Scary Kids Scaring Kids - The City Sleeps in Flames and General ETR Hate Thread

Recommended Posts

I had all 3 ETR Fall of Troy albums and they sounded great on my LP60. Shortly afterwards I upgraded my turntable and they did not sound great. I no longer have any of those albums.

I still have that Something Corporate record that also sounds bad and I haven't listened to since I bought it so I guess I should get rid of that too.

I'd rather be known for faulty ears than being a pretentious douchebag who has to bag on somebody's musical tastes to feel superior

You have strange priorities. My pretentious douchebagginess makes me rad as fuck. I don't need to feel superior either. I am superior.

I'm proud of my Yahoo spam filter for immediately sending this release e-mail for this one to spam.  I'm less proud to have been on the e-mail list at all (I think I ordered a Harvard record from them?).

If you don't want the emails, you can click unsubscribe.

If you aren't proud....why are you posting about it?  Keep your shames to yourself!

Look, I'm really not proud for this one but I had to have it. This album meant a lot to me in freshman year, if it sounds bad, I can sell it since I grabbed the /100 and break even.

This is how ETR functions.  For every release, even the Nickelodeon ones, there is a large enough contingent who justify it because it has sentimental value to them.  But then they reiterate that they will not buy anything else from them.  This was an exception.  Enough exceptions create a profitable business.  Well, and the fact that I'm sure there are hundreds of people buying a lot of these releases who have no idea what Ross is about.

Also, I'm not shaming you.  Just pointing out that a lot of people here end up having an exception or two when it comes to ETR releases.  For every release, there's a few people on here who have to have it, because of how much the record means to them.

No, I totally understand why this had to be said and I get it. He also teased doing Santi- The Academy Is l... and that would be an instant buy for me to complete my TAI collection. I'm not perfect and I do feel like shit buying it.

I wouldn't lose sleep over it.  Someone said the passing member's family is getting a cut of it.  Hopefully that is accurate.

I really hope that is true. I can't believe its true just because some random dude on an internet message board said it is.

Although, I do believe it every time I get an email saying that an Arabian prince wants to give me a large sum of money and all I have to do is send him 1,000 to get it so who really knows

So which of my turntables isn't real? The Pro-ject of the Bang & Olufsen?

I have plenty of ETR records that sound just fine.

I'm surprised to hear you say this since I don't doubt you have a good system Ben, but dubious sourcing is a known issue with the label. I'd be curious which ones you own that you think sound good, I've never been impressed when friends have played fall of troy, porno for pyros or reel big fish. I should also backpeddle on my last post it's not impossible for a recorded digital record to sound good or better, it's all in the mastering but instead of springing for someone to master it properly for vinyl they usually go for fancy color variants instead. As much as I appreciate a pretty looking record, I don't like dropping $20+ for an album that falls flat dynamically like the last Jayhawks record

I remember reading an album review from when this came out and the reviewer coined Scary Kids Scaring Kids as the "next" From First To Last.

What? Hahaha. From First to Last's debut record was poking fun at the very gimmicks that SKSK was bathing in on this album.

If the proceeds are going to his family though, thats awesome.

Giving the family his portion of the licensing agreement does not mean proceeds. Ross will be putting the proceeds into his next cartoon cover song release I'm sure. Does this band own their own songs? If not I'm sure they can't be getting much out of this and the majority of the license fee will go to the label who owns the rights.

Haha fair enough. I maybe assumed a bit too much. Immortal is an imprint of a major so I'm sure you are spot on.
