I would add it to your Wantlist there, and keep on eye on available copies in their marketplace. Bull Moose will be putting up overstock at 7 AM EST. Turntable Lab and Banquet Records have a listing for it that you can subscribe to, where they'll e-mail you as soon as leftovers are put up. But above all else, with that large of a run, I really do think you'll see some more sprout up from obscure distros.

  47. When I said "wide" I meant it would be carried by all the usual suspects that carry normal TMR stuff (for example, it's up on BullMoose now). I wanna assume that it would be available in non-US retail spots, but I can't really verify that, I'm just guessing. Unrelated but anyone else think it's kinda funny that literally every Sleep release is on a different label? (Not to mention the Dopesmoker reissue adds Southern Lord to that list).
