  1. For a board that complains about vinyl prices all the time, I find it hysterical that's so many of you want to drop $400 on an impractical box set for songs that you have never heard before. And people thought record store day was a gimmick cash grab.

  2. I was able to adopt 6 real life gorillas from the WWF for the same price of the boxset. https://gifts.worldwildlife.org/gift-center/gifts/Species-Adoptions/Gorilla?sc=AWY1200WCGBE&gclid=CjwKEAjwh9PGBRCfso2n3ODgvUcSJAAhpW5o9l63MfSLaCrObpivtC-jyAfCYCrPJuVY1hbJKQgG_xoC7MLw_wcB

  3. Hi VCers - vinyl just showed up today. We'll be working as fast as possible to get pre-orders out the door and on your doorstep. There's only two of us, but we aim to have everyone's pre-order shipped by March 31st at the latest. Expect an email with tracking info when that happens. Thanks so much for the support! This is by far the most pre-orders we've ever received, so we're pumped and ready to get it in your hands!

  4. Seriously, who the fuck cares if he's listened to the "definitive" albums or not? The dude can listen to what ever the fuck he wants to listen to, and none you have any say in his life. None. Get the fuck over yourselves. I've seen some pretty stupid things that people come on here to fight about or rag on someone for, but this is the most ridiculous of them all.

  7. Not sure who "we" is, but I've always preferred individual threads. The preorder thread was more so people could get notifications when there is a new post, but too many people converse in there.

  10. As a fan of the first three albums and someone who finds everything after (barring Afterman as I've not truly heard the whole set of albums) pretty trite, I would implore Battra to do himself the service of hearing them in chronological order at some point in his life. However, everyone meeting all of his explanations for why he doesn't plan to do that anytime soon, given his busy schedule, with instructions for life on how to fit these albums in between all of his other tasks is truly astonishing. You guys are nuts. I'm already nuts having a record collection the size that I have with as many different systems of playback in multiple rooms as I have but I think its insane to insinuate to this poster that he's not doing his own life right by not cutting time out of his packed schedule to hear these albums. I'm sure the curiosity will catch up with him eventually and he'll probably seek them out but this level of sass toward him is out of line. I get that people are trying to express their fealty to those bodies of work by emphasizing how much he is missing out and all but this looks like a bunch of sheltered derelicts screaming at the guy with the life to live about how he's not living up to his listening potential for one very specific band. Either way, carry on. I'll finish up somewhat on topic by saying, "I hope there's a black version at some point."

  12. I don't know what your life is like, but mine contains a 40 hour work week, a 20 hour avocation week, my six year old daughter, my wife, I read about 5 books a month, follow the St. Louis Blues, try to get in a little bit of video game time (I have a stack of games that goes back to 1998 on a myriad of systems), pretend that I'm still following Arsenal, spend some time with my wife, cook 5-7 nights a week, clean daily, try to have somewhat of a social life, next week my daughter's soccer team starts back up, etc. Why this is sticking to some your guys' ribs, well, frankly I don't get it. But you go. But as stated earlier, time is a very valuable currency for me.

  13. Guys, he listens to 7 new albums a week. He doesn't have time for that shit. Even though one new album a day really isn't that much considering how stacked some release weeks are. I'd love to see this dude tackle a daunting video game backlog.

    MAN ADVICE v2.0

So I connected with someone on Bumble this week and we met for coffee yesterday. It went really well! No awkwardness in our conversation and she seems really nice. Plus she's really cute and tall. I asked her to come with me to a record fair on Sunday and she said yes!

  16. This thread is very entertaining. Thank you. My biggest issue with the boxset is the usability of it. No doubt most Gorillaz fans will also purchase the standard or deluxe to have a non-annoying listening experience. The box ends up feeling like more of a novelty and collector's item than an actual DELUXE version. Hope most of the signed ones went to real Gorillaz fans so they can enjoy it.

The record store in my town is going down from 2 locations to 1 so they're doing 50% off everything at the closing location this weekend. It was 30% percent all week so it was sort of picked over, but I managed to find some good stuff. Went from some high price tag soundtracks I've been watching for awhile. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Price - 2xLP Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 - 2xLP Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 - 2xLP Mikey Erg - Tentative Decisions LP Garden State LP- Numbered 1693/3000 She & Him - Christmas Party LP Phoenix w/ Bill Murray 7" The Monster - Bluray (w/ Slip Cover) The Curse of Chucky - Bluyray (w/ Slip Cover) Disney's Monkey Kingdom (w/ Slip Cover) Came to $127 after tax. Not a bad haul!

  20. Because I'm sure they're handling this release the same in 2017 in the middle of the vinyl craze as they did 12 years ago.

  21. Seriously. If you can't think of better things to do with $400 you've got a pretty charmed life. Even if you're going to blow it on records, you could pick up some truly great punk singles that aren't just manufactured cash grabs with artificial scarcity like this thing is.

  22. Alright, I'm an idiot. I just reread the description and the part about the "black heavyweight" was reading to me like 180 gram record when they were really talking about the shirt. Only records on my mind. This was confirmed by Folkvangr. I need more coffee. Anyway, it grew on me, so ordered!

