Guest deleted
So I finally got around to listening to the Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey RSD release Millions - Live in Denver and holy shit does it kick ass. I'm already pretty obsessed with the band, but it's about time they released a live album on vinyl. Anybody else pick it up and check it out? I like this band but don't generally go for live albums. Might have to get this on your recommend tho. Thanks!

Yes. Nobody is going to mention him because he tends to fall under the radar. I haven't heard a lot from him, but he's dope. ahlawi

lexicondevil
I forgot to mention the great Placebo, fantastic Belgian 70s funky fusion jazz. Especially Ball Of Eyes is a classic record! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVR1aSENdeU Thank you for reminding me about these guys. Picked them up for 20% off at the 1234Go sale. If anyone likes these guys you should check out Ian Carr's Nucleus for funky, fusion, prog jazz. http://youtu.be/b-Cu5TJm0GI There is also a bad psych band named from Toronto called Nucleus, don't get them mixed up. pamfletty
Also, these placebo reissues are only the second official pressings. There are bootlegs around. I had one once, didn't sound too bad, but nothing beats the official pressings. The first pressings cost way too much, so be sure to pick up the official reissue. Some guy on a Belgian vinyl board just scored an original pressing of Ball Of Eyes at a flea market, for a whopping $3. Highest selling copy of this on popsike is $1442! mrrom92
Has anyone picked up any of the new Blue Note "75" presses? Just wondering if they're as terrible as the Scorpion Blue Note shit. Theyre a step above but still mastered from digital transfers... Just higher res and official. There's much better sounding AAA vinyl out there I heard a few songs by Django Reinhardt the other day and enjoyed them. Where's a good place in his discography to start? at a garage sale the other day I came across an early 50's 10" with his last recorded date... It's pretty good but I'm guessing that's a good place to end. It's my first django on vinyl anyhow.
kmarkettonkos
Anyone collecting the blue note 75th anniversary reissues? The records really don't sound that bad (the fastidious audiophiles can disagree) and they are a neat way to get into some new records each month if you're not already a knowledgeable fan of the blue note catalog. I've been buying most as they come out each month and I've enjoyed most of them. Better than paying hundreds for an original if you're just getting into a lot of this stuff. dickcritter

I think they sound great for the price. As mentioned above.
mikeburns
Miles Davis - In A Silent Way and Sketches of Spain sound superb on Mofi. Sketches is the best Ive ever heard this album, the soundstage is noticeably wider and the sound is magnificent. In a Silent Way is also amazing. If you are thinking about getting these records the Mofi is really the way to go if you can afford the $30 US price tag... recommended! agaetisbyrjun

somethingvinyl
This fest is coming up soon and I was thinking of attending. Anybody familiar with these bands/musicians? http://www.hotribscooljazz.org/line-up/ Earl Klugh has a bunch of releases but I've never listened to his stuff. I know a few of those bands: Funky Butt Brass Band are from St. Louis, but they kind of play in the style of New Orleans brass bands. It's okay. The Soul Rebels are a band that play brass band fused with hip hop. Fun, good tunes. And seriously, if you have the opportunity, go see Terence Blanchard. He is unreal. He has the unfortunate experience of being born in the 60's. He was prime in the 80's and 90's when jazz died. He plays hardbop in vein of 60's Davis. But he created an avenue for himself career wise doing film scores. His music is beautiful. Catch him (I live here, he's from here and I cannot catch him):

GHOSTDRONES
Been really digging into jazz lately. Grew up playing sax and idolizing Charlie Parker. Been grabbing a ton of Miles Davis (CD box sets with the complete John Coltrane sessions and the complete Bill Evans sessions) as well as diving into Ornette Coleman and Coltrane's later period. RowBearToe
Saw some people mention Art Blakely & the Jazz Messengers as essential jazz earlier and want to check them out. Found these albums for $8 or less in good condition: - Hard Drive - In My Prime Vol. 1 - Straight Ahead - Art Blakely with the Original Jazz Messengers - Live at Kimball's - Live at Sweet Basil Are any of these albums must haves? Or stand out more than the others? If you could only grab 1, which would it be?
somethingvinyl
Live albums are hit or miss, for anyone. Probably grab AB and the Original Jazz Messengers. RowBearToe
