John Lennon beat his ex-wife. Fuck The Beatles.

Jimmy Page had an underage girlfriend. Fuck Led Zeppelin.

Keith Moon killed someone. Fuck The Who.

I love when sarcasm backfires. Those are only bands you need to like when you have no grasp of your own taste. "Aaaargh but these be the classics!" I don't know the exact science behind it but music relies on repetition and when you grow up being force fed these shitty bands over and over it's easy to trick your brain into thinking they're good because it's familiar.

uh, yea... those are the classics ONLY BECAUSE they were forced down the worlds throats so many years <_<

Well, yeah. Ages ago people only really had the radio, magazines and record stores to find music to obsess over. Their labels paid radio stations to play them, magazines to feature them and record stores to have them displayed prominently – they were forced down the world's throats, and thus became "the classics" because they were the biggest bands in the world, not the best.

I really hope you guys are kidding about the beatles, led zeppelin and the who.

This made me laugh.

Sadly noone here is kidding, Pete Townshend of the who also got caught with child porn on his computer which he claimed was for "research" still waiting for him to release his academic thesis on child pornography.

while admitting the whole 'classics', 'biggest bands', and 'best' are subjective.....  ^^==to that whole statement that them being pushed more than any other groups is the reason they (and others) are considered the cream of the crop:  Nope.

You use a lot of punctuation for someone that can't write coherently.

I meant kidding about this: "they were forced down the world's throats, and thus became "the classics" because they were the biggest bands in the world, not the best."

Sorry, don't realize this place was an exercise in formal writing. The content of this thread got me all discombobulated.

My apologies to you all for the creative use of type to separate my thoughts, and apologies to myself for the wasted minutes even replying again.

If it makes it any clearer:

while at the same time admitting the whole 'classics', 'biggest bands', and 'best' are subjective, to that whole statement of them being pushed more than any other groups as the reason they (and others) are considered the cream of the crop:  Nope.

Sorry I don't know how to separate out my thoughts in a coherent manner.

While I admit that 'classics', 'biggest bands', and 'best' are subjective, I disagree that those bands mentioned became 'classics' because they were being pushed more than other groups at the time.

There you go.

I've been trolling for most of this thread but The Who and The Beatles are garbo sorry man. Right place right time for the Beatles it isn't actually possible for a band to grow to that amount of popularity anymore because of how things have changed. Next thing you're gonna tell me someone can still become the richest person in the world by creating computer operating software. Time is a neat factor to some arguments it's cool to be able to see things past black and white like a dog lol maybe try it.

The Who = garbage = agree

Helter Skelter Baby

I mean they aren't garbage I know hyperbole isn't lost on you but theres no way the band gets that big if they didn't fill a hole at the right time. I don't see how admitting that really detracts from ones ability to like the band but whatevs not really a big deal.
