    Breaking up box sets

I really have trouble discerning if Moonbeams is a sentient being or some sort of highly specific, highly advanced AI that ponders the logistical conundrums of being a consumer of vinyl records.

  5. I hate to be "that guy" that starts "that thread" about "that record"...but fuck it I had a plan for someone to snag one of these at the Phila show (major props to Adam Fox for trying) but unfortunately for me they sold out in 2 seconds. I want to keep my Wonder Years collection going (see my trade list) and it looks like this is going to be the difficult record to get from this release....so help me out....I will be forever grateful. I'll take any release from any show...it doesn't matter...My upsides record release is from Boston and I have never even been there...hah EDIT Jabroni102 got me a Record Release Copy of The Greatest Generation...what a great dude! I am on the lookout for a copy from the Pop Up Shop...I know it is a long shot but if anyone is willing to part with it...I'm your man! EDIT!! so apparently the pop up shop slip cover is exactly the same as the record release show LP slip cover...it just says pop up shop on it...all of them are limited to 50...for a total of 250...because of this, I'm just counting the slip cover as one variant and wont be needing the pop up shop copy Thank you to everyone who helped me in this endeavor...It was a nutty ride...haha

    The COMMUNITY Thread

This season blew ass. In the whole first 3 seasons, I can only think of 2 memorably weak episodes: Abed-as-Jesus and Model UN. But I would rank those 2 over any of season 4's episodes. Last week's origin story episode was the biggest wank fest ever, even for a show that's always been up its own ass a little bit. The entire episode seemed to be constructed to jerk off the segment of the Community fanbase that edits their own shipper videos set to Snow Patrol songs and makes [shudder] fan art. "Yeah, congratulations on remembering details alluded to in season one, look we actually filmed them for you so it's easier to make gif sequences for your Tumblr". And then they casually create massive continuity issues like Troy breaking his leg instead of his shoulders, and a dollar theater showing Phantom Menace in 2008. Nothing was improved by making these old stories come to life and stringing together some fabricated connections, they would have been better off left to the imagination. It's fitting that there's a Phantom Menace storyline, because I got the exact same feeling watching that episode as I did watching the Star Wars prequels. Don't even get me started on the finale, where they simultaneously beat the Darkest Timeline shtick to death and dig up the cold body of paintball only to hump its corpse a bit. It's a perfect encapsulation of just how badly the new writing staff doesn't get why people like the show. They've tried so hard to reference every popular thing from past seasons (Darkest Timeline! An Inspector Spacetime convention! The Dean just cross-dresses all the time now! Bring back the German foosball players!) but missed the fact that the show was great because (at least at the beginning) it was about exploring interpersonal relationships and the human condition, through 7 super fucked-up characters, the most normal of which is a socially underdeveloped pop culture obsessive with Aspergers. Of course, Chevy Chase's unwillingness to cooperate and eventual quitting hasn't helped, and the resulting lazy and awkward write-outs and write-arounds have been a massive distraction this year. All I know is that I'm done. This show doesn't interest me anymore, the characters have been sucked dry and I'm completely uninterested in the direction the show is going. Season 5 might be better, it might be worse, but the magic of the earlier seasons is gone and it's just another sitcom.

  23. For what it's worth, my post wasn't aimed at you. But rather the OP. Dude essentially strolled into an Urban Outfitters and is trying to bank off that fact. Pretty much the polar opposite of the goodness that happens in this thread.

  26. Dark days, but fuck did I get offered some money. It was under $1,000 but over $699 for 6 records. That's going to help me out so much in my new place. Of course, they were the rarest variants of each record

    "Hide" threads?

I get how the system is set up. I just think that (using an example that isn't a controversial thread) even though Travis started the MLB Discussion thread, it's not "his" thread to delete or do what he wishes with. It belongs to the group because they have built it up with 500 pages of posts. Would clearly be a dick move if he deleted it (which he wouldn't). The baseball thread example is a clearer case than the boobs thread, which falls into a grey area. I get it. I'm not upset that it is gone. The system can't recognize that at some point, the OP shouldn't be able to delete for certain "key" threads. And it's not a big deal because people aren't going around deleting "terrible sellers" or "post your collection". I guess I'll just say that the OP in this thread had a better idea (in my opinion) than deleting threads, which is the ability to remove them from your front page. That is the solution that would make everyone happy. And just for completeness, I know it was a different time in VC as far as level of moderation but the "manly man thread" and "boobs appreciation thread" are still not as obscene as the number of threads that had that anatomical picture of a vagina in someone's signature. Yeah, you can block sigs. But that was FAR more likely to cause an uncomfortable moment when your boss walks by than the boobs thread being accidentally clicked.

  39. "I'll save you all $500! Got a hockey puck?!" -Every audio board ever.
    1 point
  40. Yeah, I've learned that it's never a sound-per-dolar debate, not when you're talknig about serious hi-fi. It's all about "I love my setup, but how can I squeeze just a tiny bit more out of it". I'm not even close to there (yet ), but I do understand the notion. At this point for example I could never justify spending $500 on a record clamp, because there are so many other segments I could improve way more for the same cost. But there exists a point where a $500 record clamp IS the best improvement for the cost.
    1 point
  41. So if I replace my Bren1 Record Clamp for a Stillpoints Ultra LP Isolator, will my music sound $500 better? I kid, I kid. Methinks that if I had more of a disposable income, my audio-related purchases would know no bounds. Of course, it does bring up some interesting points about the law of diminishing returns. I would love love love to hear shaizada's system, simply to experience something really high end ... but also to compare it to what I've grown accustomed to, which is decidedly low-to-mid-fi. No doubt that it would best my gear easily, but I wonder by how much.
