  1. I'm sorry, that is completely fucking absurd. Maybe it's nearly impossible to you to listen to art created by dicks and enjoy it, but you're in the minority. I listen to plenty of Jazz musicians who were unfaithful and abusive to their wives. Hip-hop created by violent thugs. Classical composed by upper class drama queens of questionable morale character. experimental rock created by pompous, pretentious pricks. It does not affect my enjoyment of the art whatsoever. It is simply laughable to say their art directly comes from their hatred of transgendered people - as if there is nothing else to them besides what you don't like. Like I said, I think Whirr sucks, but if you can't appreciate art created by morally questionable people, you might be looking for a buddy, not an artist. to me, artists have no obligation to be nice folks who I'd like to get beers with. That's not what I look for in an artist - I look for good music that makes me feel something. Is sonic youth artistically discredited because Moore was cheating on Gordon? Is "American Pie" a shit song because Don McLean is a notorious asshole? More importantly, who the fuck cares what artists do in their personal lives? Are we not above tabloid-style gossip and witch hunts? Priorities, guys. Jesus.

  4. I haven't read every post in this thread yet but wanted to make a few things clear. - When I defended the band on Tumblr, I was referring to their shit talking of Pitchfork. Should I have been defending them at all? Definitely not. I had never (and still have never) seen the band say the word "faggot" or post anything transphobic until last night. That doesn't excuse the other stupid and offensive things they have said, but at one point in my life I felt that we had so many bands, and worked with so many individual people, that it was fundamentally impossible for everyone to have opinions in line with my own. This was a very naive and even harmful outlook to have. I realized that is not the way to approach these sort of situations and that as soon as anyone feels unsafe, marginalized, disrespected, threatened, or unaccepted, that whatever is happening is not ok. - All Whirr and Camera Shy merchandise will be removed from our store, we're working on it. - This is not a PR stunt. We are not dropping them to save face. We are not ceasing to work with them because of the hate we got on twitter, we simply hadn't seen the bands tweets yet until we were notified by the general public. We would have made this exact decision on our own, although the thousands of people tweeting at us definitely made it happen faster. If you have any questions, comments, or simply want to talk about this with me, please feel free to email me. [email protected]. I will respond to everyone so don't feel that your time may be wasted. Thank you. -jeff

  5. Can't believe there are people who aren't digging this. They took everything that was great about the EPs and amplified it. It's exactly what I was hoping for. In a world where people lose their shit over movie OSTs, hot topic splatter represses, and whatever the hell twiabp is doing it's refreshing to have a loud/raw album hit VC this hard. Reminds of the good ol' days.

  6. Everyone that hates Whirr now should check out Night School. They're like the inverse of Whirr with only the old singer and a new band. Also an LP about to drop. https://graveface.bandcamp.com/album/night-school-heart-beat

  17. I've never heard even a second of a Whirr song. Just want to say that when it comes to artists being shitty, it's one thing to enjoy a Beatles song despite their history of domestic abuse. It's another thing to directly financially support an artist in 2015 saying shitty things. Whether or not you listen to the Beatles does not affect the members at all. Whether or not you give money to an independent artist actually has an effect. I'm not saying do or don't, just that it's a case where speaking your opinion with your wallet is possible. There's also a huge difference between enjoying art and supporting it. If you like the tunes, listen. Just think about where your money is going if you decided to pay for something. I understand why RFC didn't do this, but I would have been fine with it of their decision had been to sell off the remaining stock of Whirr shit at some kind of discount, with some of the money going to charity. I feel for a small label having to eat that kind of investment. Like Broken World had to do with that David Belli split because the other artist turned out to be a sexual predator.

  18. I understand how free speech works, guys... The question I'm posing is: Isn't it equally (if not more) hateful to wish death on someone than to make fun of them for their gender orientation? As a society are we really going down this road where it's less acceptable to be politically incorrect than it is to wish harm on another human being, even if they are shitty people? Again, I don't agree with what Whirr said, but aren't these people equally guilty of hate?

  27. It's just, WHO do these transgenders think they are? They can just change their gender? Without me or anyone else saying its OK? What if we all did that? What if we all just lived the lives we wanted and didn't care whether a stranger online approved of it or not? Who wants to live in a world like that?

  31. Regarding this Dakota Bahney character, I'm confused. Everything I've read states that this person is female, but all the pictures I've seen and a video I watched leaves me scratching my head as to how they're not a dude. I hope this isn't considered transphobic or whatever, since on this board being transphobic is worse than being a pedophile, but seriously... I'm confused.

  39. put that shit on and listen to it....its not like these records are riddled with lyrics and music of hate. Yea these dudes are shitty now, they did and said some stuff that was really fucking dumb, but now everyone wants to unload all of their lps like its a fuckin' Skrewdriver lp or something... all this hoopla about the band today actually made me put "sway" on, and you know what I still dig it...it's a great fuckin' record....sucks that these dudes said some really awful stuff but remember before all this happened 24 hours ago you still liked that band and that record

  41. Kanye's act is a shtick that generates buzz. Him calling himself a God, or the greatest artist of our generation is not the same as telling a group of individuals to kill themselves, or ridiculing the way a group chooses to identify with their gender. I am far from a Tumblr-crazed SJW, but it's pretty apparent that Nick needs to grow up and stop bring less of a shitty human being. It's one thing if his "moral compass" is a little off kilter, but it's to the point where it's become obnoxious. When you rely on publicity from calling your fanbase "pussies", pride yourself in being a keyboard warrior in Facebook comments, and throw fits over mediocre Pitchfork reviews - after claiming that nothing you say should be taken seriously - yeah, you're a joke. I can't think of any other artist in my library who's as insufferably cringe-inducing as Nick / his "Twitter friend" / whoever runs their social media. I'm sure that someone in one of the many bands I enjoy does share some comparably unfortunate views, but the difference is that they aren't flaunting (even embracing) their shittyness, or trying to bank off it. "yuh br0 we'll compare ur fb default to cartoon characters we dont give a fuck lol check out our new album". So edgy. So sinisterly clever. Derp. You're right; I don't listen to Whirr because I thought they were pro-transgender. Their personal stance on the LGBT community is their own, and doesn't mean a whole lot to me. The obvious difference is that they're choosing to be blatant pricks about said stance. Their crying over Pitchfork scores and pathetic jabs at fans have always made me a little embarrassed to call myself a fan of the band, but I guess this was the breaking point for me. They take try-hard to a level that no other band does – of the hundreds of bands I choose to follow, anyway – so, yeah, it warrants a discussion. tl;dr – having shitty opinions > publicly flexing shitty opinions, or relying on them as a selling point for your band.
