A discussion about record flippers

Recommended Posts

I have hundreds of sealed albums.

Download codes. I would rather purchase a record with a download code vs a CD. Due to my work schedule most of the listening I do is at work via digital files. It sucks, but I still enjoy collecting and listening at home when I can.

Doubtful, but I am middle aged with an excellent job that allows for a lot of disposable income. I spent a shit ton on my turntable and accessories that I rarely get to use. Someday I will be retired and breaking some seals.

I always love these threads turn into "these type of flippers suck" but "these people who sell stuff for lots of money are ok," aka the what I do is ok but what others do that prevent me from getting something I want is shitty.

I think the people who buy records they think are going to be valuable and keep them sealed nicely sitting on a shelf are just as bad as the person who buys it and puts it right up in ebay. Really what is the point of keeping a record sealed other to maintain value to sell later or to keep as a trophy. At least with a short term flipper someone might buy it to actually listen to it and enjoy it.

I agree. This also applies to toys, amiibos, actions figures, pop funko figures, etc, they have their own ebay flipping and collector pricing.

And who the fuck buys records for art pieces and a physical...

Fuck it, I can't even finish that sentence. Jesus fucking christ.

You're so much better than everyone, aren't you? Let people do what makes them happy. It's their lives and possessions, not yours. There are way worse people than the kind of person I described in this world - put your anger towards them.

I made a comment similar in the Daft Punk thread, but some people seem to confused as to the definition of what flipping is.

Flipping is buying and then reselling something in the short term. People reselling those Red House Painter boxes before the individual reissues hit, that's flipping.

Selling a record that's been OOP for a few years isn't. Assuming you are selling where the market is, that's just selling. Maybe you can call it gouging, but it's not flipping. I only bring up the semantics because it would resolve a bit of the debate in the thread about what is considered flipping and whats not.
