  1. You're too gracious. You'd give up an album that you purchased as trade bait for an album that's been out of print for 10 years??! We need more members like you.

    Hey.

Hey everyone, sorry about the lack of information. Didn't realize there was so much into it, and didn't really want to make anyone annoyed or angry with my questions. I was just simply seeking guidance. I should've done some research, yes. I was planning on doing it when I had some free time, but I'm just checking the site in between breaks at work, I'm sorry if I aggravated you, man. I don't want to ruin my records, and I'm not just solely collecting them. I'd like to listen to them from the player extensively, which is why I asked what was a good setup instead of a Crosley or anything. Again, sorry for any headaches I've caused by asking simple questions. :s I'd like to not ruin my records, as I'm trying to invest in some older ones that I'd like to spin and not have to re-purchase/re-find in the near future. My interest is in both departments equally. It just seemed really cool, and having some more things from all of my favorite bands/artists that I listen to just seems like a pretty cool hobby to pick up on to me. As for everyone else, thank you for your responses, I'm currently reading the "Beginner's Guide to Hi-Fi" thread at the moment. Much to learn.

  4. Back on the topic of the test pressing. The very first pressing of Aenima was released Sept 17, 1996. Under zoo entertainment. This test pressing exist and is numbered on the back of a normal Aenima jacket . It did not come in a white sleeve. Interesting fact is Aenima release dat was Oct 1st 1996, on compact disc. Weird but true. There was a second pressing done on Dec 31st , 1996 by RTI Records. The label on the back of this jacket says Zoo Entertainment/BMG. (The retail copy ) This test pressing did come in white die cut sleeves and yes it was sealed. Now the classic records auction above was something done in 2001, 200 g remastered vinyl. For some reason it was never released. Original these copies sold for $400 online. What you see above is test pressing by classic records. pressed but never was released. It was discovered when they liquidated. Another company purchased classic records. I am not a expert on the history of classic records however I am on Tool merchandise . Hope I helped a few people . I signed up to this site just to type this message lol. SPIRAL out!

    Hey.

+1 How much you spend is not the issue it's how wisely you spend it. A Crosley or similar is no advert for the vinyl experience, convenient they may be but as with a lot of things in audio what you gain in convenience you most definitely loose in quality. As Slinch says a $20 turntable from a thrift store would be much more preferable, it doesn't take a lot of on line research to find out what is a good buy and what isn't, with mobile internet nowadays you can research a bit of hifi standing in front of it in a thrift store.

  6. Finally got my car to pass emissions! Other highilght of the day was I bought cheap Xbox 360s on Craigslist and traded them into Best Buy for more than I paid for them. Turned $210 cash into $500 in gift cards. Xbox One, here I come. Today was great.

    Hey.

No hard feelings, nobody is aggravated or angry here. The numbers are scary, but I'm not telling the entire truth. If you just want to listen to your vinyl in a safe and sane setting, you don't need to spend nearly that much. You can go far by finding a decent vintage table on eBay, a 70s silver face receiver, and any halfway decent bookshelf speakers. Throw on a new cartridge, align it properly, set the right tracking force, and you'll be in heaven. Unfortunately with more and more people getting into analog systems the prices for basic 70s/80s turntables is skyrocketing. But if you want to listen to music as an analytical (not a social) hobby, you do need to splurge on more equipment to extract the most information from your records, and $1000 is the starting point. And that's with a headphone rig. You wouldn't be able to match the same fidelity with loudspeakers until double that cost.

    Hey.

Sorry, but that's some horrible advice. I'm not saying it's necessary to spend a lot, but there are far better ways to spend little. A vintage thrift store table for $20 would be better, as well as much less damaging for records. I'm sure that every single person who decides to explore this hobby has at least some way to listen to music, be it an old stereo or computer speakers. Hooking that vintage table to a $20 phono preamp and into whatever speakers that person is currently using for listening will be cheaper and better than a crosley. As far as not spending more before knowing this hobby is for you, I'll just copy what I've written numerous times:

  12. If I'm reading a message board devoted to records and I'm reading a thread about a sale at a vendor, a helpful post would say something like "Hey, this vendor has a lot of cheap records, but I don't agree with the way they handle their shipping department. They've filled the orders out of place which has possibly led to me missing out on some releases. If this sort of thing bothers you, you may want to skip ordering from this vendor". This comes across as a much more intelligent comment instead of talking about being all hurt up in your ass about not getting everything you've ordered. Ever hear the saying, "You get what you pay for"? In a perfect world, all online ordering sites would have real time inventory instead of taking the records out of stock when the order gets filled. Unfortunately that isn't the case. I'm following this thread because it's fun to see what gems people can find in an online bargain bin. I've now placed 4 orders, and even if I don't get everything, I'll still be getting a great deal. Free shipping. Cheap records that I've wanted to own, and a refund for what I don't get. The way I look at it, I'm not entitled, and if I happen to get lucky on a couple of records, then cool. TLDR: You can't always get what you wanted. Learn to deal with it and you'll be less disappointed with life.

I have 3 turntables with 2 currently being used in the main listening room. The 2 tables are: - VPI TNT VI Hot Rod, JMW 12.5 Tonearm, VPI HRX Motor, VPI Super Platter, VPI SDS Speed Controller, Van Den Hul Grasshopper III GLA Moving Coil Cartridge. Also using a Jorma Design Unity RCA interconnect I just got, from the turntable to an EAR 324 phonostage. - Scheu Premier III, Schroeder Model 2 Tonearm, Jan Allaerts MC Cartridge Using a whole bunch of phono stage depending on mood for sound presentation. They all sound different and I enjoy listening to them. - EAR 324 - Jadis DPMC - Einstein "The Turntables Choice" - Eddie Current Transcription - Ray Samuels F-117 Nighhawk

  27. 1) What was your favorite album of 2013? Incendiary - Cost Of Living 2) What was the best live show you attended in 2013? gonna have to go with The Biohazard, Wisdom In Chains, Lifeless, Suburban Scum show in August. Great show and got in for free because I bought a ticket to a Fest being held at the same club at a later date, also Wisdom In Chains played their album "Die Young" from front to back and I always thought its cool when bands do that. Runner up would have to goto Cold World, The Rival Mob, Naysayer, Tough Luck at the Church in Philly. 3) What was your favorite vinyl variant you purchased in 2013? 4) What was your favorite reissue of 2013? Temple Of The Dog - Self Titled. Album is absolutely brilliant and been a personal favorite of mine for years. 5) Which of the four records would you like to win? (select one) Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory

so you'd rather have the worst defender at that position than some young kid who can still improve? miggy sucks at 3b, why you'd want to block castellanos from that position because of his minor league numbers is just really weird man.

  41. Well, you put up an official piece of content knocking another site so why should AP deserve the teflon treatment? Seriously, it was a record sale and inventory got messed up. It happens all the time but if you want to let one of your contributors officially cry like a baby about being "cheated" then you've opened yourself up to it this time.
