Discussion on VC Manners

Recommended Posts

I'm starting this thread because I honestly care about VC, even though I only started reading it recently, theres some great people on here that enjoy the same music I do, and those that have great suggestions I haven't heard.

Nonetheless, in another unnamed thread *ehemmm* people somehow got offended that I told them to be nice. Who would have thought being nice is so hard for some people....

So without diving deeper into the details, how can we ensure that VC stay only a positive/supportive place?

If this idea doesn't jive well here either I'll just go and be a record collector all on my lonesome. :(((

Much love, Aaron C.

Is this your first time on the internet?

Nope, I just think that if you're not a horrible person in real life, you shouldn't try to be one in internet life.

I know it was a troll thread but the great thing about trolls is that whatever "power" they have is only given by people responding. If you say nothing it's just "Cool story bro....."

VC isn't even a particularly negative place. Ever been to YT comments section or reddit? People get worked up over nothing all the time. If people have something to contribute and don't act like dicks, they won't be treated as such. You reap what you sow.

That sounds like VC. :)

Kinda the same deal with the people you are calling out, no?

Yes and no. Honestly it's the same people that are like "It's a troll, I won't stop until he has no legs and arms." It is funny for like one post because I'm not Sheldon Cooper and I get sarcasm, but 9 pages later, it's a little too overkill.

get an avatar, then we'll talk

Honestly, this forum is the most confusing place to edit signature,  avatar, anything. And I'm lazy.

When I think of trolling I think of someone coming in here and acting like they are one of us, but making fun of the things we tend to obsess over at the same time. Usually you can tell what they are up to. They should be ignored. Obviously the recent dude should be ignored. People that have a genuine question, but just didn't use the search function, should be helped and then the thread locked. Or just not be allowed to start a new thread.

Is this the new wave of the the "please be nice" posts? I remember seeing this a couple years ago and it was insufferable.

I've found this happens with pretty much every forum. Same with the occasional "All these newbs have ruined this place!" threads. Part of a forum's natural life cycle.