  25. I don't really give a fuck one way or another if you listen to them or not, but I haven't listened to a full album of theirs since Good Apollo, and the only album I listen to anymore with any sort of regularity is the first album. Time Consumer would be my go-to if you were only going to listen to one song. Features Dr. Know from Bad Brains on guitar.

  26. It's a bigger hastle to refund people than to just hold your orders until 4/29. That's probably what they will do.

  29. This topic is giving me such a woody. I collected fiercely in the 1990s, in retrospect the best time possible since everybody was dumping LPs. I'd spend $100 or $200 at Jerry's in Pittsburgh or the various stores in Chicago, DC, the East Village, Vancouver, London, San Francisco ... and I'd come away with more LPs than I could carry. Sometimes I had to find a UPS drop-off before I got back on a plane. (There were no UPS Stores back then.) The first of two kids arrived in 1999 and they took most of my time, so I've barely bought any vinyl in the last 15 years. But for her 17th birthday last year the older one got an RP-1 she can take to college ("university" for those outside the US), along with 50 or 60 duplicates from my stash. Seriously, nobody should leave home without Blood on the Tracks and Astral Weeks (green label, natch) at the very least. I've bought a few things here and there when I find nice stuff for less than $25 or even less than $20 per disk. (Seriously? $25 for a single LP? WTH?!) I'm lucky enough to work from home, and we have a semi-finished attic, so the first shot is the view from my desk, and once or twice a day I climb into the chair to listen to one side as a break. Rock and pop is on the left; jazz, blues, and a small batch of classical live on the right. We old guys have a lot of the gems, like the original Art Pepper on the rack to the left above the 'table. Warms my heart that so many youngsters are keeping vinyl alive. https://imgur.com/08cq7ZW https://imgur.com/SCXQ6Kj https://imgur.com/VmTbgSk By the way, the plural of vinyl is "vinyl." You no more pick up "vinyl" (with an s) than you pick up "fishes" at the market for dinner. Stop me gnashing my teeth. Please. Be good, kids. Enjoy what you've got. These are good times for music, if for little else. If anybody cares: VPI Aries I with Lyra Helikon cartridge, Rowland Capri preamp, Rowland 102 amp (for summer), Mac Mini file server with Schiit Modi Multibit DAC and two hard drives (one a mirror of the other, backed up every day at 4AM), Quicksilver Audio Silver Sixty mono amps with stock EL-34s (for the cool months), Scansonic 2.5 speakers, Sunfire sub, DIY DH Labs cabling throughout. CDs in the background are all ripped to the server now, along with about 2000 live shows by various groups, especially the Grateful Dead. Anybody want the little silver disks?

  31. No worries, I preordered mine from Amazon. Right now it's listed at $21.84. It's been fluctuating a bit. Assuming both Amazon and his personal store use media mail, I think it would be a little cheaper to order from him directly. But I'm also in Canada so I had to pay international shipping. I think my total was around $30 USD. Glad to see 6lack get some love here, though! I wasn't sure if this was a VC thing or not.

  32. So... cool that they finally announced this, but... wtf? So both Invada and Lakeshore are essentially just releasing new variants, but Invada's come packaged together? I don't even see a picture of the "box" that would house both of them. And I really think the colorway they chose for the box is pretty ugly. I like this Lakeshore one:

    Iron Maiden Reissues!

I seem to remember that being the case yeah. For those outside the UK, Amazon UK may be the best option depending on how the pound goes once Article 50 (to begin the Brexit process) is triggered next week. I'm by no means a financial expert but you may find that these work out cheaper or about the same as US copies depending on how things go. May be something to keep an eye on...

  37. HERE is where I picked mine up. Halo of Flies Distro shop. This was my first go round with Cult of Occult. Split EPs, well, I see those a lot, we all do right? Split LPs though, that was nice. Grim Van Doom...I reviewed their last album....I forget the name...Grim Love I think? That's why I got this one. They're apparently not on WOOAARGH!! anymore.

  39. Seems to be the same but it's probably a good thing because there's only one copy of it on discogs and its selling for £60, whereas this new one for the April 7th 2017 is only £17.99. Definitely wouldn't go about replacing any of your originals in favour of this as it is a straight up re-issue but its good for anyone who's late to the party. Burning Shed are great for affordable quality pressing's I'm hard pushed to think of many UK labels putting out double gatefold LPs on coloured wax for under £20 before shipping. Price point for that sort of thing is normally £24.99+ over here these days with the bubble being where it is. I just wish I was into more prog so I could chuck them more money.

  40. Very excited for this. The 3 singles so far have been killer! Saw them live at Falls Festival in Lorne over New Year's. They put on a great show and played a new song which back then sounded amazing and I knew this album was going to be great!

  44. What about Carissa's Wierd - Songs About Leaving? I can't imagine anyone listening to that album without feeling bummed the fuck out. Anyways, just listened to the new Sorority Noise. Liked it but didn't love it. Definitely the best thing they've done and I'll be revisiting it. I'd rather we get more Old Gray than SN. Slowburn was next level.
