  3. First i will introduced myself. I'm Gregor and I'm the owner of Sound of Subterrania a DIY-label from germany. I really like making special editions and maybe people in this forum like my work too: here the link for seeing "live": http://youtu.be/NbDsp-OzTJU You can contemplate a lot about/around/on a Special Edition. Nowadays, it is often enough, to change the colour of the vinyl to add surplus value to the sound carrier. Artificial scarcity to create additional demand apparently works out excellent – but it just symbolises a petty capitalist bourgeois way of life. Anyway, in my opinion it should be a matter of much, much more. For my share, do-it-yourself as such means to cut a better figure than the mainstream: to develop ideas, to realise dreams, to create something that has added value in its active approach, but first and foremost: not to get co-opted. And that’s just the way, this record was created. From the germ of the idea right up to the finished record, it was a long and arduous, but at the same time beautiful journey which I’d never have completed without the hands-on aid of Matthias, Mark, Bauer and Adolf. A tremendous “thank you” to all of you! I don’t want to bore you with all the details (cover artwork as a 15-piece sliding puzzle with negative-3D-CNC-milled woodcarving, applied materials, about 47m² three-layer multilaminar birch veneer with a black melamine resin laminated panel, 26580 lines of CNC-program to mill the artwork, engraved back-cover-artwork, about 200 hours of manual time, ca. 6.5 km of toolpaths and 1.1 km of slots plus 2300 units of stainless steel 3x16 Torx screws), but it’s precisely this attention to detail which makes all the difference. To me, the work on the Special Edition substitutionary stands for the work of all the people who actively shape the so-called subculture, thus who consistently organise concerts, cook food for the bands, clean the scruffy toilets afterwards, yadda-yadda-yadda… It was never about mere records, but rather it was always about the idea. DIY actually means “do-it-yourself” and not “let others do the work for you”. Do-it-yourself is my attempt to overcome structures which already established themselves in our milieu. To me, the Monsters – with the Beat-Man leading the way – were one initial momentum to think about music and the coherent business the way I think about it now. The unconditional commitment to a cause which means “Trash” to most people, but basically is the birth of free thought in modern culture, touched, riveted and motivated me to seek my own way. Therefore I thank the Beat-Man, the Monsters and all those, who jointly tread this path along with me. Gregor
