The music for this record was recorded in just under an hour (!!!) and it’s exactly what you would expect from a band comprised of members of HERATYS, INSTITUTION, AGENT ATTITUDE, NITAD, and VREDESMORD. Kevin Mertins had been the original singer for OUT COLD and he rejoined the band on vocals in order to help them complete their final recordings after the tragic passing of the band’s primary songwriter: Mark Sheehan. After their collaboration on A Heated Display, John and Kevin decided to start a new project, and they included John’s brother, Fred (another OUT COLD alumnus). These six songs are the first recording from the band. Musically, STUN EVENT provides a fresh take on a genre that can be predictably derivative. The familiar elements are there but they’re executed in such a way that the maturity of the musicianship and songwriting comes through. There are nods to early punk influences from disparate and somewhat unexpected sources: like THE FIX or NEGATIVE APPROACH playing “Paranoid Time” but the end result is all their own. The color vinyl repress of OBLIVIONATION was rejected but we’re told we’ll have copies soon. BURNING KITCHEN has delivered their newest record to us and we’re sending it off to the plant any day now. Look for this monster of a record to be released in winter 2015. Catch them live, along with DAMAGED HEAD and AGENT ATTITUDE, in Uppsala, Sweden between November 7-9th at Fun In The U.A. We’ll also be premiering a new video with a song form the upcoming full-length next week early next week. Speaking of DAMAGED HEAD, they’ll be opening for OFF! in Stockholm next weekend. After that, they plan to lay low to prepare for a recording with Kenko that will be used for a split with Diagnosis? Bastard! (members of Nitad and Victims). CLEANSING WAVE “CRUDE EP” three-sided 7″ Also available for preorder is the Cleansing Wave "Crude EP" three-sided 7". How the hell do you make a three-sided 7"? Well, we collaborated with our good friend Adam at Telegraph Mastering and included an extra song that plays from the inside out on the "A/B" side. This allowed us to fit the entire 5-song session on one 7" in a way where it still sounds great. The "CRUDE EP" is the latest release by the Massachusetts punk quartet and it serves as a follow-up to a previously released demo, a "s/t" 7" EP, and a series of split releases, including a split flexi with G.A.S.H, a split cassette with TINITUS, and a split 7" with San Francisco's MIDNITE BRAIN. DISTRO UPDATE Things have been a little quiet on the distro side because we’ve been traveling a ton this summer and we've also been focused on some non-label stuff. However, we have been stocking new titles here and there and we have restocked a number of things that we’d run out of earlier in the spring. That said, definitely keep an eye on the distro in the coming weeks and months because we will be getting waves of new releases coming in and we'll be focusing on keeping up with new records as they come out. It's summer, so we've been listening to lots of VENOM P STINGER. We've also been listening to the LONG KNIFE “Possessed” 7”. As expected, they pick back up where they left off on "Wilderness". If you don’t know, Long Knife receives the POISON IDEA comparison quite a bit, and it’s not unfounded (the singer sounds A LOT like Jerry A), but they’re not just aping PI riffs and recycling PI songs; they are enough of their own entity that the songs stand on their own. We caught them in Portland recently and man they can deliver live. The level of musicianship and songwriting in that band is definitely impressive. Also on heavy rotation is the ARCTIC FLOWERS “Weaver” LP. If you know the AF catalog, this one falls a bit closer to "Reveries" and the early 7”s but still maintains some of the post-punk and goth elements they were flirting with on Procession. This one is bound to be on lots of top ten lists this year and it will certainly be on ours. BLACKWATER just released the DISARRAY discography on LP. This LP, unlike many reissues, sounds fantastic because they did it right and sourced it from the original tapes. If you’re unfamiliar with DISARRAY, they were active in the Sendai, JAPAN hardcore scene from 1982 through 1986. Like most other JAPANESE HARDCORE from this era, they released things in very low numbers and tracking down all the releases can get very expensive. This LP rips from start to finish: very much in the Discharge and Burning Spirits vein and executed as well as any of the other bands we’ve all come to adore. FEATURED DISTRO ITEMS Venom P Stinger - "Walking About" b/w "26mg" 7" Goddammit if the summer heat doesn't make me wanna lay waste to everything in my surroundings. I get agitated. I feel self-destructive. Unhinged. Venom P Stinger is the perfect complement to this feeling and this 7" single is the perfect two song, one-two punch. And the lyrics! "<em>They've got the car. They've got the house. They've got the keys to my door, I can't get out. </em><em>They've got a game where I'm the mouse, while they're beating my brains in and smashing my face around. There's gonna be a day when I'll be walking about while they're sitting at home. Wasting my time. I'M COMING HOME, YOUR'S NOT MINE!