vinyl addict
My advice for Broken is to buy a low priced original without the 7", then add this to your Discogs want list: https://www.discogs.com/Nine-Inch-Nails-Physical-Suck/release/1215353 and be patient. I was able to get one for $20 to complete the set. That is a separate release, and is not the same press that came with the Broken EP. Though,it's the same 2 songs. agaetisbyrjun
I can't comment on any other version, but the 2008 press of The Downward Spiral is one of the best sounding records I own. I would be surprised if any of them sounded shitty to be honest as it is one of the most amazingly well mastered recordings I've ever heard. That's the Back To Black reissue right? Dominic_
Do you mean to say you've got OPs of the more expensive albums and don't listen to them because they were so expensive? No, I have been avoiding listening to the albums at all because then I will want a $200+ album
Dominic_
That's the Back To Black reissue right? Yeah. The one I have sounds killer. As far as I know the recent repress is identical
daegor
No, I have been avoiding listening to the albums at all because then I will want a $200+ album Seriously though, The Fragile is a masterpiece. Some of the others will see this statement as fighting words, but it's leaps and bounds better than anything he's ever done. What stops me from buying an overpriced OG pressing is the knowledge that some day it will be repressed, and the repress will be spectacular. thesecrets0308

What happened to me last night, I put on my CD copy of The Fragile and decided I would go look into throwing a bunch of money at the vinyl. $350... nah... i'm good with my CD for now... hahaha

Totally agree The Fragile is a masterpiece, although I personally wouldn't say it's leaps and bounds better than anything NIN has ever done. It is a VERY close 2nd place for me behind TDS, so close that on some days I may switch it up and say it's my #1. After TDS and Fragile comes Pretty Hate Machine, With Teeth and then Year Zero in that order to round up my top 5 full-length albums. I reserve leaps and bounds talk for Further Down the Spiral as I believe it is far and away the best of the 3 remix albums.

I think I got lucky then because the person I bought mine from sent me the version that came with Broken (the labels are indeed different on the two versions). Yes, the labels that came on the 7" with Broken pretty much just have the big NIN logo.
markok
So,if you have not heard it, then how can you comment on which sounds best? There isnt anything to improve on - the mastering is great, all the instruments sound very lifelike, and it sounds better than any digital version I own and have heard since discovering this album 15 years ago. mcpherson123
I've never heard an original pressing of TDS, but i know my 2008 (i think) black vinyl reissue sounds damn good. Actually it's probably in my top 10 records in my collection as far as SQ goes. The last pressing of it i believe was on a pic disc (yuck). 1994 Promo 2XLP. Sounds too good. I've got one. Adam10647
We're likely getting a best of at some point this year. At some point they'll have to put out the Fragile reissue Trent's been threatening since 09. He's tweeted a few times about how great the surround sound is on it so that's done. But yeah they need to put out Further Down the Spiral and All that Could have been with a still 10 inch. gratuitous NIN shelf porn:
markok
Just checked discogs and the 2008 version is cut by Kevin Gray, so no wonder it sounds that good - usually he does the 50 USD audiophile cut all analog from tape records.
BuzzersonKillwell
I saw a sealed With Teeth for $40 at a shop in Montreal a couple years ago. I was like.... I dunno about $40 for With Teeth. Probably should have nabbed it.
timsimmons
I got With Teeth for $40 from Aural Exploits about a month before they went under. Really happy I got that in under the wire.
mcpherson123
I got a used copy of With Teeth in EX condition from Reckless back in 2012 with a gift certificate from my boss at the time. It was $20.
Plarocks
Score. Yes, the labels that came on the 7" with Broken pretty much just have the big NIN logo. I bought a UK original of Broken from my local shop wayyyyyy back in the day. My 7-inch came with the silver injection moulded center label. It was available with this version as well

negavinyl
Score. Yes, the labels that came on the 7" with Broken pretty much just have the big NIN logo. I got lucky and finally scored the 7" separately on discogs recently. It came from Greece and took a month to arrive, but it was only like $22 shipped. Not too shabby. hzielaskowski
Was listening to "The Downward Spiral" during the weekend. I'm surprised how "old" it got. Sounds really funny now. Though the music is amazing, production seems like it was made on Atari.
markok
I bet that there are thousands and thousands of bands still out there RIGHT NOW who would die to get that TDS sound. The thing with HTDA also is that many people think that it can be easily re-done with any software but in reality it was recorded on analog machines that cost a million, literally. dobyblue
I think the production holds up very well on TDS, especially once you've heard it in surround sound. Hard to go back when an album so layered, one that suits surround so well, gets such a well done 5.1 mix. Trent and JB really did this one perfectly. The sawing sound at the end of Closer, starts in the front right and sweeps counter clockwise around the room (works very well if you have good surround speakers capable of hitting 80Hz cleanly, I have floorstanding towers for rears), magnificent!I don't think The Fragile has been shelved, TR's last bit of info on it said he was deciding just how much effort to put into all the extra bits and pieces he's come across. Let me see if I can find exactly what he said...February 2014: Yeah, we've done a lot of the work for that. Really what it's come down to is with all the other stuff going on, the Fragile thing in particular, I want to make sure I get it right. You know, we've mixed everything in surround, it sounds amazing, we have a great package ready to go. I just stumbled across 40-or-so demos that are from that era that didn't turn into songs, that range from sound effects to full-fledge pieces of music, and I kind of feel like - something should happen with that. And I think it has something to do with that package, and I just need the bandwidth to kind of calmly think about it, and decide how much effort I want to devote into that and what to do with it. I have a lot of ideas that could eat up immense amounts of time and I'm trying to weigh out - just think it through. I don't want to pull the trigger on something and go, 'Man, I should have done it in this way.' And I just haven't had a chance to be in a calm place where I can think it through completely and make that decision.I hope it comes in a variety of packages. I'll buy whatever version I need to in order to get Alan Moulder's 5.1 mix, which I presume will be on a Blu-ray, and for sure will pick up the vinyl release as well. seku
caninesapien
Maybe a stupid question but: has "And All That Could Have Been" been ever released on vinyl? I love this concert. I would love to see this reissued if only for the bonus disc. That has some of my favourite NIN material on. Don't think I would bother with With Teeth even if reissued. But I would be very tempted by The Fragile. Got a free copy of TDS (The Music on Vinyl issue) a couple of years ago. Not bad for free, but wouldn't spend the time or resources getting an original.
