  6. Fuck! This thread sucks. You know what I like? Records! Don't give a shit about color, cover, vinyl thickness. If I can put it on my turntable and listen to some great tunes, I'm happy. If those tunes happen to be on a more limited color of vinyl, that's a small bonus, but in no way a deal breaker. Colored vinyl is cool; black vinyl is cool; records are cool.

    Stars - The North

I searched for a thread and didn't see one so please let me know if there is already a thread for this. NPR just posted the stream for the new Stars album "The North" and it's pretty awesome. There are 2 vinyl options apparently. Gold w/ White Sleeve thats out of 500 and randomly shipped to stores across Canada and US. There is also a blue version available on their webstore for pre-order (ships from Canada unfortunately though so it's quite expensive). http://store.youarestars.com/the-north/stam-021-stars-the-north-12-vinyl/

  11. I had never seen this before. Hilarious. If you're treating vinyl as a stock investment, you're probably doing it wrong.

  13. I'm never interested in reading these things, it's always the same- Brand New, Thrice, etc etc. Mind you, I'm not mocking collections by any means, but it just feels like I'm reading the same article over and over again. I get it, people really like Brand New and Thrice.

    MAN ADVICE

ron swanson? you like simple men who like breakfast food? why don't people take you seriously? do you talk to men about hex codes when youre drunk? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ as far as music, i always ask people what kind of music they listen to. it's a good indicator of what kind of person they are. i especially enjoy looking through people's music collections.

  20. Will keep everyone posted when they are in hand. I think I'll have some of the original version on HWC/Friction as well as the later press on Sargent House.

  21. Music is a great way to get to know a glimpse of someone you might be interested in, either as someone you want to date or even as a friend. I always try and bring up music early when getting to know anyone. For me music is 50% about the actual music and 50% about the message that goes with it. My favorite bands almost exclusively share my political ideology, and frequently sing about it. So if I bring up Propagandhi and / or Frank Turner and whomever I'm talking to knows who they are and likes them, it's highly likely that our political ideology will match up. If they bring up that Toby Keith is there favorite musician then I know there is probably going to be little in common between us. Music is the socially acceptable way that I try and get to know some of the basics of what a person is about. However I'd never say that music is a dealbreaker with a potential mate. Political ideology and religious beliefs are the only ultra-mega dealbreakers. It's not even that someone has to share the same religious view as me, but it has to be compatible. My last relationship was with a girl who was quite religious, and her family was incredibly religious. I am a polite but aggressive atheist. I'll never deny my beliefs to appease a lady or her family. I won't rub it in others face that I find their beliefs outdated and dangerous, but I won't lie and say that god is my one true savior. So that is why I early on use music to politely gauge a persons beliefs. If I can play Frank Turners "Glory Hallelujah" and don't freak out, then I know there is at least a potential common ground for friendship. If they freak out, then I there's nothing I love more than talking religion with people who disagree with me.

  28. The latest collector of the month may have few records but the main thing that I thought was lame / laughable was that he said he didn't focus on having a nice turntable / setup - that's more stupid than only having 150 records...

  30. There's probably quite a few reasons for Hydra Head's ultimately demise, but I'm almost positive that $20 LPs vs $15 LPs is not one of them. If people want an album, they'll buy it, and HH has worked with enough "big name" bands that selling records was probably the least of their problems ... even with all the smaller, extreme left-of-center outfits on the roster. Running a label myself, I'm left thinking, "if Hydra Head can't make it, what chance do I have?" On the other hand, I've worked at (relatively) successful labels long enough to also wonder, "what the hell was HH doing wrong?" Most of us will never be close enough to the situation to find out ... but damn - I sure do wish I was a fly on the wall in HH's offices over the past year. Anyway, I always appreciated their aesthetic and uncompromising attitude. I just ordered the Oceanic 2xLP. It cost me $26 with shipping - and I already owned the CD - but whatever. Hyrdra Head undoubtedly forged its own path in the world and you gotta respect that, even if you didn't always respect all their decisions in regards to pricing, etc etc.

  35. i had never really connected it with 9/11, but i guess that one line does lend itself to that interpretation. geoff says here that it wasn't a direct commentary on 9/11, so i don't know: http://en.wikipedia....the_Time_(song) i always thought it was cool that it was named after a line from a charles bukowski poem though

    MAN ADVICE

My co-worker told me about this one howaboutwe.com. You fill out a small profile with some interesting questions and then post actual date ideas and people can let you know whether they are interested in doing that date. You can get pretty creative and it offers some nice ice breaking opportunities. I actually just had a date with this really cool girl last night. After the date we exchange phone numbers and she said that she wanted to hang out with me again. I'm also taking Madie's advice about not blowing up her phone. Though I am stressing as to when to tell her why I'm single after all. Also anxious about why she is single.

    MAN ADVICE

I love the Tick, the comic and I loved the show and cartoon. Anyway I have had dates from a few sites and every girl I met was somewhat mentally imbalanced. The positive part was that if sex didn't happen on the first date it happened on the second. The negative part was than they became crazy. It was like I am not going to show how crazy I am till we have sex and than I am going to unlock pandora's box.

  45. I don't always like your posts, but when I do, it's this one. Also, I've never listened to Changing of the Times because the one song I've heard from it was the one with that doofy synth intro that's like "I thought you'd come back, so I praaaaaaay" and I just get annoyed and turn it off. Am I missing out?
