I figured four speakers were pointless in a non-surround sound setup - I just got the pair of Energy speakers for pretty cheap and threw them on since there was another channel. Is there a reason to pull the sub? (Other than me feeling it was overkill?) I appreciate the advice! Just wondering.

I've settled into my current setup for a while, but I don't know anyone in person who is a vinyl enthusiast as much as I am. Could I get feedback on my setup, and/or any recommendations on how to get it to sound better? This is my first time doing a setup, so I'm always worried I've made some grave error and hooked something up wrong. Turntable: Pro-ject Debut Carbon w/ Ortofon 2M Blue. I upgraded the platter to an acrylic one for extra flair. (..and less animal hair clinging to a mat) Receiver: Marantz PM5004 Sub: Polk Audio PSW505 Speakers: 2x Energy RC-10 2x Infintiy Primus P163 I have one set of speakers going through the sub and the other set hooked into the back of the receiver itself. I have the bass on the receiver turned down quite a bit and have a lot of the bass coming through the sub itself. Is this the correct way of doing things? In hindsight, it feels the Polk Audio sub is a bit of overkill, considering I'm in an apartment. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

I have purchased the PM5004, and am currently waiting on my speakers to arrive on Tuesday. I will test them for a bit, and if I don't like them, I will exchange for something better. Sorry for the questions - but I really am new to all of this. I've read as much as I can, but some things are still confusing for me. The PM5004 I purchased has a Phono In, which means my Preamp in this case isn't necessary, right? I will be returning that. Additionally, is there a way I can hook a subwoofer up to this successfully? Any recommendations on those?

Thanks for your insight.. I might go with the Marantz PM5004. The speakers handle up to 150 watts according to the website.. would these be a good match?

Hi everyone - I recently joined the world of vinyl a couple months ago with a NOFX box set and an Audio Technica LP-60. I was immediately not impressed with its output quality and knew I could do better. I've been researching, and and purchased the following: Pro-ject Carbon Debut Music Hall PA1.2 MM/MC 2x Infinity Primus p163 speakers. Now I'm not totally familiar with how the setup needs to be done, but I'm under the impression I will still need a receiver or an amp of some sort. Finding this whole topic was a bit of a coincidence for me.. I was looking for The Backchannel Broadcast on eBay last week, and noticed there was only one copy that sold for $80. Did some Googling to see if it was available somewhere else, and it led me here. I was also a victim of the 12:00pm server hiccup, but I wanted to wait for the "Go" before chancing it. I missed both the tie dye and white versions, but I'm just glad overall to get anything! Can't wait for the TBR set. Also, I'll be sticking around this board. Very informative and nice people.
