Posting Guidelines Reminder!!!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys and gals...

It's kinda silly to be having to say this but it needs to be reminded.

If and when you feel the need to post a picture or thread that can be deemed or seen as graphic or vulgar, please make sure that you put NSFW (Not Safe For Work) in the thread title.

A large amount of fellow VCers browse the boards from their workplace and it can be a risk for them if they happen to be reading a thread with graphic pics and no warning.

I received a message from a VCer that this happened to just today:

"We’ve had a bunch of people posting insanely NSFW pictures in the forum and I got tagged at work today as trying to view a pornographic website for checking the forum during work today because a thread linked to a picture of a guys cock tattooed with a dragon on it. Can we get a rule that people can’t post NSFW pictures without announcing them in the thread title? There are a lot of people like myself who post from work and it would suck if we couldn’t keep up on pre-orders during the day because of this..."

For the most part, the "NSFW" tag has been done on thread titles whenever applicable...esp. on the more lengthy threads we've had like the "Manly Man" one. But there are a few that fall through the cracks and sure enough...someone will be unlucky enough to be browsing that thread, and then their boss walks by.

As usual...please abide by the posting guideline and be courteous to your fellow VCers. We're all grown-ups around here. Hopefully. ;)

11/19 update:

Taking a cue from another board I frequent, this is a pertinent guideline:

If you register a username with the sole intention of abusing our forum then your username and your posts will be deleted.

VC is a forum that many band members, labels, and vinyl enthusiasts/fans frequent. They are here to communicate with friends and peers, and most of all, have fun. Please be respectful of them or you will be deleted.

soooo....the thread starter needs to read the poster's mind?????

99% of the time the person who started the thread is not the one making it nsfw.

this is a moderator problem.

mods should edit the thread titles when they see a nsfw pic.

or you should just disable images while browsing at work.

Flicker...to answer your concern...(I can only speak for myself)...I've been on the lookout for NSFW threads and making them so in the thread title. I can't be prowling the boards 24/7 dude.

If something gets missed by us mods...hell, man...there's always the handy PM button... ;)

The 'NSFW' tag obviously mostly applies to images...ya know?

And I agree...disabling images also helps and works. But not everyone does that.

but they should.......if theyre at work..........

its all about taking it into your own hands or being able to blame someone else.

Seriously, NSFW images are probably like 2% of all the images here. Most are jokes or references that are 100% fine. Why would you basically eliminate most of the interactions for such a small percentage?

Who said anything about eliminating interactions?

I think Dante was saying turning off images is stupid if only 2% of the shit is nsfw. I think he's saying it should be a concern.

FYI as a network administrator there are two ways you can get in trouble w/ NSFW stuff.

1) The obvious one of a co-worker / manager seeing something on your screen that will get you in trouble.

2) If someone links an image to an adult website that shows up in the firewall logs and I see it and I report you. So even if you enter down a bunch of times after NSFW the image has already been loaded and your IT department could flag it and inform your manager or something.

There are a few steps you can take to helping protect yourself while surfing the Internet at work. If you have the ability to install Firefox here are a few extensions I would install to keep you on the safer side of things:

a) Ad-Block Plus

B) Flashblock -- disables all Flash based items. You press the item to activate it again

c) NoScript -- this is a little intense, but it blocks all types of scripts (ie java) from running w/out your consent

again, and this goes to reading comprehension so read slow, the whole board has been tagged by my works firewall, not just the etc board. It's obviously like that for other people as well or Juan wouldn't have been emailed about it. There are times you can check the board at work (some grown up jobs have lunch hours!) and it isn't just dicking around. No dick joke is funny enough that it doesn't need NSFW tagging.

Are other Proboards blocked?

Our web filter gives me the option to block every message board right off the bat.

I can't install anything on my work PC, hell we can't even right click in the browser it sucks.

I've stopped checking the forums at work for the most part, just to be safe.

Agreed.

Don't go prowling through the EVERYTHING ELSE category at work.

yes, but there are times when you'll click on a seemingly normal thread and then BAM PORN INCEST BOOKS from the 80's.

why should the many suffer for the few?
