I know nothing about this band but are these allegations or confirmed actions?

Where there is smoke, usually fire but in 2017 anyone with an internet connection can start anything.

Interesting timing too .

Before anyone gets all riled up, this is just a legit question. Not an opinion or assessment of what has or will transpire

Yeah it's pretty damning now with multiple people stepping up.

It's kinda like Bikini Kill's "Girls to the front" in most cases. If a LGBTQ band was like "cishets to the back" I'd move back. I get the need for a band to make that kind of statement.

I know nobody actually said this ^^^ in this case and I can get why someone would want people they identify with up in the front...but how do you think this is ok?

Imagine if someone said, "Yeah, I'd like to get the front filled up with heterosexual, gender CIS people only. Anyone in the LGBTQ community, please move to the back." Nah, that wouldn't fly. People would absolutely lose their shit, and rightly so.

If someone paid to come see you, they're there supporting you not causing an issue, don't fuckin' mean-mug them because you assume you don't share their beliefs, or that they don't share your gender identity. The hypocrisy is real.

It's just crazy to me how many people talk about equality and then talk about giving preferential treatment to certain groups. That's not equality...it's the exact opposite of equality.

I didn't want to say it because drama but before this becomes a fight about that I just wanna say if this show was last year at O'Malleys I was there and felt none of what he described. Maybe I'm not manly enough to get mean mugged but I think it's more of an uncomfortable situation seeming worse than it is because you're uncomfortable. Whatever though it doesn't matter these people are trash.

Also Girls to the Front is definitely lighthearted and not serious so I dunno why you'd take his cishets to the back comment way past that.

Edit by not serious I mean you won't get attacked and the meaning isn't vicious.

I understand the girls to the front thing not being a serious thing, dude always goes way overboard when it comes to these sort of things though, so I took him to be serious about the cishets. He constantly hyperbolizes and says people should injure others, start fires, etc to get their point across in a serious way.

Not trying to start a fight about anything for sure. Just making a point.

I also wish bands would stop using LGBTQ culture/rights/awareness or whatever you want to call it as a gimmick/selling point, especially when it is insincere.

Because one person in a queer band assaulted someone?  C'mon dude.  That is fucking ridiculous.  If you're so offended by queer bands "insincerity" of being queer then you may have to take a step back and reconsider their motives.  Why is it a gimmick?   I'm guessing LGBTQ people need "LGBTQ time" just like a dude needs "Bro Time", and bands vocalizing their queerness helps people who identify similarly find others who they can hopefully feel comfortable around.  I honestly can't see any negatives of a band promoting their queerness, 24/7 if they want to.

Remember, this band is shitty because they are shitty people and abusers.  This fact exists completely independently from them being queer.

This reminds me, I heard a good argument the other day about how self loathing hetero sexual white males use "bro" as a replacement for the the n-word, in that they still have plenty of hate in their hearts and naturally want to marginalize 'other people', because it's human nature, yet still desperately want  to appear like a genuinely good/progressive person.

If I can remember where I heard it I'll gladly share a link (I wanna say it was on Nick Mullen's show but can't remember exactly). Anyways, I'm gonna take my brown ass down to the cacarniceria for some pollo asado and cotija. Y'all have fun with this virtue signaling competition and tell your moms I said happy momo day ;)

I'm still waiting to hear about all these shitty bands taking advantage of the culture. I just think one was the tipping point which is funny and the opposite of everything being preached about accepting everyone in this thread.

Where's artwork of the kids getting a paper route or selling lemonade so they can buy their own tickets to the game and learn an important lesson about how hard work is a better option than blaming others for your missed opportunities?

This graphic has nothing to do with what we're talking about here though. You're putting one set of people (I assume the LGBTQ community in this case) at some sort of "disadvantage" that needs to be overcome with preferential treatment. Treating people with an equal level of respect already is the removal of the fence.

Were this a case where we were talking about impoverished schools, a need that was being met at different levels where someone needed to "catch up" I'd agree that equity is important, but equality is all anyone needs in terms of how they should be viewed and treated in society.

In a perfect world. Fact is although it's 2017 equality ain't shit and these groups actually are at disadvantages and do need help. Hence his graphic I assume. If you don't think they have the disadvantage when equality is concerned and everyone is seen the same then that's just ignorance. I'm just confused why anyone is arguing about the community in general when it's literally one shitty band that has already been excommunicated. There's nothing wrong with them celebrating themselves in the same way every other minority does.

I've never argued about this before I just think it's funny one post about feeling uncomfortable during a queer bands set provided a voice for everyone else to freely state how they really feel. Which is uncomfortable and confused I guess. How is any of this an issue I don't get it. Can someone provide me with news of queer on straight hate crime?

I have no horse in this race...I'm not over the top about this band. BUT. I've been keeping this in for a while now and just recently shared it with someone from VC.

When I went to see Pity Sex and Petal down here last year...I think it was last year...PWR BTTM were one of the openers. I was right up front the whole night b/c I'm really into PS and Petal. So. When PWR BTTM were playing, their entire set during their between-song banter, they were of course praising Queer Culture/Lifestyle (apologies if that's not the proper terminology but for this post to me, also includes gay, trans, etc.), which I am was glad to hear and see and cheered on. But on an odd flipside, they were also bashing on anyone non-queer/gay/trans/etc. and borderline inciting violence against them. But in their I'd guess "joking manner". I honestly felt uncomfortable during their entire set as more than on one occasion during it, I was being squinted at by the band. I know I'm not that hard to blend in being a burly (slight overweight) and bearded dude. Sure, they had no way on knowing I'm a hetero male, but shit, I felt like I had a target on my back for some reason. Felt like guilty for being hetero.

This doesn't anything whatsoever to what's been developing with the band currently and the allegations. But damnit...needed to share and just get it  off my chest. Hell...even my friend who I was with that night, who stood towards the back of the crowd, saw all of this going on and she thought (as she told me) that I was going to get my ass kicked that night just for being a dude.

The wrong dude and the wrong show as she put it.

I felt the exact same way at the Detroit date of that same tour. I felt very out of place. You are definitely not alone in feeling that way.

These guys are shit, but that's pretty much how LGBT people feel most of the time. If it makes you uncomfortable for an hour or two imagine it being permanent. Again this band is vile I just had to get my 2cents in.

As I just said above, I felt the same at the Detroit date. I can certainly concede to the point that you're making but that doesn't make it cool or okay. Granted I'm just one person, but I don't go out of my way to make anyone LGBT or even otherwise feel uncomfortable. I think it's possible to make a space where both LGBT and hetero people can feel comfortable without alienating or making one group feel uncomfortable.
