They are incredible. I was really happy with the midrange sound, and the non-tinny highs. Not that I had issue with the SFs, but older speakers I did. Super well-rounded speaker. I demoed in a room similar to mine, but with lower end equipment. I was shocked how great they sounded right off the bat. I just demoed with Postal Service - Give Up tracks 1 and 2; Save the Day - Through Being cool tracks 1 and 2; and Iron and Wine - Our Endless Numbered Days tracks 1 and 2. Plus some funk the seller liked. The bass he had set up is almost ideally what I liked; but he had never used them for movies... so I'll be exploring that this weekend. I wanted big speakers to fill my house. I got em.

Nice range of tables and nice to see so many in use, looks a lot like my house with turntables everywhere. The feet on that Goodmans Lenco don't look exactly standard though? I had a Goodmans one in the sprung white formica plinth a little while ago and I've got one in a Leak plinth that I'm working on at the moment.

    Current turntable list is:
Pink Triangle PT1 with FFYX arm and Grado 8MZ
Pink Triangle PT1 with Logic Datum2 arm and Koetsu Rosewood Signature
Garrard 401 with SME 3009 improved and Shure M97xe
Garrard 401 with Helius Scorpio and Grace f9e
MRM Source with Helius Scorpio 3 and Sumiko BPS
Manticore Mantra/Manticore MB6i with Manticore Magician Audio Technica AT-OC9
Input Designs Kitdeck with Jelco SA250 and Shure V15III
Royce Elega with Jelco SA750 and Audio Technica AT-12S
Sharp Optonica RP-3636 standard arm with Nagaoka MP10 Boron
London Acoustical Developments (LAD) GAJ828P with OEM Jelco SA-370 (I've got 4 of these, 2 very early and 2 later)
Self made suspended DD and modified 12" ADC arm with Shure M97HE
AR Legend with Helius Scorpio 2 with Grado GTE+1

    Pretty much my reaction.

MC carts are generally more tonally balanced than MM carts which some people mistake for an MM cart being more detailed, this is generally an immediate impact due to the general tonal balance of an MM cart being toward the higher end of the spectrum but live with any half decent MC for a while and it's overall more balanced sound should win out with any musical type.

Don't get me wrong, there are good and bad in both and to get the best out of any cartridge the rest of the system needs to be able to resolve what it gives out which is never more true of an MC cart than the tone arm it's mounted in but there is a reason the very best cartridges are all MC's and why those that are at the very top of the tree don't even bother with MM.

One notable exception to not follow this is Grado but then the better Grado's are not really in either camp and I can't help thinking old Joe just wanted to plough his own furrow.

Yeah I know these are not in Charlotte and it's quite a hike to get to these from Charlotte. But RSD or not, these are all worth a visit, Hippo in particular.
I guess this serves as a general plug, I am only now seeing that OP is from the UK and probably won't have time to commit to travel to these areas.

@catsound B&O has gone through many phases of acceptance over the years, in the 70's and 80's they had a very high reputation which was more than a little based on hype and form over function so in the 90's B&O equipment was pretty much worthless, now it is again trading on that high reputation and very fashionable.

As @AGBsaid the biggest drawback with B&O turntables is the cartridge as you can only use a B&O cartridge and in your case an MMC 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 with the lowest number being the highest spec, the rebuild cost for an MMC4 or 5 the last time I had one rebuilt was 99 Euro's plus postage so from the US budget around $140.  The only other thing you might need is a new belt and these can be had for a couple of bucks.

As to whether its any good well opinions vary and like most manufacturers that have been at it a long time some B&O turntables are very good ranging down to at best average, yours is toward the average end but that isn't necessarily a bad thing because a lot of what is available new now is worse that average in comparison so with a good stylus in it will still sound better than something like the Teac TN300, any of it's direct competition and anything that is in a lower price bracket so even if the cartridge is toast for a comparable new turntable you would need to spend quite a bit more than the cost of rebuild to get better performance in something new.

If you do need to get the cartridge rebuilt then I can wholeheartedly recommend these people, I've used them on more than a few occasions with superb results.

If it were mine I'd keep it and look to getting the cartridge rebuilt and would look at getting the rest of the system B&O as it will make connection and use a lot more simple, so a Beomaster like the Beomaster 2200 or anything from the Beomaster 1900 family or possibly a Beocenter that has tape decks rather than a built in turntable like the Beocenter 4000 but with this one you would need an adaptor for the connections as it uses the more normal 2 RCA Phono's to connect the turntable rather than the 7pin din connector that is standard for B&O

There's pretty much every format you can think of for this including the lathe cut on old laser discs, CD's, cassettes and every colour of vinyl imaginable but I haven't seen any open reel copies so I've decided to do my own limited to 1 copy and delivered it to my only customer (me) yesterday. I'm going to drag out my Akai 8 track recorder next and do a copy on that just for the fun of it. Gotta find a nice colour laser printer now for the artwork.

Well I love it, which is why I made it that way!  It reminds me of a fucked up ugly fence or tool shed or something that’s been outside too long.

I still appreciate everyone’s opinion though, even if you aren’t into it! I’m going to keep using it as my secondary table. Going to probably end up throwing a different cartridge on there though (still not a fan of the ortofon), I’m using my AT440mla for now.

Thanks everyone for playing along. This thing sat next to my kitchen table for 6 months and then took me 2 days to finish