</em>" If that isn't a perfect punk song... Here's a proper write up, since we couldn't say it any better: "<span style="color: #000000;">Bone-rattling Aussie punk shots from a pre-Dirty Three Mick Turner and Jim White with feral singer Dugald McKenzie and bass player, Alan Secher-Jensen. Venom P. Stinger attacked in a modified, somewhat streamlined hardcore punk style, with Mick’s burnt-and-twisted guitar tone setting them apart. Also unique was Jim White’s drumming, which appeared to be born of a drum roll that grows and grows until it has eclipsed the entire kit, played with casual aplomb while never sparing the rod to any aimed-for surface. Meanwhile, bassist Alan Secher-Jensen nailed these loosely divergent styles together with nice heavy root notes." VIEW ALL THREE VENOM P STINGER RELEASES WE HAVE IN STOCK HERE ORDER WALKING ABOUT HERE Panic "13" LP This Dutch masterpiece is in league with the early IVY GREEN, RAXOLA, HUBBLE BUBBLE, and THE PACK records. Panic's debut release from 1978, simply titled '13' was reissued by Sing Sing, likely because of the hefty price tag that it took to own an original. <span style="color: #000000;">The album was originally released on red vinyl by Universe and then again later by Ariola on classic black. The reissue also comes on black vinyl, but it comes in a gatefold with a Big Peter poster [the same one that's on the cover up there] Really though, this record’s a gem and worth scooping. As vulgar as The Sex Pistols but more rock and roll and unique sounding than a lot of bands around that time. ORDER HERE V/A "This is Boston, Not L.A." Every scene has it’s own classic compilation record and, in our opinion, this is the best document of a hardcore punk scene in it's infancy. This comp culled together the best and brightest of the early Boston punk and hardcore scene. Nearly all the venerated Boston bands are represented here: The Freeze, F.U.’s, Gang Green, Jerry’s Kids, The Prolietariat, The Decadance, and The Groinoids. In total, this LP has 30 tracks and every single one is a ripper. These are nice too; you get a full reproduction of the original cover and insert. Classic stuff here. ORDER HERE Long Knife - "Possession" 7" Great follow up 7" to the killer LP on Feral Ward. Four new tracks of explosive punk rock that is hard to not compare to 'Kings of Punk' thru 'Feel the Darkness' Poison Idea. Straight up hc filled with nihilistic anger and dark personal lyrics. This four piece stand on their own and have been laying waste to Portland--they're devastating both on record and live. They've been on the East Coast recently and they're following that up with a North American tour in the fall w/ Forward from Japan. ORDER HERE [/b]Arctic Flowers - "Weaver" LP[/b] After last year's excellent "Procession" EP, an EP that showcased the Arctic Flowers' talent for combining the tradition of anarcho/peace punk with a postpunk sensibility, the new "Weaver" LP continues in much the same vein. Just a great mid-tempo punk rock LP that, in true Arctic Flowers fashion, blurs the boundaries between classic punk, postpunk, and early gothic rock. The long-running DIY background of the band's members imparts to the songs an urgency one is not likely to find in the more disingenuous bands trying to hop on the recent goth-punk bandwagon. Weaver is simply an excellent LP. ORDER HERE Wanuy - "Demo" Cassette Demo cassette from this new band out of Peru featuring members of DHK. If you like DHK you'll definitely be into this as well as it has similarly perfect raw production and a simple, straightforward, and catchy take on the classic d-beat sound. ORDER HERE Disarray - "Discography" LP The complete recordings of Japanese punks Disarray. All 24 tracks on this disc are from the official source. From 1982 - 86 Disarray shook the Sendai hard core scene! This LP compiles their 1984 Flexi EP (ADK Records), full '85 EP (Chicken Shit Records) and both self released Cassettes!! Many years in the making and well worth the wait, for fans of Discharge and 80's Japanese punk/hc!!!!! Comes with an 11x22 fold out of rare band photos and more. ORDER HERE Gang Green "Preschool" LP "Pre-school" collects all the studio recordings by this legendary Boston hardcore band between 1982 and 1985, including their 1982 first demo, their 1984 "Sold Out" 7", the 1985 "PMRC Sucks" 12 " EP, and 1985 "Skate to Hell" 7". Say what you want about this band as they went on, but the output in the beginning is as good as any early hardcore band, and this LP compiles all the best stuff. First things first: Burning Kitchen is one of our favorite bands and we are proud to be sharing this material with the world. How the hell do you make a three-sided 7"? Well, we collaborated with our good friend Adam at Telegraph Mastering and included an extra song that plays from the inside out on the "A/B" side. This allowed us to fit the entire 5-song session on one 7" in a way where it still sounds great. The "CRUDE EP" is the latest release by the Massachusetts punk quartet and it serves as a follow-up to a previously released demo, a "s/t" 7" EP, and a series of split releases, including a split flexi with G.A.S.H, a split cassette with TINITUS, and a split 7" with San Francisco's MIDNITE BRAIN. This LP picks right back up where they finished: fast hardcore that is equally influenced by the US classics and Scandinavian legends