This is beautiful, just saw they also had vinyl but sold out...

I was hooked in the first 15 seconds (a rarity for me). A discogs seller had a lower number pressing of Winter Lady (sold out on bandcamp and Denovali) for basically the same cost with shipping.

The less rare pressings were still available last time I checked.  I did buy some mp3's of other tracks, and maybe an entire release, as there were overlaps or vinyl was sold out / not available anywhere.

The Mylene Sheath has the duo with Leonardo in their distro which I picked up when they had a BOGO earlier this summer. Shipping is a lot cheaper than Denovali who still has Winter Lady, Highwaymen 10", and Dear and Unfamiliar http://denovali.com/shop/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=birds+of+passage&osCsid=7ceu9s77folt7p65bp17a9djr6&x=-303&y=-1117

A gold mine of information archived here for neophytes like myself.

Ambient is not my forte', but where it overlaps with post-whatever, whatever-gaze, or direct recommendations by friends who know what I avidly collect, those have been my pickups . The subtleties of the different Ambient artists is still something I'm learning to appreciate.

gonna plug Bass Communion. One of Steven Wilson (of Porcupine Tree)'s solo projects where he releases his ambient/drone material.

this one is my current favourite, and PT fans will recognise it from Lips of Ashes: 43553E99.01

second favourite sounds like it could be ambient noise in an Elder Scrolls game: Glacial 1602

Drugged (long version)

Loss

I generally prefer the ones that have some sort of melody going on, the drone stuff isn't as interesting for me. some drone-y tracks include Pacific Codex, Corrosive 1702, Citadel and Ghosts on Magnetic Tape.

the former style is mostly present on Bass Communion I, II and III, and the newer drone-oriented albums feature the occasional nice track

The Basinski LP boxset on Temporary Residence is gorgeous... anyone else got that?

Not yet, but I'm lining up finances to do so.  It's a significant chunk of change, and I've been eying the remaining copies for a month or so now.  Soon.  Very soon.

Amen. I give no fucks about tote bags, but I like his work so much so that I wanted to be one of the first 10 to order it, till I saw it was $45 for that shit.

Right?  The worst part is that I highly doubt it'll see a U.S. release, or even a distro appearance.

Nils Frahm is amazing

I love a lot of this stuff, so here goes a list. I probably skew a little towards the classical side though. Maybe tomorrow I'll dig up some youtubes:

Hildur Gudnadottir

Haushka

Tim Hecker (Ravedeath, 1972 is a good starting place)

Julia Kent

Dictaphone

Johann Johannsson

Max Richter (especially 24 Postcards)

David Lang ("Child" is my favorite)

Pantha du Prince/Bell Orchestra

Eat Lights Become Lights

Ignatz

Jasper tx

My most recent find:
Warm Digits (kind of early kraftwerk with gnarly guitars)

And definitely check out these two records from last year, both are amazing.

Snow Palms - Intervals

Land Observations - Roman Roads

Here's my favorite site for this kind of stuff http://reviews.headphonecommute.com

That's a good website, I saw they reviewed Ben Lukas Boysen's "Gravity"... It's a good album, you should check it out.

Also, Sakamoto & Willits "Ancient Future" is a great piece.

Tim Hecker has a new album coming out, Ravedeath was really good, so looking forward to that.

Just got a shipping confirmation for my Slow Walkers LP (Grouper & Lawrence English). Was worried I wasn't going to be able to get one (out of /400 IIRC). Very excited.

I got my copy in the mail yesterday. I didn't get a confirmation though. Weird. It is beautiful and the album rules. Apparently it is getting a repress with new cover art for those who missed it the first time around. I guess they oversold a bit.

Ravedeath, 1972 is a great album.  I saw him live last summer and he pretty much just played that album, it was fantastic!  The Dropped Pianos EP is a good listen too.

Yeah, both of these are great. I felt lucky to stumble on the vinyl of both of these a few months back. I'm excited about his upcoming record as well.

I'm listening to Slow Walkers now on spotify. So far I'm really liking it.
