vinyl addict
We obviously have different beliefs. Maybe one day when you guys will grow up you will actually see everything clearly. The news is turning you all into a bunch of powder puffs. I'm outnumbered here in this Kiddie Corner of the internet. I think you guys are just still butt hurt because Bernie didn't get elected. LOL @ letting every Tom Dick and Harry into our country. Yeah, that's a step in the right direction for sure. *I'll check back later to see all the whining responses. It's just called empathy man, I try to see things from other people's perspective and act accordingly. Try it sometime, it feels good. And personally I don't think Bernie was a good option. Shitty Rambo
Can a brown guy chime in? Unpopular opinion: I don't think being racist is the worst thing a person could ever be (I.E. a rapist or murderer is significantly worse). I also don't think people exercising their freedom of association makes them inheritly evil. People tend to gather with other people who look like them, and making a law that insists they need to interact with other people isn't going to curb any ill will they may have towards individuals of different ethnicites. I also have absolutely no problem with someone using their "privilege" to their advantage, inherited or not we're all different people with completely different backgrounds and situations. Some people's lives suck a lot more than others. A poor family on welfare in the US still lives significantly better than a poor family in Sudan does. You can be white and poor, in fact in '07 PBS put out a study that said 41% of the homeless population is white, with the second highest being African Americans at 40%. Since I'm talking statistics, it's worth mentioning that Asian people in American are far better off than most white people (they excel in wealth, education, and even live longer). Does that make them racist? I don't think so (or really care). And yes, you can absolutely be racist towards white people. Demeaning any individual because of the color of their skin is what racism is. You can't just change the definition of a word to fit your agenda. If this level playing field you guys speak of based on the idea that the state should forcibly acquire another individual's property to disperse amongst people who have less then that's terrible. You're advocating for theft via the threat of violence against peaceful individuals. If the level playing field is that everyone in America has the same individual rights and their own personal actions determine what their quality of life will be, then I would agree and also argue that playing field is already in effect. The things that set this off balance are usually products of the state, like The War on Drugs, artifical prices on labor, housing, low incentives for high skilled workers to enter public services like education, etc. You guys really should stop pointing the finger at your neighbor who has little to no power over any of this and start questioning your goverment. If the Puerto Rican guy across the street doesn't like Asian people that's not going to effect anyone's life, but a cop throwing a black or brown man in a cage and taking him away from his family because he had too much of a plant they didn't want him to have drastically impacts his and his family member's lives. Bladewillisisdead
I think most of us are talking about institutionalized racism more so than "so and so doesn't like Asians" That's why "I don't see color" is racist. I guess it's more "enabling of racism" but that's splitting hairs. Insisting that you don't see color works to invalidate people working to address problems of racism within the system. I'm really not trying to whitesplain, cause it seems like we're on the same page...I'm just calling a dude out on some bullshit.