like TOTALITÄR. The music for this record was recorded in just under an hour (!!!) and the music is exactly what you would expect from a band comprised of members of HERATYS, INSTITUTION, AGENT ATTITUDE, NITAD, and VREDESMORD. STUN EVENT “S/T” 7” Anyone who loves OUT COLD like we do, knows that they were one of a few bands playing traditional hardcore punk in the dark years when people were going crazy for utter shit like Lagwagon and Mustard Plug. So, when we got the chance to work with ex-OUT COLD drummer, John Evicci, on the OBLIVIONATION 7”, we were beyond excited. Then out of the blue, John wrote us last winter asking if we wanted to release his new band STUN EVENT. When he explained that it was three ex-members of Out Cold, we got a little giddy. Then he sent the tracks and… well, listen for yourself: [bandcamp]track=2814528902[/bandcamp] Here’s the short version of the story: Kevin Mertins had been the original singer for OUT COLD and he rejoined the band on vocals in order to help them complete their final recordings (A Heated Display) after the tragic passing of the band's primary songwriter: Mark Sheehan. After their collaboration on A Heated Display, John and Kevin decided to start a new project, and they included John's brother, Fred (another OUT COLD alumnus). These six songs are the first recording from the band. Musically, STUN EVENT provides a fresh take on a genre that can be predictably derivative. The familiar elements are there but they're executed in such a way that the maturity of the musicianship and songwriting comes through. There are nods to early punk influences from disparate and somewhat unexpected sources: like THE FIX or NEGATIVE APPROACH playing "Paranoid Time" but the end result is all their own. LABEL NEWS THE NUKES are the most patient and understanding band in the world. We've been trying for OVER A YEAR (!!!) to get their Fascist Perverts 7" pressed and after three mispressings and multiple problems, we are again waiting for their record to see the light of day. That record rules and we're told it shouldn't be too much longer until we have copies to share with all of you. RAW NERVES are playing Deadfest in Oakland this weekend. They play Saturday at 10:30pm in the main room. If you live in that area, or if you are traveling for Deadfest, don't miss them. In the meantime, they've been writing like crazy and they returned awhile ago from a tour of the midwest/east coast with CONCRETE CROSS and OBLIVIONATION. We're putting out the new AGENT ATTITUDE record called, "Deranged Realities". In anticipation and in support of the record, they will be touring Europe in September and October 2014 and the U.S. in February/March/April 2015. We've added the European dates to the "Tour" section of our website. More details to come on the U.S. dates. VÅNNA INGET is also making plans to come back to the U.S. More details when we have them. We should have test presses for a new NO MORE ART LP any day now. Expect this one to hit in October or November. NMA is also gearing up to record for their side of an upcoming split with the RED DONS that will be released on Man In Decline. We're beyond stoked for that, as we LOVE the RED DONS and NMA and that pairing makes so much sense. More on that one later... DAMAGED HEAD is also making plans to tour the U.S. It's looking like it will be spring 2015, most likely. In the meantime, the riff/song machine that is that band keeps kicking out the jams and they're scheduled to record with Kenko again in October. This time, they're recording for a split with Diagnosis Bastard that's due out in winter 2015. OBLIVIONATION is getting plans together to tour Scandinavia (and possibly other parts of Europe) in March 2015. Their new LP is out on Hardware Records in Europe. You might be deaf if you don't like it. We also had a second press, including color vinyl, of the OBLIVIONATION 7" that we were supposed to launch with the unsellable NUKES records mentioned above, so keep an eye out for more color copies of Cult of Culture to hit around the same time as THE NUKES. BURNING KITCHEN is wrapping up the mixing and mastering for an LP of 10 new songs--they're first new recordings in 14 years. The record is titled "Det Längtande Djuret", which roughly translates to "The longing animal", which is a term for the deliberate creation of consumers who are never content with what they own. Expect Det Längtande Djuret to be released in either late-2014 or early 2015. We can honestly say that this is some of their strongest material yet. In other BK news, they are scheduled to play "Fun in the UA Fest" in November and they'll participate on the next "Less Bank More World" comp. We also sent off the new ИO​/​/​/​sé LP called "Lower Berth" to the pressing plant last week. For those of you unfamiliar with ИO​/​/​/​sé, they released an excellent LP a couple of years ago and recently released a 7" on 1859 Records, with whom we're coreleasing the LP. This band features ex-members of GLASS & ASHES, YOUNG LIVERS, and guitarist Mike Carter even did a stint in YOUTH BRIGADE (yeah, that Youth Brigade). To our ears, they sound like a cross between G&A and YL mixed with more melodic and straightforward KBD punk. Think downstroke picking, gang choruses, catchy melodies, etc. Tracks to be posted soon.
