  3. I don't think complaining on an internet message board changes much. However. Shit like this is potentially bad for a large portion of people that use this site. If you have been around and listening to records for a while, you might recall the reason many of us got into this - we enjoy the music, it allows us to physically connect to a medium that is becoming more and more digitized, and maybe we enjoy the sound/nostalgia of notes coming from a piece of plastic that we pretend sounds better than any other form of music. But when labels/stores think they can charge $35 for something that is worth $15 and get away with it - because it will sell out/people will buy it/'we gotta keep the doors open! - it starts to (economically) become a huge problem for a portion of us. Because soon, I know this might sound crazy, but other labels and stores will think "hey that one store sold it and sold out" why shouldn't I? And what became something a lot of us started doing because it was cost-effective has driven us out by a hobby mentality. So you might think it'd be a 'stupid reason' to sell a product will sell out for a cheaper price, but some people out there don't think that way. We tend to have a slightly more positive spin on things and think that taking advantage of customers might not be the best thing in the world. TL;DR - I like listening to my records and would prefer they stay in a price range I can afford.

  13. Do you honestly think the future of independent music retail is in banking on charging too much for pointless cash grab reissues? Are you excited about that vision of the future? And yeah, I'd buy it if it were 15 bucks cheaper. THAT'S THE POINT. I have nothing against an indie chain teaming up with labels to do something special. That's cool. It's when they don't even try to hide that this is all about money for them, they clearly don't care because they'll sell through the pressing even if it means putting a bad taste in some potential customers' mouths. It's certainly not a sustainable model. And let's look at the labels involved with Newbury so far: Sub Pop, Jagjaguwar, Asthmatic Kitty, Fat Possum. Big labels with big valuable catalogs that don't need to sell 1500 more copies of a top-seller (Bleach is PLATINUM, motherfucker) in order to keep the lights on. Honestly, it really just reflects poorly on them that their releases are being sold at such an inflated cost when you can get the black version for less than half what Newbury is selling them for. Nah

  14. Yeah I know, everyone on here is an economics major whenever someone gets pissed when a record is overpriced. It's not "supply & demand" it's straight up taking advantage of peoples naivety. Some will buy it but I certainly won't. $35 is way too goddamn much for a 25 yr old record with absolutely nothing new on it. Let me be completely honest. This release is for young kids with their parent's credit card & hair trigger impulses. RSD is coming up and this shit will sell like hot cakes but it doesn't make it okay.

  25. Oh c'mon. This reminds me of a gal I grew up with and lives a house a way from my parents house... she has a young daughter who is going through some really bad things with her health. I'm not fully aware of what's happening, but she is slated for brain surgery. So like any mother, this gal is bringing her to doctors and even went to Childrens Hospital in Philly for the best treatment. They've been trying to avoid surgery by using other treatments. So yesterday she posts on Facebook that her daughter is improving and might not need surgery - which is what the doctors at Childrens have been working hard to accomplish - and she says that it was all God's work and it's because of God that her daughter won't need surgery. I mean, it's fantastic that she's improving and getting better. But I don't understand the need to discredit the science and the hard work of these doctors that are curing her. If you have faith, that's awesome and all, but if someone (in this case, she is this someone) has a child (her now sick daughter) with a man she's not married to (against her religion), and is currently pregnant with another man's child who she is not married to (also against her religion), why would it be God and not science? Just like the weather. It's not God punishing the gays. It's science.

  27. I own the green pressing of The Artist In The Ambulance that's suppose to have a really pixelated cover and last I checked I'm still alive.

  28. Not referring to this release specifically as I don't think there's any legitimate issues, but I don't necessarily think it's ridiculous for someone to complain about album cover pixelation or any other real issue regarding the physical product. When you're paying $25+ (or $65 for the overseas folks) for a record these days, there certainly should be a certain level of quality control on the manufacturers part. Just my two cents...

  32. also, True Detective laying down the truth: Hart: I mean, can you imagine if people didn't believe, what things they'd get up to? Cohle: Exact same thing they do now. Just out in the open. Hart: Bullshit. It'd be a fucking freak show of murder and debauchery and you know it. Cohle: If the only thing keeping a person decent is the expectation of divine reward, then brother that person is a piece of shit; and I'd like to get as many of them out in the open as possible.

do it dude! podcasting is fun, but it does take time. a weekly show sounds easy to do but it can be somewhat overwhelming at times, and consistency is a key factor when doing a show. I'd check it out though.

  41. I saw this tour on the first night. Deafheaven played 4 songs and got a great response. I was up front and almost everyone up there knew all the words. Then, BTBAM took the stage. They opened with the first two tracks off of Colors and it just seemed boring in comparison. I've been a BTABAM fan for a while now and their set wasn't much to watch after a blazing 35 minutes of Deafheaven. Upon leaving the show, I heard a guy tell his friend that "Deafheaven are a new band and Sunbather is their first album." (edit) George and Kerry are awesome guys. If you get the opportunity to talk with them for a bit, you should absolutely do so.
