Buy a Vintage Technics Quartz locked Direct Drive Or: Sony PSX70 I personally love the JVC QL-4s, fixed up one for a friend, really liked it. $60 bucks on eBay, they tend to go for about this to 120. Most Technics from this era are good tables. They made many 3XX models. I've had a 300, 303 and a 325. Oddly I always have a hard time finding manuals and info on this series. I'd pick that up for $30.

Any receiver will power them, but a more powerful receiver will power them and make them sound better. Don't get caught up with the Max power ratings on receivers or amps. At 400watts max you are going to have a very hard time blowing them with any amp. I'd recommend you pick up a 70's era Marantz or Pioneer. Even the old silver Kenwoods are very nice and are the cheaper of the 2 brands. Also keep in mind that a 1977 receiver rated at 50 w per channel will be more powerful then a 2010 receiver claiming the same thing. I dont know why but it is the case. Possible has something to do with the lower volumes putting out higher power then ones these days. Nice speakers!

Nice !!! Love those speakers! I get almost all my items at yard sales. Picked up a Marantz 4400 and Sony PX70 with speakers and carts for $40, all working! Sold the speakers for $100, went record shopping, made money out of my setup purchase! Last weekend I got a pair of DCM Timeframe TF600 hi-fi speakers in perfect condition for only $20. Not to mention the 20 other pairs of great speakers I've gotten. Yard sale finds often go to eBay for huge profits!

A good direct drive will beat any belt driven table IMHO. Good being the important word here. The late 70s to mid 80s were a great time from direct drive tables. I have used DDs from JVC, Sony and Pioneer that I just loved them. Nothing beats a DD motor with quick stop that stops the platter in 1/4 a turn. The reason most table are belt driven has more to do with manufacturing costs.

For the price you pay for a Debut 3 you can get a WAY better used vintage table. I don't understand why people waste their money on their ugly things. Your dollar will go way way way way waaaaaay further if you buy a used vintage table. Pay a LOT of attention to the cartridge on the table, they are often worth way more then the tables people are selling them on and have MUCH MORE to do with the sound of the table then the actual table itself. Buy a vintage table, then buy a new Denon moving coil with the money you saved. Then enjoy! I am currently selling a Pioneer PL-570 Direct Drive on the Bay, starting bid $500, that's the kinda table you buy!

Sony is a brand that needs to be looked at at a each item level. Some of the things they make now are bad. But some are awesome. Did you know Sony was awarded the best price no option loudspeakers in 2011 by Absolute Sound? I have used several 80s and 90s amps from Sony, some are really great. I will NEVER get rid of my Sony Table, a PX70 (hooked up to a Marantz 4400, paid $40 for the pair in full working condition along with speakers, moving coil carts and more...yard sales are wonderful) - www.thevintageknob.org/sony-PS-X70.html HOWEVER - I would never recommend anyone with an interest in turntable and records to buy a new receiver unless they need the HDMI or multi-channel inputs. First problem, no phono input. 2nd problem, new amp design is not made for turntables and analog sound. Typically use Class H power switching, lots of technical jargon here.... My suggestion, by a vintage amp and buy one of the following DAC: http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/article/review-fiio-e10-hrt-headstreamer-and-nuforce-udac-2se-usb-dacheadphone-amplifiers The E10 runs 80 bucks! You can really make your dollar go farther by buying used audio stuff. You can even get some great high end amps from the 90s for around $500 bucks. Man get a Aragon 2004 or 4004 with a good pre-amp or something.

Yeah it could be many things, but lets consider that everything is hooked up and balanced correctly cause a dealer set it up for you. Easiest thing to first try is get a ground loop isolator cable and try putting that in your setup to minimize and ground issues that you are hearing once the music stops.

Sorry guys, I don't see any issue with the search or the categories. Remember one thing, the normal search is at the top. The exact band name search and the categories must be filled out by the person doing the listing. So if they didn't use them, they won't show up. But the search works fine. Type in the word, press enter, and you get the results. Enter does not trigger the form submit in Chrome. You have to click Search. Search criteria is "sticky" so if you change categories it changes and searches, feature or bug? Oh and just list the LP at the price you want to sell it for if you are worried about it selling, reserve prices are dumb, I don't even bid or watch reserve auctions. It's like going to eat but you can only look at the pictures unless you offer them just the right amount. Dumb. Site looks cool but there is not enough music on here, 4 pages of crappy pop punk crap....

There are a ton, what are the other parts of your system? Check out yard sales and thrift stores. I used a 25 dollar "hi-fi" phone pre-amp I got off eBay for a few years. It worked, it was just a basic boost in the decibel level. It wasn't until I replaced that with another small amp that I realized it was not boosting enough really, my speakers didn't really jump. The amp on amp action was tricky because I could easily cause some clipping issues if I turned the first, pre, amp up too high. I ended up getting a EQ which was the best thing I did in years, got a new used amp and removed the extra amp from the system. For under 100 bucks you could get a new used amp/receiver that has a built in phono (Technics receivers sell for cheap and are pretty nice, if it has a phono input with a ground it has a built in pre-amp), and then a EQ, plug this into your tape loop, to tweak your sound for your room, and you might even have money left over for some records.
