My big takeaway from this thread is that maybe I should care more about my sleeve condition upon receiving a new record.

I will say the OCS stuff is some of my lest favorite material in their catalog. But the new track is pretty promising so I'm looking forward to it.

My "fear" is, that her team was afraid of music getting out, that they live in a bubble and don't get more outside opinions. And thats how that song ended up with its chorus. I'm sure the album will be fine. I'm especially looking forward to it if its sound is similar to the single. But I want hooks too.

Personally, I would just bend that back and go about my business.

The red splatter on gold looks pretty cool in person. I'm loving this album. for me, its in the top half of their catalog. I know its not the boldest endorsement, but I think it could be a top 5 record of theirs if it sticks with me as the year goes on.

Probably to no ones surprise, I found the Kevin Gray cut slightly better than the definitive cut by John Golden. The definitive version is very good. DOn't get me wrong. I though the KG cut was a bit more robust/fuller. I did a blind comparison of both records going track by track. I found that consistently noted preferring the KG cut, but to be fair, sometimes it was a toss up (VPI HW-19jr w/ a Grado blue on a vintage Marantz 2220 with Polk speakers). I think if you have the KG cut, you can pass on the definitive. Otherwise, get the KG cut if you don't own one, but if you have to get the definitive version (like because of a discount code or whatever), you will probably be happy with that as well. The Black to Black/KG cut packaging is a bit different. Inners are a thicker paper. Spine is a touch wider. Colors are muted. The DE is closer to the original pressing, Colors are richer. inners are the thin glossy paper (and do not come with the discs in them to avoid seem splits). The original pressing had the boldest colors on the packaging and are a richer yellow/brown with an orange hue. I don't have my original CD anymore, but I remember that being the same. These 2 new pressings seem to favor more yellow in the colors rather than the warmer orange end. Anyway those are my thoughts on the new DWS pressings.

These new liner note booklets are awesome. I also noticed that messed up hype sticker from a few pages back was not on my copy.

I've never tried the deluxe, unless they are wider by an inch and wider in opening, they won't fit these. These se will be loose in the box set sleeves, but they protect them fine. Been using them on oversized records for 10 years. Maybe I'll order a pack of the deluxe to check them out though. Reading the description though I get the impression it's for thicker gatefolds (like tip on 2x180g LP sized) rather than double spine releases

They have to be the box set sleeve city sleeves. I buy the 5.0 and they don't fit.

To be fair, those songs are better than most people's songs.

The song isn't great, but its not really the abortion that the internet thinks it is. The chorus is only bad part of it. I wonder if this song gets cut from the final album

Its those pirates pressings. There is always crap in them. Good idea on swapping the inners out for thinner inners (thin-ners?) and just keeping them in the bag.

the records work in the sleeve. its just a bit tight. They did use thicker printed inners with rounded corners to look like a projector slide. Thats not a justification, they just went bigger on inners than what they normally do.

Then it was my misunderstanding. I thought the question was about $35 for a record not about not using a double gatefold. I mean, I did say it was weird it wasn't gatefold.

I think labels and acts gotta do what they need to do to get by. And if they can get a cut of the secondary market, more power to them. Ultimately it sucks for the the fan where $35 is a stretch, they get hurt one way or the other. But again, the market will correct if CF is biting off too much. But if this isn't the way to do it, I don't know of a better way. The black LP is $24 at Amazon. I don't think thats too unreasonable for a 2LP album. I mean, they are really only going after the nerds who collect this shit. They are the only ones who are getting priced out. But they also seem to have the disposable income to buy this stuff.

Do small bands/small labels not deserve the money? But ultimately the market will determine whether its fair or not. If $35 is too much, then they wont sell. If they sell out then its fine.

I'm probably gonna pass on this. I just went back to Wow and Dreams. While the new single was good, those were not. IDK if I want to commit to this based on that ratio of success.

Theres no way the regular albums will go OOP at this point.
