jaedong
I'm so torn on this record. I got into Manson's stuff recently, I was a child of the 90s but never got into MM's stuff for whatever reason, too intense I guess lol. I discovered AS last year and it's so insane, one of the best albums I've ever heard. Those 3 are classics (Holy Wood has a couple weak tracks for me, not huge on A Place in the dirt/The Nobodys, but the rest rules). Golden Age is kind of alluring for its weirdness but is pretty terrible. I want to like Heaven Upside Down, something about it I like more than his last few but its hard to put my finger on. It's not terrible and it is honestly a pretty strong front to back listen but none of it stands out and a bunch of it is still pretty cringy/just doesn't work as well as the old stuff. Just a contradictory album, hard to discuss for whatever reason. Feels like pretty stock MM, but there's something I can't put my finger on that is keeping me listening. Hoping it grows on me, I know his vocals will never be what they once were but there's some potential on this record for sure.

Battra
So.... In the past 10 days I've picked up Pale Emperor on vinyl and I've got the CD of Heaven Upside Down from the library for testing purposes. I gotta say...both of these albums are just ok. I got into Manson during the Portrait days and here was nothing dull or expected about that album.... These two...seem a bit...bland to me and I'm not feeling like I NEED Heave Upside Down.... Am I alone here? kannibal
ghost
@Battra No, I think it lost steam pretty fast. I was listening to it all the time for like 2 weeks and now I haven't played it for like a month. It definitely could've used more polish. TPE on the other hand, I adore. I definitely feel the opposite way in terms of polish. I wish Manson would let go and do a much more raw recording for an album.

Excuse me, I meant in terms of things like song writing, lyrics, flow, etc. It felt like a jumble of different albums rather than one cohesive release and Manson really could have redone a lot of the performances he gave. It doesn't sound like a completed project to me but more like they got pretty close and just stopped. Production wise I totally agree, it definitely could've benefited from less touching up. mcpherson123

After Holy Wood I completely fell off the Manson train based on the mediocrity of those albums. I love Manson but was not wowed at all by any of that stuff. Finally picked up Pale Emperor a couple weeks ago and it's great, vintage Manson. Will definitely be checking out this new one once I've digested PE. jaedong
I'm just getting into Pale Emperor, Killing Strangers I think is one of MM's best songs but the second half of the record seems to slow down considerably. Thoughts?
