toomanyrecords
Just curious on a person to person basis. I don't own too many. Feel free to post which ones you own ITT... I have Wild Child - The Runaround of Montreal - An Introduction to of Montreal and I'll be receiving the If These Trees Can Talk - S/T and AtE,BtS test press as well I've spun the WC one once, and the of Montreal one 0 times - and I want to spin the ITTCT one but I'm wondering if I should just hold onto it as a collector's item and try to snag one of the orange/blues at a show if they come to LA. parkinglot
Not if I have a normal pressing. Derrick sent me a twiabp test press, and the record hasn't been released yet, so I've spun that quite a few times. chriswamsley
futures
I've been under the impression that if it's an approved test, then its fine to play. If it's an unapproved/rejected test, there might be something stuck in the grooves or some other issue that might make your needle jump or something. That kinda thing would make me wary of playing it.
The Vool
I play them to ensure a faultless press... tape, FangsAnalSatan and anthemforadoomed

overdue
Well, if I want to approve them, I've got to. Wocka wocka wocka. But seriously, if I have a production pressing, that's usually what I listen to. And there's nothing wrong with listening to a rejected test, it's not always a physical defect. Champion's Promises Kept had a mix the band didn't like.
futures
I think Kessy is thinking of playing tests as someone who isn't approving them for a label. & That's true that it's not always a physical defect, but as someone who buys/wins/obtains a test outside of the label, we wouldn't really know for sure what the defect is - physical or not. But I'm not very well versed in tests. I only have 1, and my 2nd is on its way to me at the moment.

jtcohenour
I play them when I initially receive them and then just play the regular pressing of the album
chamb117
i only owned a test press of daggermouth's turf wars for a long time, so that's what i spun. it's really one of the only tests i own, too. small sample size.

CardboardDoom
I only have one, it's of After the Disco by Broken Bells. I was waiting until I got the vinyl to listen to it for the first time. So when I got the test press a week before the release you can bet I played the test up until I got my retail copy in the mail.
smeepo
If I owned a test press, I'd probably play it. Passively, of course.
iron666monkey
Last couple of test presses I got I ended up throwing away. They're only good for testing. Once the testing is done, what's the point of keeping it around? eskimosnow27, nancy_raygun, Metal Mike and 1 other
scottyrobotty
I play one because I don't have a regular version. I don't play another because I do have a regular version. I don't play the other two because I don't like them.

ok.
Generally if I own a test press then I also own a normal press as well, so I'll play that instead. I have the acetate for the Mikey Erg/Alex Kerns split that I will never play. jtcohenour
Emo Revival
Of course, however I've only ever spun my acetates once and won't again
