  5. So I felt like doing something kind of fun to give back to the VC community. This is a simple game/contest with no strings attached. Below is a portion of an album cover. The first to name the band AND album title wins a copy (+ random extras) from me. You don't have to pay anything. Just be grateful. I do ask, however, that if you think you know which album it is but have no interest in owning it due to not having an interest in the music or already owning a copy, don't spoil it for others who would genuinely like to add it to their collection. I will reveal the pressing info once a winner is declared. RULES: Just to ensure this doesn't go to a lurker, because I'd feel better if this went to an at least somewhat active VCer, the only requirement for entering is that you have a minimum of 300 posts and/or 5 positive feedback. If this goes without a hitch, I'll likely do more of these in the future. I will give only one hint: the album was released within the last 3 years.
  6. Wow..did not see this coming at the end of Apple's press conference....wonder if the vinyl makes an appearance at BFRSD: "Apple®, Universal Music Group and legendary rock band U2 today announced the release of the album “Songs of Innocence,” which Apple is gifting to iTunes Store® customers around the world, making it the largest album release ever with over half a billion copies distributed. The album features 11 new songs from the band and charts their earliest influences from 70s rock and punk rock to early 80s electronica and soul. The album is free for iTunes Store account holders in 119 countries and is available exclusively on iTunes® for the next five weeks. “From the very beginning U2 have always wanted our music to reach as many people as possible, the clue is in our name I suppose—so today is kind of mind-blowing to us. The most personal album we’ve written could be shared with half a billion people… by hitting send. If only songwriting was that easy,” said U2 lead singer Bono. “It’s exciting and humbling to think that people who don’t know U2 or listen to rock music for that matter might check us out. Working with Apple is always a blast. They only want to do things that haven’t been done before—that’s a thrill to be part of.” “U2 has been an important part of Apple’s history in music and we’re thrilled to make ‘Songs of Innocence’ the largest album release ever,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. “We get to share our love of music today by gifting this great new album to over half a billion iTunes customers around the world.” “Songs of Innocence” features 11 new songs from the band and is their most personal work to date, charting their earliest influences from 70s rock and punk rock to early 80s electronica and soul and giving insight into how and why the band came together and the relationships in and around them, their family and friendships. Recorded in New York, London, Los Angeles and Dublin the album is produced by Danger Mouse, along with Paul Epworth, Ryan Tedder, Declan Gaffney and Flood. Apple is gifting “Songs of Innocence” to iTunes Store account holders.* Customers who sign up for an iTunes Store account in the next five weeks will get the album as a gift. “Songs of Innocence” is also available to stream via iTunes Radio℠ and will be available on Beats Music℠. Apple and U2 share a special connection in music. U2 was an important partner for the opening of the iTunes Store in 2003. Apple worked with U2 on the iPod® U2 Special Edition and created “The Complete U2” box set together. U2 continues to be one of the most popular bands ever on the iTunes Store. Apple has partnered with Bono and (RED) to fight for an AIDS-free generation by creating (PRODUCT)RED merchandise. More than $75 million has been generated by Apple for the Global Fund. * “Songs of Innocence” is available to iTunes Store customers in the 119 countries featuring a music store, with an active account, and who are 13 years or older (or the equivalent minimum age in the relevant jurisdiction)."

  8. So in honor of my 1,000th post (this very one) I am giving away a record (thanks to captainaldous who did this recently and gave me the idea). I recently won a free LP from a contest on here and thought I'd pay back the favor. The album will be of the Punk Rock variety, so if that genre doesn't interest you then please dodn't post as I'd like to give this to someone who will listen to it. Also I will pay for the shipping. Here are the rules to enter: You must have over 250 posts (sorry newcomers, stick around and you'll get there). Tell me about the best concert you've ever been to and why it was the best. Tell me your favorite album that you own. And lastly tell me what your first vinyl purchase was and when you first started collecting. I will pick a winner at random at 5PM CST on Friday 6/5/14 (tomorrow). Good luck everyone
  9. Hey guys! For my 1000th post, I thought I'd do something a little nice. This board has given me a lot and I feel like I should give back a little. So here is whats up: I will accept the first 20 names and choose the winner at random You must have at least 350 posts to enter To enter, all you have to do is post on this thread about a record that meant a lot to you that you got because of this board, whether you bought it from someone specific or just from someone posting about it on the message board. I will list three records tonight that the winner can choose which one she or he likes! I will cover the winner's shipping. The records won't be of significant value, but will definitely be cool. Plus its free, so ya know, whatever. Have at it, y'all!
