  1. I'm in Toronto. I did a short move a few years ago and used some boxes from U-haul which were a perfect size. Edit. I found one of the boxes in the basement and they're 12" 5/8 x 12" 5/8 x 16" 3/8. They're the size small boxes.
  2. Anybody watch the new episode of Creepshow yet? I watched it last night and really enjoyed it. First story felt like a riff on the first Creepshow movie but the second story was fantastic. I also started working through "In Search of Darkness" and I'm in 80's horror movie heaven.
  3. Got mine today! It is also more of a gold/red swirl. In other news for Canadian shipping minutiae, DHL handed the record over to Final Mile shipping at the border. That means I didn't have to pay additional duty for clearing the border! I got dinged on every single Mondo order in 2020 and it was like $50 for the Batman the Animated Series Volume 2 box set. Happy to not shell out another $20 for this one. Hope this is the new standard for Mondo.
  4. I do like anthologies and I watched this one yesterday. Really liked the third story about the guy with the sick wife - that elevator scene was awesome! Also really enjoyed the twist in the final story and closing scene. Good recommendation!
  5. Haven't had much time or energy to watch many movies while my kids' school was on extended closure due to Covid but now they're out of the house during the weekdays again. In the last couple of months I watched... Crystal Lake Memories. Took me a few days to get through this beast of a documentary but I loved it. I am a big fan of the (first six) Friday the 13th movies and really enjoyed this inside look at things. Sleepaway Camp. Went into this expecting an F13 ripoff, unaware of the "notorious" ending. Pretty ho-hum up to those last few minutes which I don't think I can ever un-see. The Burning. Another F13 ripoff but more entertaining than Sleepaway Camp. Not overly noteworthy other than it features a young Jason Alexander. Fun but kind of unremarkable. Scratched the itch of wanting to watch a made in the 80's F13 clone. Nightmare Cinema. An anthology movie where each character finds themselves inside a short horror movie after entering a theatre. A little uneven and Mickey Rourke was super weird as the projectionist but it was good and I'd watch it again. My favourite short was the one with Elizabeth Reaser from Haunting of Hill House. Super Dark Times. Teen movie where one kid dies accidentally and the paranoia within the group of survivors causes havoc. Well done but more suspenseful than horror. Summer of 84. Another teen movie with a mystery suspect. I kept thinking "No, it can't be. That's too obvious" but I was right. I found I was waiting for a twist that never showed up. The ending was good however. I would recommend this one. Lately I've been working through some of the Last Drive-In stuff on Shudder and loving it.
  6. Phoebe wasn't really on my radar until I saw her on SNL last night. Totally blown away and now I am late to the vinyl-variant party. Anyone got any leads on the red/blue galaxy variant and/or would be willing to help me out? Please and thank you.
  7. New pressing of the Scott Pilgrim vs the World game OST up at Limited Run. Looks like it's the original music plus a 10" of unreleased songs. These are up for a six week pre-order period. Complete Edition Vinyl -$35USD: https://limitedrungames.com/collections/neo-frontpage/products/scott-pilgrim-vs-the-world-the-game-complete-edition-soundtrack-vinyl T-shirt + Complete Edition Vinyl - $55 USD: https://limitedrungames.com/collections/neo-frontpage/products/scott-pilgrim-vs-the-world-the-game-vinyl-soundtrack-and-shirt-bundle
  8. Nice! I caught a few of the live streams in the past couple months and the new songs sound great. Really looking forward to this one. I splurged on a test pressing and hoping I get my pickup notice tomorrow.
  9. I really hope things work out ok for your father and the rest of your family, jhulud. This is not the year or the time of year to be going through a health scare. Sending positive thoughts your way. I say that as my father-in-law passed away last Tuesday. Underlying health conditions got to him but his passing was sudden and unexpected. It was not Covid related. My wife is off to be with her immediate family and my marching orders were to stay home with the kids and keep the household running. With Covid putting attendance caps on funeral services and our own risk factors with the kids being in school, I understand that it's best to stay put. It's still breaking my heart to not be there to help and pay my respects in person. I'm also having some trouble as we head into the holidays. At first I was relieved that my family was postponing any gatherings and excited that for once we finally don't have to travel. Now the sadness is setting in that we aren't going to see anyone. Again, I know this is for the best but everything is feeling like such a grind these days.
  10. Bumping with a gold variant /300 https://www.dinealonestore.com/collections/the-dirty-nil/products/the-dirty-nil-fuck-art-gold-lp Also some new Nil merch at the Dine Alone store too.
