I'll through this out there too, though I didn't ask the other guys.

If you DON'T know how to play poker, but you are interested in joining, we can use tonight to help you get a fix on it.

Yeah this is a good idea. Jumping into a *possible* game where cash is on the line and NOT knowing how to play...might be one of the most annoying things ever. I'v hosted many a bar games for cash when drunk fucks will step in claiming to understand the game and just totally shit the bed. Not cool.

You can teach me tonight.

Math major and math enthusiast here who would like to learn.

It's all about calculating your odds. And knowing what cards you need to make your hand..given you think you are behind in a certain situation.

Heres a very broken down easy example.

You have 10/Jack of clubs.

The flop has 2 clubs on it. You need another club to complete a flush. What are your odds on the turn and on the river?

There are 13 cards for every suit. You have 4 of them currently so there are 9 left.

After the flop you can do a simple X 4 to learn your percentage going into the turn. So 9 x 4 = you have roughly a 36% chance of making a flush.

That ratio goes down if you miss a club on the turn. Now going into the river you do 9 x 2 = you have roughly an 18% chance of making your flush.

This all comes into play with the size of the pot also and pot odds. Taking those percentages and turning them into odds based on the bet sizes of the pot that you are in. If the pot is currently $40 of play money and some makes a pot sized bet into you of $40 and you have a 36% chance. You aren't getting good enough pot odds to make a call and chase a flush you may not hit. If they bet half the pot ($20) you're usually getting 2 to 1 on your money to continue and chase your cards.

Thats just the way that I see poker. It doesn't help me one bit when I sit at a table with people that aren't thinking about the game the same way that I am. I tend to do better taking a grand to a casino and playing a high limit game with other players that think a little more similar than I do. It's always fun and a challenge for me personally to play with people that don't think like me and to alter my game to a different thought process and try to out play them.

I have studied poker for wayyyyy too long.

I'm curious about the math behind multiplying the amount of cards in [suit] by four to get a percentage. If there's nine cards your interested in, dividing 9 by (52 subtracted by how many cards are not in the deck) should give you the percentage... And then there's the possibility of other people having [suit] in their hand. Not doubting your methods, as you've been playing this for much longer than I have, but in order for 9/x to equal 36%, there needs to be 25 cards -- less than half of the deck -- to draw from, assuming no other players have [suit].

Those percentages are based on that all 9 cards are still in possible play of hitting the table. You don't ever really calculate what could be in someone else's hand. It's a good thing to think about, but doesn't go into the calculation.

But still, if there's 3 cards in the flop, and 9x2 = 18 cards in people's hands, that's 21 cards out of play, and 52 - 21 = 31, 9/31 is <36% :B

Again, that's just what's going through my head. Not doubting your method.

I totallllly get it. Why do you not calculate whats in other peoples hands? I don't know. Poker has been around for a very very long time and that's just the method for that game. If you watch poker on tv and work the percentages on the screen, thats what they are using to figure them. I know its weird and probably fucks with a lot of math guys' heads like yours but thats just the way the cookie crumbles I guess. Figure out a better way and have an edge on me! I'm into it.

Here is the instruction you need to get signed up to play with us. I have already 'created' the tournament for tonights free run trail. So anyone playing needs to sign up on poker stars and then also register for the tournament. It will be starting at 8PMEST. This is tournament style. Playing down from 9 or so players to only 1 remaining. If/WHEN real money is involved there will be payouts for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers.

For tonights game I have set the starting chip stacks at 3K. Blinds go up every 15 minutes. And there will be a few breaks to make additional tacos. As I am the mod on the actual poker stars client all I have to do on my end is accept your request to join the club on the app and then you guys just need to register for the tournament I have created. So get to it if you're in for tonight!

Also, the "home game" feature that we are using to play this is only accessible through a PC/Mac. You wont be able to run this software off of your mobile device or tablet.

I canNOT find the Join a Poker Club Button
