  1. Amplifiers normally have the least affect on the sound of all the components. Glad you are happy but i expect the receiver is coloring the sound rather than being more transparent.
  2. Does the lack of gain mean you have to introduce distortion with you amplifier though? Just wondering.
  3. I have been using the over ear momentums myself and have enjoyed using them but they have a little bass bloom. Just bought some nad visio hp50 for £150 and they are superior closed back cans and no bass bloom
  4. Does the schiit have the ability to reduce volume? I need it to be less than line level as line level is too loud for me. I have not come across any headphone amps that do this.
  5. The 122 had a good review in hifi world in the uk last month. Looking at it myself
  6. Always a difficult one this. Whether you benefit or not depends on where you live. In a city there will be few problems with the power but if you are near heavy industry the electricity will be "dirty" I have a UPS for my PC but i dont plug my hifi into it since it doesnt produce pure square? waves which electricity from the mains is. Fine for the PC brownouts but not so great on cleaning up the supply.
  7. I use senneheiser momentums over ear large cans now in the winter uk. Also jvc flats for smaller cans. Both closed back Sennheiser IEMs around £35 but the wire is a bit microphonic Phonaks pfe112 £150 Opposite problem here with small ear canals.
  8. Do you have any dealers near you that specialise in technics upgrades? In the UK there are a few that advertise in hifi magazines so check the magazines in your locale.
  9. I would record the vinyl in what ever format audacity supports then convert later. Personally i use a high end minidisc recorder 555es 24bit depth but lossy ATRAC. Then transfer the minidisc to the computer in WAV format. I use foobar player for converting WAV into FLAC but it does all formats.
  10. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tripp-Lite-SUPER6OMNID-Suppressor-Universal/dp/B00063E98U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1414274517&sr=8-1&keywords=Trip-Lite+Isobar+power+strip Am i missing something or is this just a standard surge protection power strip?
  11. Inner sleeves. If the cover sleeves protect the outer sleeve
  12. Interesting do you have a link for any posts that it can be used for stylus cleaning? Browsing through amazon uk reviews but have not seen it mentioned yet.
  13. At the high concentration 97% of alcohol i think any on the stylus will evaporate before it gets to the suspension or glue if any did move up with capillary action. I did use a Audio technica vibrating brush but i think that was likely to cause problems to the suspension and now just use the alcohol on an artist natural bristle brush.
  14. Should be fine unless you are thinking about touching the suspension with the alcohol?
  15. I use a natural bristel paint brush with propan-2-ol (IPA) dont use acetone BTW
  16. My project perspective plugged in to a creek phono stage has hum at half of full volume with no music I think this is normal, as long as you dont hear hum at normal listening levels and during music the earth link should be ok.
  17. We told you ! Glad you are enjoying it. Vinyl does seem to need more money to sound good than other formats it seems
  18. I have bought the odd second hand record that is well worn. The distortion is what i noticed more than anything else particularly on the innner tracks.
  19. Think of it as comparable to knock off mobile phone chargers that explode.
  20. "Also, I intend on buying a new player soon anyway, so please don't anybody just say something like ''You need to get a new turntable man'' because that's not actual advice, and that's what I sometimes seem to see on places like these. Not being rude, it just isn't useful advice." Sadly you do need a new turntable these TTs are notoriously bad and damage your records. It is sadly too cheap to even play a record without damaging it. I would take it back myself and get a refund and say it doesnt play my records and so is not fit for purpose. A second hand record player or a project essentials at £150 in the uk is the most basic TT that works properly,
  21. Yes i agree to enjoy music at its best you need to sit down and have no distractions. Otherwise there is not a great deal of point spending decent money on separates. Martin