  11. I see that Prime is having a Black Friday promo with Shudder discounted to $2.99 (CAD) monthly for three months. Is there enough good content to give it a go? The idea of having some different stuff to watch during the downtime over the holidays certainly is appealing
  12. I watched Prom Night 2 yesterday and really enjoyed it. Checked a lot of boxes for a classic 80s teen horror movie and was more fun than the original. Also I recently watched The Witch and Hereditary. Both were excellent. The attention to detail really drew me into The Witch. Everything to make it so authentic to the time period made it more immersive when spooky things happened.
  13. Waxwork put out Friday the 13th Part 8 last Friday, and it seemed to have sold out on Sunday. They just restocked 100 of them if anyone is still looking. https://waxworkrecords.com/collections/all/products/friday-the-13th-part-viii-jason-takes-manhattan I'm not a huge fan of the later F13 movies but my OCD will not let this collection be incomplete.
  14. Since this thread got bumped, has anyone heard anything lately about Scenery & Fish on vinyl? Thought they were going to do it for the 20th anniversary but I think we're closing in on 25 years next year.
  15. Is that the positivity rate within the school system or city-wide? Are there many cases within schools?
  16. Yep. It seems to happen with DHL and no other carriers. I got hit for $16 CAD in duty on my Nightmare Before Christmas order and that was on top of the $17 USD ($22 CAD) I had already paid for shipping. $38 just for shipping and clearing the border.
  17. I watched Us last night and really enjoyed it. I don't think I even breathed during the scenes where the doubles first show up, get into the house and Red "introduces" them. So tense. So well done. Otherwise my last couple weeks of movie watching has been a little all over the place. I have watched Friday the 13th 1-8, Body Count (1986), Prom Night (1980 and 2008), Waxwork, House, Amityville Horror (1979 and 2005) and I'm sure there are others I am forgetting
  18. Did you watch the 1980 version or the 2008 version? I watched both in the past week or so. I liked the old one but the copy that was on Prime was so fuzzy and dark that I would find myself distracted by how poor the picture quality was. I get that HD wasn't a thing then, and it's a fairly low-budget Canadian film, but it looks like someone played a VHS tape on an old TV, filmed it with a camcorder, and then uploaded it. I liked the story though and it was generally entertaining and well done. I found the 2008 version to be very straightforward, predictable and boring.
  19. Checking in from Toronto. Feeling pretty similar to a lot of you. I'm getting by, and that feels like all I'm doing. My wife and I have been working from home since March. My hours (more like pay, because I'm working more than ever) got cut but my wife is still full time. We had the kids home with us from March till late August. It was difficult and drove us nuts but at least I felt like we were in control of the situation. They're back at in-person school, at least for now. We're in a bad second wave here and I'm second guessing the decision to have the boys in school. Masks are mandatory and we do mandatory health screening every morning before sending them out. So far there have been no cases at their school and school outbreaks in general have been very rare here. We try to do our part to stay safe but I have concerns about others not following the rules. I felt so much fear and anxiety in the first wave during the spring shutdown. The situation seemed under control for most of the summer. In this second wave I feel like no one is taking it nearly as seriously, including the government. I realize they can't pay people to stay home forever and I'm in a fortunate position to have a job I can do from home but I feel like the numbers get worse and worse every day without any kind of intervention. It's depressing and feels like all the progress made in the first shutdown was lost. Work is ok but it kinda feels like groundhog day, never really leaving the house. Every day is the same goddamn thing. I went through a rough time last fall/winter and I'm not really happy with my job. I was trying to find something else before covid but now I feel like other options have disappeared. I'm trying to focus on my family, records, movies and playing guitar to stay happy but some days it's hard.
  20. Word has it that a limited quantity will be available online through Paper Bag Records in the coming days.
  21. I just finished the last episode of Bly Manor. I enjoyed the beginning and the end but I just felt lost through episodes 5 and 6. I don't want to spoil anything but I feel like the middle went off course without explanation. The ending was satisfying. The story was good but not as scary as Hill House. I think the pacing would be better if it was five or six episodes instead of nine.
  22. Went out for the afternoon and missed the splatter. Hopefully it turns up again at the DA store someday, but I don't want to sleep on the Nil exclusive either. Though now I am also eyeing that new pressing of Higher Power. Decisions, decisions....
  23. My Chrono record finally arrived today and I have been pretty worried after some of the things I've seen about SE's shipping. There's been some scary pictures of badly bent records on reddit. Sorry to see yours got messed up too. Mine was actually well wrapped in bubble wrap and the shipping box was stuffed with brown paper so the record didn't shift or rattle around. Guess I got lucky. But speaking of Chrono, does anyone know anything about a 4LP box that came out earlier this year? It's a bootleg (but a gorgeous bootleg) that I gather was distributed through some private Facebook group. I will probably never get a copy but I am really interested in this set.