  10. ***ENTRIES ARE NOW CLOSED. OUR WINNER IS DANIONLY! THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATED, WE SHOULD FIND OUT LATER TODAY IF WE MADE IT TO THE NEXT ROUND.*** Hey guys, So my band is currently in a contest to get a chance to play at Earthfest in Boston in front of literally hundreds of thousands of people. In order to advance to the next round we need people to vote for us over at the below link: http://www.myradio929.com/local929/ You need to make an account (sorry) and then vote for my band, Big Bad Bobby and the Shoe Horns. As a show of my eternal gratitude just post here saying you voted (hooray for the honor system) and a link to any record you would like as long as it's value is under $25 USD. Non-US people are more than eligible to play, but please link me to something that ships from within your home country. I will pick one winner from those who voted and I will make the drawing tomorrow morning (4/29) around 9 am EST. I kind of slept on this and the deadline is tonight at midnight, so VOTE and who knows, you could win the free record of your choice. We can both help each other out. Lastly, here's a link to what we sound like if that sways you at all.
  11. as part of my attempt to recreate the VMLive Series of recordings that took place in chicago during the mid-90s, i have been taking my recorder around to a bunch of live shows in the city over the past year. when they turn out cool and the band or artist is into it, we release them for free download together. today, Issue #3 is released. it features Devon Kay (of Devon Kay & The Solutions, Direct Hit!, and The Fur Coats fame) playing solo and acoustic at Café Mustache. 10 songs, including some originals, some covers, and some alternate versions. it's a really fun set where you can hear the crowd singing along and the coffee machines in the background throughout. an old VC friend of mine named Errol did the mastering on these tracks, and has done a bunch of mastering for my label over the past year. he's an awesome dude who does great work. you can stream it on the site, but if you download the set, you'll get a digital booklet with some bonus info and pictures from that night and the mission statement of the A.I.R. Presents... series, so keep that in mind. head on over to www.artisticintegrityrecords.bandcamp.com to download Devon's set and a bunch of other awesome stuff for free. there are also a ton of great prints available and some other stuff in the merch section, so check that out while you're browsing and listening. the releases in this series so far* have been: # 1 - Purple # 2 - Mikey Erg** # 3 - Devon Kay *there are lots more that will be released throughout 2014 and beyond, so always keep checking back. i do all my releases on double dates (3/3, 4/4, 5/5, etc.) to make it easier for everybody to remember when shit's coming out. if you want to stay updated, LIKE us on facebook! **the mikey erg release is available for free download, and the physical CDs should be in within the next week. the original copies came in about a month ago, but the first batch that were printed up had a skip during one of the tracks on every single CD, so i had to have them re-made. it stinks, but sometimes those types of things are unavoidable. the wait will be worth it, hopefully.

I decided to write, record and release a new project titled "Bells & Whistles" and give it away to all of you for free/pay-what-you want download on Bandcamp. 22. first and foremost, happy new year! i hope all of you had an incredible evening to cap off 2012, and start 2013 off with a bang. today is the big release date for the covers compilation i've been putting together for the past month or so. because i'm a numbers weirdo who loves michael jordan, there's 23 tracks on this bad boy. lots of bands from chicago who i've had the pleasure of becoming friends with over the past year, but also lots of bands from all over the country, and even one from Canada (that's right, baby, AIR is going international in 2013!). to actually download this bad boy, go to www.artisticintegrityrecords.com, click on the tab labeled "Downloads." it will be the very first thing available for download on the page, so just click the "Download Album" button, enter your e-mail address, and you should have a link waiting for you in your inbox faster than you can say "blueberry pie." maybe not that fast. but pretty fast, okay? if it's not in your inbox, check your spam folder. the e-mail will have a link to download a zip folder. once that downloads, you'll have 23 new tracks to sing along with, as well as a digital CD booklet detailing which bands are covering which songs. this comp is absolutely, positively FREE to download. hopefully there are a few bands on here that you're already familiar with, but i hope even more to expose you to a bunch of new bands you've never heard before. my favorite thing about music is going to shows and seeing a new band and having them blow me away. i know sometimes it's hard for a band's energy and charisma to translate into a recording, but i honestly feel like all of these tracks do the bands who performed them justice. please feel free to share the link with your friends or anybody else you think may enjoy this. here's the tracklisting for AIR-004, "We've Got You Covered, Vol. 1": 1.
