I don't see any problem swapping discs to build what you want as long as the buyer of whatever you are getting rid of knows what they are getting into. I've often thought about doing the same thing for somewhat opposite reasons (wanting black vinyl discs in my boxset, instead of whatever color variant they originally came with).

Unwound Discography Repress

Dude, Derek. Fix this. (admittedly, I still need to pick up Empire. Not my favorite material, but still...) -
PO Now: Amenra - De Doorn (6/25/2021)
throwgncpr replied to zaoza's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
I just A/B'd both versions on my setup. I may be in the minority, but I strongly prefer version 1. The original release has a heavier handed production, with tasteful reverb soaking over everything to give the album a foggy atmospheric feeling which I feel suits the material really well. Version 2 is much lighter on the production, with the drums feeling more raw and vocals cutting through the middle a little more. I don't feel that either mix is objectively better than the other, but they definitely offer different vibes. I'm glad I picked up both, but version 1 is probably going to be my go-to. -
PO Now: Grouper - Shade (10/22)

Liz dropped a new Raum album today: https://grouper.bandcamp.com/album/daughter The special edition (gold leaf on insert) sold out before I even knew it was up. The only difference is the insert though. -
Soon? The Mars Volta

ha! I'm going to pass on any glow-in-the-dark records, and I would be highly suspicious of any positive review unless it was from someone I trusted. There are all kinds of glowing reviews for crappy bootlegs and awful sounding records on Discogs... I still haven't picked any of these up. I would love to grab Tremulant/De-Louse/Frances at some point, but the prices and the way they are trickling out variants are enough to make me lose any motivation. -

I didn't mean to help dredge up another black vs. color debate. It's a tired argument. I don't really care what people like/purchase. I wish there were always a black copy available, but I realize this is a weird/fickle industry. I did think that McPherson was genuinely curious about audio issues. 34 pages in and I can't remember exactly, but I thought there were some pressing issues with one or more of these releases at some point in the discussion. -

subjective. Many color presses look worse than a nice black copy, imo. -
PO Now: Cloakroom - Dissolution Wave
throwgncpr replied to highfives's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Agreed. This album is really good. Time Well was good, but I didn't connect with it as much as Further Out. I'm totally loving this though -
PO Now: Cloakroom - Dissolution Wave

Cloakroom rules, but I agree with Derek. There are so many boring, derivative bands in the shoegaze/post-rock/gumbo-core threads that people fawn over... -
Vagrant 25 Years Vinyl Represses

On a Wire is fantastic. Outside of 4mm, it's probably the album I listen to the most. -
PO Now: Amenra - De Doorn (6/25/2021)

There were two mixes of Mass VI, so this shouldn't be a big surprise... -
PO: Pedro The Lion - Havasu LP
throwgncpr replied to dreamover's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Phoenix definitely colored my reaction. I love that album so much; everything about it is perfect. I assumed that he would connect it thematically, but probably do something different in terms of production and vibe. My assumptions were largely correct, but like I said, we'll see how this sits after more listens. Regardless, I expect the third entry to be different than both Phoenix and Havasu.
