About to spin this now. edit: just finished my first listen. I recommend you take the lyrics along right from the start, they are my favorite thing about the record so far. And damn, "New Halloween" is going to make folks cry, there's no doubt about that. Maybe when I'm physically holding the record and reading the lyrics I'll be ready. I've been looking forward to this since it was announced, and with each song they've release, they've been hitting me harder and harder. My body is ready, but my heart isn't. Their last two (haven't heard the first) didn't do much for me, but I definitely enjoyed this one. They're mixing it up a bit so it sounds less samey throughout, which was my main complaint with the others. As for the subject matter, it really is a gut punch at times. Yes, some of the lines are corny or predictable, but the hard-hitting ones strike far more often. The ending...man... I watched my grandmother go from a healthy woman to almost nothing, when I was 13. She passed away just a week after my 14th birthday, and I miss her so damn much. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but at the same time the subject matter will probably prevent me from listening to it constantly. It actually got me choked up a few times.
