Having trouble getting into it myself Feel the same way. I didn't realize I liked the more "rocking" version of Okkervil River, until I got an album with no rockers on it. The slow songs are fine when they are being mixed in with the more uptempo stuff (Stage Names, Stand-Ins, even Silver Gymnasium), but I put this on the other day when I was doing something around the house and nothing ever really drew me in. ksuwdboots

Pretty much my thoughts exactly.
Burkazoid
I'm still waiting on mine from Music Magpie. Got it for a great price (£13) but it's no longer listed on their site so not holding my breath. This album has really grown on me over the last week. I do miss the more uptempo stuff, but there are lots of beautiful moments on this album. "Mary on a Wave" is my current favourite.
Moglog
There's a lot to unpack here. I do miss the rockin' stuff, but I'm starting to appreciate what he's doing here more (huge Astral Weeks vibes). Give it a good headphones listen, the instrumentation is gorgeous. Seeing them tomorrow night in Boston, wondering how it will translate live.

_stretts
I really really enjoy this album, instrumentation is gorgeous, have plenty of ear candy. Perfect. This is coming form someone who has never listened to their back catalogue...
boops_popmarket
NEGATIVITY WARNING: I love the 1/3rd of Black Sheep that rocks and I like most of the Silver Gymnasium. Conversely, the sleepy, slow, weepy Okkervil is one of my least favorite things to listen to of all time.
