One Hundred Fifty-Two
Look at how taxes work. If you hold something for over a year it is considered a long term gain and is taxed at a lower level than something that is held for less than a year. If you don't see the difference you are an idiot.

toomanyrecords
For example, the reason I have almost -500 on my profile is because back in the day, I bought a TDAGARIM red /666 copy for 80 bucks, thinking that another copy I ordered for face value didn't come through. Turns out, they both did. I then tried to unload my $80 one, what I paid, and I was labeled a flipper without any recourse or ability to justify myself and now whenever I post people insult me and call me a flipper. It's my money, I spent it, and it's my item at that point - the fact that people think they can tell me what I can sell it for is literally the most pretentious thing I've ever heard. Billich0986
It's the intention behind the purchase. If you buy with zero intention of listening to the record, only to eat up supply and drive prices up, then you are a flipper. I don't see the hypocrisy here at VC, since the people are buying records to listen to them. jameshays
toomanyrecords
Yeah, that's the ONLY reason. Ho-kay... As a new user I went from 0 to -300 because of that Devil and God thread. My falsified reputation caused my posts and reactions since then to be read in ulterior ways bringing on the other 200. There are lots of people on here who have had wonderful trade interactions with me and I have a handful of PMs in my inbox from people saying that there's no reason people should be shitting on me. It's just a shame there are so many spoiled children running around here with no one telling them they're in the wrong. tvham and rthursdayx

̮ ɤ ̮
And if a record goes down in value? This logic is flawed. Then I sell it for less. What's the problem with it? It's not like I lose any money as I had listened to it while I possessed it.

just a normal guy kevin
I've sold records for more than I paid for them. I've also sold records for less than I paid. IMO, there is a difference between some dude selling an old OOP LP for more than he paid for it 7 years ago and someone selling a Sufjan clear or Brand New seafoam that they ordered 3 copies of and haven't even received in the mail yet. Also, I don't necessarily think there is a Golden rule where you must sell all LPs at cost or loss but I think people who do so are doing the Lord's work. In general, I feel like context and the manner in which the seller presents their item can make a big difference whether they come across as selling off LPs or flipping records. jameshays, emacs, omik11303 and 3 others
