New single Honeycomb:

"Honeycomb" by Deafheaven

Lyrics

shadows extend east
and Cortazar stares at women shuffling by who blot their lips from violent men
and say "god bless you"
I sulk with pause and
loving mariachi soars against the red and yellow tents of strangers
gifting geese the ends of bread.
8, 12, 13 hours and the people keep fighting for sleep, for rest...

i'm reluctant to stay sad
life beyond is a field a flowers
my love is a nervous child lapping from the glowing lagoon of their presence
my love is a bulging, blue-faced fool hung from the throat by sunflower stems

I like the home movie vacation video. Lot of familiar spots and I was looking at crowd scenes to see if I randomly saw one of my friends. Of course, if you film in SF you need to have someone bombing down a street.

Sounds like they are going for a more "black metal for Coachella crowd" sound. I know that sounds like a put down, but I really like this new song. The 80s solo in the middle was a surprise. I was previously getting bored with this band and this sounds promising.

It's funny...half of my Twitter and FB feeds right now are people bitching about the song.

My favorite "putdown" so far: Pretty wild how there isn't a single interesting part in the near 12 minutes of that new Deafheaven song. I'll take their diet envy Official album over this screamy fluff any day.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hyped.

That said, I slightly am wary of pre-ordering any limited variant of this because the New Bermuda pre-order was something of a disaster, especially regarding the "coke bottle clear", which manifested as a translucent green months after the initial release and other variants were readily available (funnily enough, googling info on the New Bermuda delay lead me here for the first time).

Ah who am I kidding: this song is excellent and I'm near certain I'll cave on a limited variant pre-order.

...just because they played coachella last year? that’s pretty shitty observation if you ask me.

single is good, definitely sounds like a continuation of the new bermuda sound but slightly less blackened. also looks like they found a new bassist.

Probably sometime after Sunbather’s initial hype cycle – where it was “forced” upon everyone in Apple ads and allegedly available to purchase at Starbucks – it seemed that harping on Deafheaven was the new “in” thing.  It carried on pretty heavily with the release of New Bermuda – “do people even care about this band anymore?”  And “at least they put out one good album.  This band is hipster screamo trash”. I’m glad the band has seen success and can afford to keep producing new music and touring, but it’s a shame so many people are trying to ass-blast and pigeonhole them in 2018.  I believe there wouldn’t be half the amount of eye rolling and vitriol there currently is, if they stuck to Deathwish and didn’t have the amount of success they did with Sunbather.  This isn’t me critiquing their progress as a band or wishing they would’ve stayed small, in that Roads To Judah bubble of success; it’s just an observation.  Lots of bandwagon fans and fleeting critics seem to rip into Deafheaven for whatever reason.  Call it what it is, but I enjoy their sound quite a bit and find that each album is different enough from the last that I can get adequate mileage out of them.  Works for me even if that makes me a faux-trve hipster in the process.

Not sure why it's a "shitty observation" to you. If you took the time to read my post, I wasn't putting them down. I also didn't know they played Coachella. Basically, I think they are going for a more accessible sound to draw in more listeners. They've been on that path ever since Sunbather, so it's not a surprise to anyone paying attention. I also said I like the song. Reading comprehension should taught more in schools.

if that didn’t already happen with sunbather (again, they played coachella) then it isn’t going to miraculously manifest itself this time around. I can comprehend English just fine and have been to coachella numerous times, what you said is extremely closed-minded whether you thought you were putting them down or not. and for the record, basically nobody was at their set when they played coachella so idk why that specific festival (or set?) would have a direct result of their sound, as you’re implying.

just enjoy the music dude, no need for P4K type tagging on an already fussed over band.
