youspinmeround
Out April 13 on Dead Oceans A Place To Bury Strangers have announced their new album, Pinned, coming out April 13th. Their fifth full-length finds them converting difficult moments into some of their most urgent work to date. It’s their first since the 2016 election, and their first since the 2014 closing of Death By Audio, the beloved Brooklyn DIY space where founding guitarist/singer Oliver Ackerman lived, worked, and created with complete freedom. Pre-order Pinned – https://APTBS.lnk.to/pinned Pinned opens with “Never Coming Back,” a frightening crescendo of group vocals, vertiginous guitar work, and bassist Dion Lunadon’s unrelenting bass. “That song is a big concept,” Ackermann says. “You make these decisions in your life…you’re contemplating whether or not this will be the end. You think of your mortality, those moments you could die and what that means. You’re thinking about that edge of the end, deciding whether or not it’s over. When you’re close to that edge, you could teeter over.” A couple of years ago, A Place To Bury Strangers made one of those big decisions Ackermann speaks of on “Never Coming Back.” They were in search of a new drummer and Lunadon met Lia Simone Braswell who was playing shows around Brooklyn where she had recently relocated from Los Angeles. After seeing her play, Lunadon was moved to ask Braswell if she’d want to come to a band practice sometime. While not only cementing herself as the band’s new drummer, Braswell also contributes vocals on “Never Coming Back” and elsewhere on Pinned, opening up a whole new dimension in the band’s music. “As things go on, you don’t want them to be stagnant,” Ackermann remarks. “Being a band for ten years, it’s hard to keep things moving forward. I see so many bands that have been around and they’re a weaker version of what they used to be. This band is anti-that. We try to push ourselves constantly, with the live shows and the recordings. We always want to get better. You’ve got to dig deep and take chances, and sometimes, I questioned that. It took really breaking through to make it work. I think we did that.” It’s a clear and honest statement of intent, not just for everything that follows, but for this band as a whole. Group Buy Guy
Thank you! I love these guys. Hands down the best live experience I've ever seen. Headed to DC9 on 5.24!
numanoid
Yes! No brainer. I don't play music either, but fuck it, it's a vegan guitar strap so whatever. I guess it's time for me to learn to play guitar. One of my absolute favorite bands. 2018 is looking good so far. Now c'mon Ringo Deathstarr, your turn... I still have yet to see APTBS live, and they played within 1 hr of me last year. They seem to be constantly on tour, must write on the road. RD said they have 3 or 4 new songs playing live now and looking to add a few more before releasing something this year. It's going to be hard to top Pure Mood, but they do seem to manage to keep the bar with each release. Love everything they've done. I haven't gotten into APTBS last 2 albums as much as the first 2. @mrewest has seen the light numanoid

fish
They really are great live. I saw them 4 or 5 times back during their first couple of albums until they switched bassists and was always blown away. I imagine they will always be pretty good live as long as Oliver is involved. Only been digging through their albums for the first time these past couple weeks but I’ve been obsessed with Exploding Head. Worship was ok, & I didn’t much like Transfixiation the one time I listened to it. But I dig this new song! Although the art is creepy as shit haha. jeromium
This is of interest to me and I love the album cover because it reminds me of my girlfriend's eyes when we are having sex.

drds89
Reminds me of the 'worming' (oculolinctus) reports sweeping Japan a few years ago. Turned out the reports of the widespread practice and subsequent eye infection epidemic were a hoax.
Derek™
Tried this band when Worship was released and they basically did nothing at all for me. New track is quite nice though. I think I’m down to check this one out.

mrewest
Unnecessary bump but just curious if these 2 songs released have grown on others the way they have on me. I was unsure of both as they were released but all of a sudden I can’t quit listening to either. Love the addition of the female vocals. And they’re both so catchy in a weird way imo. I still haven’t warmed up entirely to the latest single, but haven’t played it too many times, either. But Never Coming Back is sublime. Did you listen to Exploding Head and their S/T, or just Worship (the latter is just avg. to me, whereas their first two are probably my favorites in the noisegaze, besides Scott Cortez's projects. Maybe most accessible and alternative radio-possible) ethereal
