  3. Hi everyone - this is John at AKR. I so appreciate you all as fans of vinyl. I can't constantly monitor this board and Reddit and the other things as part of my part-time-ish job, but I can post here for a minute and answer a few of your questions. re: general profit margin. We are making the same amount of money on this edition as we are the regular edition, and maybe even a little less. So to those folks here and a few other places who are thinking we're just cashing in, this is a really stupid way to cash in. Yes, we'll sell some more Illinois vinyl. But we're doing our best to make good music like this record accessible to as many people as possible without compromising on the art. re: shipping. Can't help it. It's calculated live by the USPS. The weight on this product is about 2.5 lbs which compensates for the extra goodie that we're working on. re: extra goodie. It won't change your life but I hope you'll think it's cool. We just had to work out a few logistics and we're waiting to announce it until January or so. re: black/colored vinyl. Black vinyl is a color. It's just the most ubiquitous. re: mastering. We had to re-plate in late 2014 and we went with Roger Seibel at SAE who is a mastering genius in my opinion. I don't always like everything Roger does, but he was perfect for this. The good news is that we went with triple-plating on this so we won't need to replate for a while. re: Avalanche. Working on it. This is the 10th anniversary of Illinois, so why would we celebrate Avalanche? Avalanche has some of my personal favorite Sufjan songs but it is an outtakes record. Illinois is the star. We'll get to it as soon as we can. Thanks again for all your support. We appreciate you all very much, and it's only because you keep buying the music we release that we can keep releasing new, good music. - John at AKR

  7. I typed a lot, but this is hardly worth a wall of text. tl;dr: No one deserves compensation for having a reputation. That is the epitome of entitlement, hence the way I chose to quote your sentence. Copeland, and any other artist, clearly have the right to charge whatever they feel is right for them for a product, that does not mean that the people who are interested in the product do not have a right to their opinion of the price. I checked my purchases the past couple of years. Out of all the records I have purchased in 2014 and 2015, ONE out of approximately 50 releases came out to $30+ before shipping, and that is because it was an overseas release. This includes all 2xLP.

  9. I can't believe the hate on Beggars and Major/Minor. I like the early stuff, but to me they get consistently better as they experiment with their sound.

  15. It's really interesting to read some of these opinions. S/T should NOT be re-recorded. It's perfect as it is. This band has never really taken risks, in my opinion, other than that first album (an argument could be made for LP 2 as well, certainly). That's not necessarily bad. I've never expected more from them. FF have always been little more than good radio-friendly alt rock. Some of it really good, some of it really not so good (I'm looking at you, Sonic Highways). The mastering of this EP is terrible. One of the loudest I've ever heard. Check out the waveform of Savior Breath:

  18. SofO-077 is -SNOWING- "That Time I Sat in a Pile of Chocolate: A Retrospective". The 12" will collect: - all 4 songs from the FYEB 7" - the version of Pump Fake from that recording (first time on vinyl!) - both songs from the Pump Fake/Scherbatsky 7" - the 2 song tour tape (first time on vinyl!) - their song from the Ticklebutt Records tape comp (first time on vinyl!) -Big Weed from the 4-way split 7" on Slow Growth Records. The full shebang was even remastered by Lucky Lacquers! The artwork is pretty amazing too. First pressing will be 450 copies on black vinyl. Preorders will likely launch when I get tests, so now is the time to subscribe to this page and follow SofO on tumblr. Cooking up something special for the early birds.

  28. Last album was a huge risk. Putting out a conceptual album like that, and recording it in the way they did. Dave and the rest of them are always looking for new ways to push themselves, and make something new. This "break" will be the time they take to think of that. If you read the letters on their site, Dave talks about the notebook he was given, and how he is already coming up with ideas. I'm sure the next album will push the boundaries, and we'll see a whole new Foo. As far as the EP goes, I'm stoked to finally hear 7 Corners. The whole EP is solid, and it's mastered very well. It's cool to hear an old school Foo sound in a new way. All the dudes together making some meaningful songs, and releasing them for free; bitchin'. It's like the Sonic Highway b-sides, and bonus track us die hard fans have been waiting on for a long time. According to the mock up on the EU site, it looks like this is going to be a 12", but it could still be a 10". We shall wait and see.

  30. I couldn't disagree with this more. Alchemy was all kinds of experimentation (I love it, but it was never meant to be a cohesive sound), and Vheissu shows a ton of growing pains. I love songs on that record, but I hate it as an album. They finally started to settle into their own sound with Beggars, and Major/Minor was the ultimate realization of that sound. I think that last album is absolutely perfect, and it's my favorite Thrice record. I hope they keep pushing, and showing us who Thrice is, not what scene they belong in.

  31. What started out as a simple way for me to keep track of what I have listened to myself kind of got out of control and this happened. It is by no means meant to be a replacement for the OP (and I have a rough list of pg. 34-current for mrewest if he wants it). I started to organize it with you guys in mind, so hopefully everyone can get something from it. The genre tabs are empty because I'm bad at that, and that may be a project for another very cold weekend. I also took it upon myself to add MovMou, Appleseed Cast, and Sigur Ros. Made no sense they were excluded but Athletics are on the list, especially considering the amount of people MovMou has converted. Enjoy. It's public and everyone can comment.

Here's the awesome haul I received: -Fat Music Vol. 7 (Colored Edition!) -Fake Problems/Gaslight Anthem Split -Xtra Mile split series 7" featuring Frank Turner -Five By Five "Fire" 7" (awesome Hendrix cover) A bunch of assorted CD's, CD booklets, koozies, and other goodies (including a legit copy of the original Flight Simulator!) And last but not least: Two awesome Rick and Morty posters!! I did some quick VC sleuthing and I figured out my SS was Tellallyourfriends!! Thank you so, so much!!!

    London

I lived in London for a few years. Here are some of my favorite things to do. -DRINK anywhere and everywhere. My favorite spot is on halloway rd. punk rocker bar called BIG RED. all the bartenders look like pin up girls and all the customers are covered in tattoos. drinks are cheap and room temp. enjoy! The Crow Bar in Soho is also good, but very tiny. -LIVE MUSIC in some amazing clubs around the city. Old Blue Last, The Barfly, Round House, Academy, etc etc etc. Maybe check out the website TIME OUT to see whats popping in the night life. But don't be surprised if all this shit going down in Paris has put a damper on the nightlife. -CULTURE is cool too. Check out the many free museums and art galleries. Some of my favorites are The Imperial War Museum, The Tate (modern or brit), and if its still there The Saachi Gallery is one of the coolest things I have ever seen in my life. But I heard its now on display in Britton Beach. (all the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in the world were in London museums.) other than that its basic tourist stuff. Take pics and get tattoos and buy shit. have fun!

  35. so when can we expect a Robbin' The Hood repress?as far as limited/colored vinyl i could careless about it if given a choice i would choose 180g black vinyl every time & i could careless how limited something is.all i care for is the art work to be as close to the original pressing & the sound quality of the vinyl itself.
