Alignment issue when automation is used on AT LP-60 turntable

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, so I've had an Audio Technica LP-60 turntable for several years now and I've never really had any issues, but the past couple month's it's been giving me trouble. It still operates perfectly fine with manual operation, but when using the automation there is an issue.

So i'll press start, and the platter starts spinning, and tone arm will lift up and move over the record, but when it sets it down, it always does so about 1-2cm short of the records edge. Anyone have any ideas or experience with fixing this? Or do I just need to deal with it, or get a new player? Thanks.

You might be lucky but unless it's obvious I doubt it will be easy to fix, these things are designed to a cost and made to be put together not taken apart and repaired.

For the obvious there must be some form of sensor or mechanical check for it to know where to drop the arm so I would assume this must have moved. If it's a sensor it may just have got dirty of course so you look at that but if it's mechanical that would be inside.

One question though, if you let it run in auto does it end early as well? I guess the arm could have moved on it's mount point over time I guess.

hmmm, im not sure. I dont let it run auto, because if i do, it goes down onto the slipmat and creates an awful noise, and i'm sure fucks up the needle too. later today i'll trade running it on auto, but bump it over onto the record and see if it ends earlier than its supposed to. thanks for the suggestion.
