Dragonwarriorx
I currently have a project debut carbon with a 2m blue. Would it be a waste of money to upgrade to the bronze cartridge with this table? Appreciate the insight!
youspinmeround
The cartridge is more than the turntable....I dont think your price point upgrade from blue on this turntable is going to show anything I rock the blue on my turntable and I cant imagine much of an upgrade working on my system
arem
I'm going to assume that if the cart costs more than your table you probably don't have high end speakers or amplification either. In which case your system probably can't resolve enough difference to be worth spending the money. I have the Blue on my Tech 1210 and love it. allenh
You can just replace the stylus the body is the same for all the 2m's

ajxd
I will say... I've had the Blue for about 2 years now. I like it less and less.
allenh
Not true- Red/Blue are the same, Bronze/Black are the same. I stand corrected, thought they were the same, oh well you live and learn I will say... I've had the Blue for about 2 years now. I like it less and less. I've never had one (hence the mistake) but I've heard a good few say they are a bit on the bright side
mcguirk
The nice thing about that is you can add a shim or double up your mat and still be OK on a Project.
steviex2shoes
Why are you using a shim? That doesn't seem right...
allenh
Why are you using a shim? That doesn't seem right... Because turntables like most Projects and Rega's don’t have any VTA adjustment on the arm and you have to be inventive if you want or need to adjust it. nothnks
Howdy, got the Debut Carbon with the 2m Red about a month ago, and I listen to records almost every day. When should I consider replacing the stylus, and where would be the best place to buy?

biodigitaljazz
Not going for a dumb question here, how do you measure that? Do you keep a tally written by your table? nothnks

ajxd
Estimate. 1000hr x 60 = 60,000 mins. Average LP length ~40 mins. So say you listen to 5 LPs a day @ ~200 mins. 60,000/200= 300 days. Will you listen to records every day? Nope. Will you listen to 5 LPs a day? Probably not. So a year or two, depending on how much you listen. Tardcore
the real question is...How much money could I make by creating an "audiophile" laser revolution counter to track needle usage/life. nothnks
ajxd
None. It wouldn't be applicable/way too much work. Plus I bet most audiophiles upgrade/swap their cartridges way before they're making bad sounds. Create an item that can tell how long a stylus has made connection with a record by pressure. People do fall asleep/forget they are listening to records.
Tardcore
not sure it would be all that much work. there are already devices that measure the speed of a platter. once you know how fast it's moving, it's just a matter of tracking the number of revolutions and then some method of telling whether or not the stylus is engaged to get total travel/use time. As far as telling whether or not the styus has made connection, that shouldn't be too hard either right? a sloppy method would be to look at the position of the tone arm. better method might be to monitor the cart output and just track time. antoniofhowe
Not true- Red/Blue are the same, Bronze/Black are the same. Man I wish I had read this yesterday! I had a 2M Red on my Debut Carbon and went out and purchased the 2M Blue... then spent a good three hours swapping them and trying to get it aligned properly. Are you seriously saying all I had to do was swap the stylus unit? Hahaha For the record, the Blue sounds amazing! Now I just need to upgrade my Polk Audio TSi200's Cloudsbelow

Cloudsbelow
I will say... I've had the Blue for about 2 years now. I like it less and less. had the red, liked it enough. Last few months I liked it less and less. IGD became more apparent (to me) and I felt like a slight step up in price would be worth it. Picked up the blue stylus a few months ago, dig it. Improves on the reds faults, improves but doesnt solve. Looking forward to the bronze in a year or two.
