A release of The River that actually sounds good would be simply incredible. I am definitely not holding my breath. People will probably get excited about Nebraska too, but there's not too much they can do to that one. Maybe make it louder, but I'm not sure I'd want to hear it that way.

I've spent the last year trying to find good copy's of these albums. The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle is the only album I haven't found yet. I found a sealed copy of The River for $5. I also got one the of the 'Not for sale' promo copy's of Darkness on the Edge of Town. Every album I have is in excellent condition except some of the packing is roughed up but I kind of like that. I don't know yet if I'll buy this box set. I'll probably will.

What they really need to repress are The Ghost of Tom Joad and Devils and Dust!

And 18 Tracks, and The Rising.

I'm a huge Bruce fan, but all these albums can be found for under $10. I'm sure these will sell well to casual fans who don't want to buy anything used, but it's frustrating that his under appreciated 90s & 2000s material will remain out of print while LPs that collectively sold tens of millions of copies are getting reissued.

Neil Young has a similar problem - the way his Archive Series is going, he'll be long dead before I can own Harvest Moon on vinyl. Meanwhile, I just picked up a beautiful copy of Harvest for less than half the price of the reissue.

Truth you speak.

This. Especially with 18 Tracks

Man, forget 18 Tracks. The whole Tracks set needs a vinyl treatment. Minus some of the 4th disc, that box is gold.

Also, gotta disagree with the argument that these are all widely available for nextt to nothing. That might have been true a few years ago. You could go into any record store and find copies of all his pre-90s stuff for a few bucks. But that's not really the case anymore with some of these. Nebraska is a lot more rare these days. Even BITUSA is tough to find. Maybe it's just in the NJ/NYC market, but I don't think a lot of these are anywhere near as common as they once were with the exception of maybe Born To Run and The River.

Maybe that's a Jersy problem?  Greetings and Nebraska not as much, but I see the others pretty much weekly.  And I certiainly see Greetings and Nebraska often enough that it wouldn't be hard to get a copy.

I know I've seen similar messages on other artists (eg "I see used Pink Floyd all the time") that are fairly rare here.  So maybe it's a region-by-region thing.

My issue with vintage Springsteen vinyl is that Columbia (and Bruce's own camp) just didn't take that much care with the pressings. I actually picked up a SEALED copy of Nebraska recently... and it was STILL noisy. Not terribly so, but that shows you that these weren't top-quality pressings back in the day.

Tunnel Of Love (not in this set) actually sounds amazing on vinyl, even though it's far from my favorite Bruce album. They did that one right. The first two sound decent, ditto BITUSA (aside from that 80s production). BTR has always sounded muddy to me (although the rare first pressings supposedly sound much better). Darkness is good but not a sonic marvel, and The River is VERY trebly. (Although way better than the current CD.) And I mentioned Nebraska.

So basically, if the reviews come in and these new masterings trump the OPs (unlikely, but you never know), I might have to lighten my wallet. But otherwise...

Yeah, I've seen a $5 copy of BITUSA at every record store in the Twin Cities. That album is 15x platinum, I think at one point I had 3 copies just by accident. Come to Minneapolis sometime and you can pick up everything through Tunnel of Love for about $70.

I would also love a full Tracks release. And yeah, I'm going to go out on a limb and say Brothers Under the Bridge is the only song on disc 4 that I can listen to. Happy might be the worst song he's ever written.
