kyacrash
first let me stay I was really into hardcore in the late 90's, then right around the time American Nightmare broke up kinda stopped following new bands. I would pay attention to the bigger bands from my youth, like H2O, Madball, Agnostic Front, but had no interest in "new" hardcore. Like many of you have said I thought new hardcore wasn't very good and just stuck with the older stuff. Then in 2007 I moved just outside of Philadelphia and for me, a new life was born. Somehow, even with my jaded view, I was able to give some new and local music a chance, and I am so happy I did. There were all these new (or at least new to me) bands that were fucking awesome. Turned out I was late to the party on a lot of good music (Blacklisted, Cold World, Have Heart, etc.), but it was ok because not only could I enjoy all that stuff for the first time, but I was in awe of how alive and kicking the scene was. I've lived in some cool places (Boston, Orlando), but now will without a doubt say Philly has the best hardcore scene. So, here are some bands that I've been into recently, and not so recently. First, and probably my favorite hardcore band of the last 5 years, Wisdom in Chains. Almost indescribable as "hardcore", as they cover a huge range of punk, rock, and hardcore, sets them apart from most other bands. For example, the tune "Cap City", is catchy as fuck. Yes, a catchy hardcore song. It tells the true story of how their van got stolen while their guitar player (Richie Krutch, my fucking hero), was sleeping in the back. One of their more prominent songs at every live show, "Chasing the Dragon", is an anthem dedicated to the first time you hear a song that changes/affects your life forever. This particular song is referencing Sick of it All, but it could be any band that applies to you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKrmw8Kb1I0 There are two songs that talk about how awesome dogs are, "Ghost of Buddy", and "Girls Lie, Cops Lie, Dogs Love". The latter of which subsequently has the great song title of all time. Then there's the song, "Straight Edge Dad", which genuinely makes me want to have kids so I can raise them to be fucking awesome. The band is not a straight edge band, btw, just the lead singer. And there is no shortage of rager hardcore songs about friendship, family, and loyalty. But they are all awesome. edit: wtf I guess ipboards limits how many links you can post at a time. copy and paste if you're interested. kyacrash
Ok I won't bore you with stories for the rest of these bands (that and I don't really have any), but like I said in the other post, here's recent and not so recent hardcore that I'm into. bigbruise
Wisdom In Chains huh? I just seen a band post about them on FB. I will check out all your suggestions. Also, Backtrack rules my face off..I'm under the assumption that one of them runs Reaper Records...confirm?

Also, Backtrack rules my face off..I'm under the assumption that one of them runs Reaper Records...confirm? No, the dude who runs Reaper Records is named Patrick Kitzel. I don't think he's in any band, but he supports a ton of hardcore from the New York area and I think Backtrack are from Long Island. Also, Reaper Records is fucking awesome. Very rarely do I support every band on a label, but their track record says otherwise as far as I'm concerned. I buy almost every new release of theirs even if the band is new to me. Case in point, one of their latest releases is a band called Chosen Ones. Not traditional hardcore, probably more straight up punk rock, but they fucking wail. Can't stop spinning the LP ever since I got it. Reaper Records is to me what Fat Wreck Chords is to 99% of this board lol. bigbruise

I still gotta check out everyone else's suggestions too. It would be cool if the few of us on this board that like this stuff can keep adding to this thread when we find new music to share with each other. I'll admit often times if I see a thread for a band I'm not familiar with I just pass over it, assuming it's to the liking of the majority of this board and not me. bigbruise
I'm still waiting on that Mindset LP, pretty pumped for that to arrive. I find new music daily it seems, I'm a new music whore I swear. Never satisfied. Also, check out The Wrath. I'm going to be working with these guys and this release is fucking rad! http://thewrath.bandcamp.com/ http://www.facebook.com/thewrath831 They have more of a thrash feel to them, but again, I pretty much blanket anything under hardcore. kyacrash
Music is tough, not sure how I feel about the vocals. Could grow on me though. To expand on our love for hardcore.. what are some of the best shows you guys have seen? I'd be interested to see what shows you guys caught back in the day. Mine are... #1. Back to back Give Up The Ghost shows right after the name change a little bit before the break up. One of my favorite bands of all time. Only been able to see them 5 or 6 times in total, including the reunion show in NYC this past year. That shit made my year. #2. Suicide File's last show at Hellfest '03(?) #3. Terror's first tour with Blood for Blood when they only had the 4 song demo. Man, I went to so many shows and they were all awesome, but I was young and at the time they just seemed normal so many are lost memories now. There are a few that stand out though -The first time I saw American Nightmare was pretty amazing though, in '01at CBGB's too. The night before the show I got my first tattoo at Vinnie Stigma's shop and then saw him at the show (he was playing with this NYHC all-star band). He gave me a shout out though and for a 17 year old kid it was pretty fucking awesome. -And seeing AN again at the Boston reunion show and both NYC shows last year. -More recently I went to Trapped Under Ice's record release show for Big Kiss Goodnight. Fucking incredible. Lineup was Turnstile, Build + Destroy, Stout, The Rival Mob, Wisdom in Chains, and TUI. All at this tiny fucking basement club in Baltimore called Charm City Art Space. I thought the walls were going down for sure.