Shelby
Nobody is saying apologize for what you were blessed with it's just fucked to ignore your blessings when judging others and passing laws that affect them. The rural and urban areas of this country are far too different from each other to be run under the same set of rules imo anyways. Same shit with white people thinking they're being punished for being white or guilted for being white and the war on Christmas and kneeling for the national anthem... sheep mentality one person heard it from someone else so it's gotta be true fall in line. Social conformity is also the main thing that makes it an us vs. them two party system where you take L' s to the jugular to help your team win. Imagine if Republicans and Libertarians voted for their actual beliefs and interests instead of compromising with each other to form the same team. They won't though because Dems and Socialists shot themselves in the foot not uniting for the person that had a better chance to help their quasi team win. Oblivions
Also a brown guy. I think liberalism and the left and whatever else you want to call that 'side' deserves a ton of pushback and scrutiny, even when it's uncomfortable or confrontational. But I disagree that said push back should be delivered in the form of playing devil's advocate for groups that promote hate or racist ideals or even attitudes that are less sinister/intentional but built on the framework of racist ideals. I'd love to see young, frustrated males on the internet tear Democrats apart for benefitting from corruption and economic inequality while pretending to care about everyone and bring about change in that area. It's a bummer when that passion and frustration is channeled into fighting peers who advocate for minority groups and communities and to perpetuating the idea that empathy is a weakness and flippancy and a lack of empathy is an intellectual strength. Making it safer to be outspokenly racist or rude and safer to perpetuate less overt racist/rude ideas without any challenge will definitely disrupt and frustrate your peers, such as fellow VCers, but it will also lead to a lower quality of life for disadvantaged groups and do absolutely no harm to the people at the top who are truly benefitting from our current system. That said, this is the internet and we are males, so fighting and dick-measuring is going to happen but I hope, at some point, we can find similarities and aim our toxic venom upward at the corrupt instead of at each other all the time. Thank you I agree. The media and it's race war conveniently hold hands with many liberal "you're an asshole if youu don't think exactly like I do" mindsets which is a huge problem. But just deciding to spite that group of people is fucked because as misguided as their agenda is it's still based somewhat on being a human and giving a shit. Which is also a fucked tactic used to make them seem holier than thou but that's another can of worms. Joking about pussy grabbing will never be funny even if it gets a rise out of loud sjws on the internet and if your (not you swb ha) peabrain can't figure that out I don't care at this point I just go into action when I have to irl which I'm glad has increased awareness fucked agenda or not. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
CATO institute is not having it with these immigration bills. https://www.cato.org/blog/house-gop-proposes-largest-restriction-legal-immigrants-1920s In the entire history of the United States, the only policy-driven cuts in legal immigration that rival the effects of these bills were the Emergency Quota Act of 1921 and the Quota Act of 1924, which cut the number of legal immigrants by 496,000 in 1922 and 413,000 in 1925, respectively. Congress enacted these laws to keep out Italians and Eastern Europeans, specifically Jews, and were used throughout the 1930s to prevent the entry of German Jews. These cuts lack any reasonable justification. Labor force growth is an essential component of economic growth. Immigrants already increase U.S. Gross Domestic Product by roughly $2 trillion annually. For the United States to remain competitive internationally, it needs an expanding workforce. These proposals will harm domestic growth and make it more difficult for U.S. businesses to out-produce their competitors around the world. U.S. immigrants who primarily enter under the family sponsorship and diversity categories are the most highly educated in American history. True “merit-based” immigration reform would give these immigrants more opportunities to immigrate, not fewer. In any case, America needs workers at both ends of the skills spectrum to grow job opportunities for all Americans. There is simply no economic justification for banning so many legal immigrants. Shitty Rambo
The only minority I have an interest in defending is the smallest minority possible, the individual. I have no interest in collectivism or fighting shoulder to shoulder with people who want to expand statism and give up their freedom to a group of people who have a monopoly on violence for a false sense of safety. Talk to your neighbor if you want, give your monetary property to any organization you want, as long as it's voluntary and done between consenting adults nobody should care what you do with your time or property. If some dumbass in a flyover state doesn't want to sell cakes to people of color his business is going to fail, it's in his best interest to not be an asshole. Realistically all of our own self interests are what prevent us from being assholes. Fining the cake shop owner and throwing him in prison if he doesn't pay doesn't do anything. He's not going to suddenly change his mind. Now if that same business owner decides he wants to use violence or force against someone because of their ethnicity that's a completely different thing, and force should be met with force. Before you get in an uproar over things you can't control ask yourself, "Should someone be thrown in a cage for this?" Chances are the answer will mostly always be, "no." It's not difficult. Be an asshole and live a harder life if you want to, but don't violate anyone else's freedom or use violence unless it's in self defense. You guys make it sound like we don't live in a country where a Muslim cab driver will take a Jewish person to their front door in exchange for money. They both consented to a deal and overlook their hatred in order to get something they want. Voluntary exchanges are a beatiful thing and surpass all this nonsense, threatening violence does not. daegor
